[PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is [ITS POSSIBLE GUYS!!!] 8/14/11

Re: [PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is not possible, yet. Read on...

im dying without my Root :( going to sprint tomorrow and telling them my sound is ****ed up.. I even turned on the TTY settings for the hearing aid, and had someone who uses hearing aids check it out and they said they couldnt tell the difference.. I find myself saying "What?" alot when im on the phone. Hopefully they'll replace it and i'll be lucky to get one with Froyo yet and not Gingerbread.. Coming from the LG Optimus Rooted and not being able to Root my Evo really sucks

I am on my 2nd replacement since their update. Both times I told them I was cancelling service and they offer to send me a non-GB EVO. Both times they have failed. They have no more froyo based EVO's to give out. You can try the store and walking in but I did that as well with no luck....

Since the Sensation has S-OFF now the Evo 3D is to follow. Looks like agrabren is almost ready to take on the OG Evo. Here is his tweet on Twitter

Drat! I got a replacement Evo today due to a hardware problem with the USB port, and was hoping to run a Titanium restore to bring things back. No root on GB = Manual updates. :(

... and I lost all my progress on Angry Birds!!!

So pleased to be reading all these mentions of achieving root on our OG Evos! Hope someone figures it out soon. I'm MORE than happy to throw some $ their way...

Thanks, jondevere, that helps. I called asurion yesterday, guy said he had no access or ability to determine the particular evo handset that I'd be getting or its OS version.
I told him I would rather have my broken evo than a GB one, he suggested bringing up my problem with their technical support once I get the new handset from them. I said I don't think they will be able to revert a GB evo to Froyo.
Then I asked if I could try the service and just return the new handset if it's a GB, and he said no, I would be charged for it if I didn't return the broken one.
So, I canceled the process, and I'll wait till GB is rooted, or sixty days, whichever comes first. (Asurion has a sixty day limit for filing a claim from date of damage).
Thanks again, and thanked.

Glad to help. Yea I just humor them and roll my eyes. Sprint sends replacement devices like its water.

Just to give everyone more info he also tweeted that "fre3vo temp-rooted a slew of devices." However, he didn't say which devices. So hopefully everyone waiting on root or at least temp-root might not be waiting much longer.

It will certainly make buying an Evo Shift on eBay much, much easier! My retired mother wants her partially broken Blackberry Curve replaced with something new and fast, and I've been holding off buying a Shift until I can get one that's rootable to put CM7 on it. Tech support will inevitably fall on me, so I want the device to be running something I can conveniently support. :)

We are in the same boat. If I knew this were the case I would have just bought an external battery charger until Evo on GB was rootable. I should really check the boards more often.

..the silver lining is I saved my backup files to the cloud. Did you? Eventually I will have my Angry Birds progress back!

I'm hopeful this gets cracked soon - I signed up for Sprint on June 29th, and I'd like to stick with my Evo, but it there is no root on 2.3.3 by the 28th, I'm planning to swap it for another phone.

You can always eBay it and buy a device already rooted or still on 2.2. You'll get a good price for a very new Evo, and with all the Squaretrade coupon codes available, you can get a year's warranty + accidental damage for around $40.

Or get the E3D, it looks like that's going to be perma-root + s-OFF soon.
