Regarding Dec. 9 no longer being the unofficial date

In a span of one hour, everyone's freaking out about this rumored delay. but as quickly as things can change, going from "Launch Date 12/9" to "Launch date is coming soon", it can change back just as quickly.

I have a strong feeling that this apparent hold up of the launch is due to the LTE issues reported yesterday. I'm sure Verizon will sort the issues out, and as soon as they do, they'll change the status back to "Launch Date 12/9" as long as the issues have been fixed before 12/9. If you were in Verizon's shoes and were dealing with the LTE issues, would you still keep that 12/9 launch date up? Of course not. and in the unlikely event that they can't fix the LTE network issues in time, the launch date will already have been taken down (which is what's happening now).

The phone will launch as soon as those LTE network issues are ironed out, which i'm confident will probably be some time today or tomorrow. and then we'll be seeing blog and twitter posts all over the internet that the phone is still going to launch on friday (fingers crossed)

i stated in the Pre-Orders/Stores that Confirm Availability thread that i spoke with my local vzw corporate store (greenville sc) and the rep i spoke with said that the date she was told was fri 12/9.. she took my info and said she'd call when she knew something for sure..

well , she just called and said that the date has been pushed back again and would call me again when more information was available..

Yes, but the one year started back on November 17th when it released in Europe. Just give us the phone. If it's an LTE issue, I'll be happy to use on 3G until they fix it.

Someone is not taking the news very well. I've sent a few angry tweets so I think it's out of my system. Hell, I've been waiting since July. What's a few more days at this point?

We all know Verizon sucks. Hopefully, in two years time there will be a suitable alternative to their company.

That's what I'm hoping for. Competition between companies is always good for the consumer IMO.

This whole situation , while a little frustrating; is not bothering me that much. I have the GSM version and, have been thinking about switching anyway. If this goes into January I might seriously consider it. T-mobile has an excellant small business plan that's better than what I got on Verizon now. Their coverage is good in my city also.

I was going to be predominantly on WiFi anyway (I have WiFi at home, at work, and in the gym).

Given the sudden change, this is my guess as well. Something with the RAZR's getting toasted made them do a double take to get that ironed out before a slew of 4G devices hit their network.

Nah, I'm guessing the software bug (i.e. Google Wallet) is the reason...
Remember, only people who come here are excited about this phone. I have yet to hear my sister, or dad (both casual Android users) mention this phone or ICS since VZW hasn't announced anything and there is nothing in the stores to indicate a better/newer device is on the horizon.

I would consider a slew of 4G devices being when a 4G iPhone drops. GNex unfortunately does not fall into that category, plus, VZW would gladly sell me a tBolt right now...

I wouldn't put it past Verizon to push the GN back until after Jan 15th so that people "renting" a phone can't exchange it for the GN.

very good point...

if it were an LTE issue, one would assume that every 4G phone in verizon's stock would be held back for now.

okay... so i'm back to two possibilities...

a) verizon got upset by the leaking of the release date and are doing this to get people to stop calling stores and the such but still plan on dropping it in a silent release friday morning...

b) verizon hates us all.

I have been with Verizon since my first cell phone in 2000, but I'd love for Sprint and AT&T to really challenge Verizon on network coverage. Once that playing field is leveled, then you're left to compete on pricing and devices - that's when we, the consumer, win.
AT&T is trying, but the US Government is preventing it.

Well the only thing I have to say is -- if they are holding the Nexus back because of network issues -- they damn well better not release anything else in the next couple days either. Any new devices could cause strain on their dang network, if that's the case.

Here I am with a Thunderbolt on a 1 yr contract... and I'll be able to get a new device in January... and now I see the Nexus is going through the same stuff I saw with the Thunderbolt

Maybe I should wait for a device that doesn't have delays from VZW!!!

I talked to my local Verizon store about an hour ago and they said they received word this morning that it is being delayed. I was expecting them to play dumb when inquired about the Nexus (like usual) but they instead gave me this grim news. I hope this is not true. From everything I have been seeing and reading it really seemed like it was going to be released this weekend.

There are plenty of reasons. Their LTE networks is having major problems. They're releasing another Droid phone. They may not have sold enough RAZRs yet. It's not very likely that there's some "bug" holding the phone back. This was ready to be released a month ago.

I know the many possible scenarios, I didn't ask for any other reason than the attitude of your first reply flat out dissed this guess guy who just offered his opinion on a possible scenario. Acting like you knew different, without offering any follow up, when the fact is no one in here at the moment has any clue what happened, just yet.

They may be anticipating, though, that the Galaxy Nexus is going to move a significantly larger number of devices than all the other 4G phones they currently have combined considering that they are likely aware that many people are waiting specifically for the Galaxy Nexus.

so, how long have you nerds been waiting for this phone. i'm new to android, so this is amazing to watch. it's as if it was announced 2 yrs ago or something. seriously, how long has this wait been going on?

I'd love for AT&T to be better in my area - I'd switch to them in a heartbeat. Then I could watch U-Verse on my phone. :D

More on topic, if people are tying this delay into the RAZR sim card/LTE problem, why does this seem to be exclusive to Motorola devices on LTE (or am I missing something). Is the Rezound, or T-Bolt, etc. experiencing the same outage?
