The first contains a boot loader. It is recommended to flash that package unless you already have the 4.0.4 bootloader

So thats the "JellyBean" bootloader that I have been reading about that 'should' be flashed prior to a JB rom to hopefully prevent problems?

that's the jb bootloader. i'll add it to the op for peeps who need it :)

so - basically, if you rooted 4.04 you have the fc radios - and if you are going to flash and stay on jb, you can then flash the jb bootlaoder in recovery - but dont flash the jb bootloader if you're working with ics roms bc they may not play nice together.

then again, there's really no need to be on ics roms :)

Sorry, noob question. When do you flash the bootloader? The OP makes the process sound scary and the steps seem to only address the radios.
Do I follow the steps like I would to flash a ROM? Does it get flashed with a ROM or at anytime? Does it make a difference if I don't flash it? I flashed the leaked 4.0.4 back in May so I should have the radios.

Are you running ics or jb? If ICS just flash the package as you would a ROM. If jb.... install the jb boot loader that zero posted and then the radios without boot loader package

Flashing a bootloader in recovery gets: md5 check to be safe, then clear cache and dalvim (optional), then flash zip: pretty much the same as a radio. Just make sure the file is complete (md5).

I would do it separate from a ROM flash just bc, but you can do it then flash a ROM if you wish.

What benefit is there if I am seeing no issues now?

None really. The ICS boot loader, at least 404, seems to work OK with jb. Maybe you might slightly faster boot times.

Aside from that, you could def wait until there are official or whatever boot loader and radios for jb before you update.

Great to have these all in one place, thank you very much.

Unfortunately this did not fix my horrendous 4g, I was really hoping not to have to exchange the phone. Hopefully it doesnt take 3 or 4 exchanges before I get one that doesnt drop service every 3 minutes
