Received Official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OTA this morning

Just got my update. I'm in Kansas. Totally loving Google Now and Voice Search.

I agree that the "trick" doesn't work. I did it probably more than 50 times yesterday and a few times this morning. I finally gave up on doing that. Then, after going for my morning run, I just hit the "Check Now" button a couple of times - without using the trick - and got my update.

I don't mean any offense by this, but thinking the "trick" works is more likely the result of committing the post hoc, ergo propter hoc fallacy. ("After this, therefore because of this.")

Just hang tight and JB should be yours soon.

honestly, if any of the tricks would actually have worked, it would work the first time and for all. and not on 150th time and just for some. I think it's just pure coincidence and it will come when it will come. I still don't have it and I have tried every trick many times and I am now just going to wait.

Got it in NJ once I was able to get Gsf to stop saying computing.

All I know is that I have been waiting all day yesterday and today for the update. I did the trick about 5-10 time just now and it worked. I don't care if it was the trick or just if the update finally happened to hit my phone. All I care about is that I am on jelly bean now!

BTW does this have new radios because it still takes forever to find and hold a signal.

Force stop GSF once. Clear Data and check for update... Most likely nothing. Go back to GSF and clear data but don't force stop. Check for update.

I am trying to determine if I am stock. This is the info on my Nexus.

Could someone tell me what to check if the above info is not enough? Thanks in advance.

That sucks. I kept trying with no results, read the steps that I mentioned and pow, it worked. I think none of this really works until you are in the queue, and it's just coincidence. Good luck

Does anyone remember from previous updates how many days it usually takes before an update is available to everyone? In other words, since mine still is telling me I'm up to date, I'm wondering how many days I might have to wait until it's there. A couple days? Over a week? I figure there has to be a point where it's just generally available to everyone.

Server capacity is limited. Of course, I really wish they would make it available via a computer download a la Apple and take (some of) the guessing out, but you can't have everything.

Server capacity is a lame excuse since they can solve that with drop in the bucket outlay.

This update is over WiFi only. So your logic does not make much sense. What's the difference between downloading it to a computer and installing it to the phone vs downloading it to the phone via WiFi and installing in place?

my 4.0.4. took 4 days to finally download. VZW says it's based on serial number. although I got mine on the first day, I must have a later built.

I just received the update. I decided to force close and clear GSF, cause checking for updates bottom alone wasn't getting the job done. I did it 3 times, third times a charm. I'm convinced that clearing the GSF, somehow does the trick, even though it took me 3 times.

Framework trick:

1. From your phone, head into Settings>Apps>All.
2. Search for Google Services Framework.
3. Once found, tap on it and choose “Force stop.”
4. Then choose “Clear data.”
5. Back out of Apps to your About page in Settings and check for the System update.

Must be on WI-FI and don't skip any steps every time you do it.

Doesn't matter where you live, it's out there and ready to go.

Steve

So after still not having the update I decided to give this a try. I did it about 5 times, once a minute, and nothing. I then decided to turn off mobile data FIRST, and then do these steps. BINGO!

Hopefully this helps someone out there because it worked for me. And for those that say this trick is a coincidence, I do not think so. There is no coincidence in trying to push it to your phone. If you want this update sooner than later, use this tactic.

Good luck.

It still gets fed from someone's servers, whether the user downloads it via wifi or mobile network.

I suspect another reason they get rolled out in waves is to ease the support related issues and phone calls that must follow an update. There are plenty of users who don't know anything about their phones, these forums, etc, and when they get an OTA and things change they don't understand or actually have real issues, they're going to call Verizon for support. This way instead of say a million (arbitrary number) updates hitting at once and those with issues all calling at the same time, they get to deal with it in waves and can provide better support without getting overloaded. Just my 2 cents :)

Nope. Didn't work. Its not a trick. Its nothing. What you're calling a trick is really just probability taken personally. If you jump up and down while pissing yourself and then check your phone for updates, I guarantee you it will work at some point too.

I disagree with you 100% and your analogy is childish. But to each their own.
