Regarding Dec. 9 no longer being the unofficial date

I am a tester for a major Satellite TV provider and I can assure you that last minute bugs pop up all the time. Products releases and software updates get delayed literally hours before being shipped, pushed or sold. This is all part of the reason that VZW did not set a release date. People like to freak out in a fit of entitlement around here but there are people at VZW much smarter than anyone who posts here.

Yes, last minute bugs pop up. HOWEVER, there is a review for a launch that must be met before you approve the release to the channels. It's reasonable to assume that approval was provided, as phones where shipped. If there was approval, then there was acceptance in it's current state.

Something other than a bug caused this delay.

I don't know what the issue is but I doubt its to enhance the sales of other Verizon phones. If that's the case it will never be released....oh wait the Droid 4 now the razr 2 here comes the rezound 2 etc etc.

I like to think its trying to get ICS stable enough on the vzw network before its released. The fact we learned of this phone so early isn't helping either.

However playing devils advocate with myself maybe Verizon is trying to psuh other phones more and the the reason the got the nexus exclusively is to prevent other carriers from having it. Maybe the damn thing is just buggy....honeycomb was pretty bad at one point. I don't think anyone of us will really know the honest reason for this delay.

I can tell you its getting pretty damn annoying even for those of us that are patiently waiting. I bought the game skyrim thinking a 300+ hour video game would hold me over but somehow its not.

Then again, Verizon never announced anything, did they??? So this firestorm of speculation and anxiety is the doing of Samsung and Google...

Let's get this straight. They DID announce the phone. What they did not announce was the release date.

Really people? All these conspiracy theories?

How does it not make the most sense that Verizon saw a bunch of devices have issues with 4G last night, they don't know why, so instead of launching the new flagship device they're going to solve the 4G issue first? After all, we see just amongst the few people on this thread that several devices are having 4G issues. That is a logical, common sense approach in my opinion.

But, then again that's just me bringing logic to an emotion fight, so....

The problem with your logic is it isnt the verizon way.... buggy not completely working on it's network phones, and filled with problems is the teh Verizon way (IE, Bionic, Thunderbolt, Revolution, Facinate)

NO phone is ever coming out perfect, or even on a supported network. If it is 4G problems, fine fix them, but don't hold the phone up especially when over half the US still does not have 4G....

I hope you're right, but this delay info is still very current. There is a possibility that the rep hasn't heard it yet.

Absolutely that's possible. I'm generally a positive guy so I'm gonna hold out hope for a little longer. Even corporate reps with major accounts still don't get told a ton of secrets.. The real juicy info comes when they come on-site to do a roadmap. Oh the things I could leak after that..haha.

i would fully believe that... except that they are still selling other 4G devices, and as of now still plan on selling the DROID 4, a 4G device, starting tomorrow.

if they really had major concerns over 4G, they'd at least put a stop to the DROID 4 as well... and probably every 4G phone.

which says to me that they're probably still releasing it on the 9th... they haven't said anything, after all... and that the equipment site just jumped the gun putting the release date online, and corrected their error.

The more and more this crap goes on, the more getting a GSM GOOGLE Galaxy Nexus looks sweeter. This is no longer a Nexus in my eyes, its VERIZON's Galaxy Nexus. A$$HOLES.... :-\

I read this whole thread and I can tell you this: It seems as if Phil IS stealing the credit and this makes both of you look like crap.

Actually, I think all of this bickering about the thread being locked blah blah blah is making everyone involved in the back and forth look idiotic.

It's a messageboard. Move on.

Here's what I heard...

My cat regularly poops in the bushes outside my local VZW store. He heard from another cat there, that knows the manager, that it was due to another OTA update that wouldn't be ready by Friday. So they have to hold it until the OTA update will be ready, and then sell it.

Now, my cat said that this other cat is feral, but he's never lied to him before.

I was able to pre-order one yesterday and the rep said it should be in store for me to pick Thursday or Friday. So here is to hopping he was right!

I agree with you, and before someone responds with "but they are still selling rezounds etc"..

Comparing them selling you a phone thats already out, to that of first week sales from a launch.. is more then just a stretch.

Use some common sense.. quite obviously a launch will have way more impact on the 4g network then them letting people continue to buy an already released phone.

OK. Here's where things stand now so much as I know ...

  • The LTE hiccup isn't the reason for any delay.
  • As of right now, there is no delay because there's no official date. The Dec. 9 that started popping up on the inventory screens shouldn't have been there because there's been no official date announcement. So it's no longer there.
  • Friday is still possible. And you know what? That's not crazy since we know they're in stores. We know accessories are in stores.

At this point, I recommend a little chillaxin' :p

okay... then explain why the DROID 4, a 4G device with verizon's beloved DROID label... which, btw, most people who aren't nerds like us think all android phones are droids, so it's a big phone... is still scheduled to be released tomorrow.

Imagine the how the press would have their way with Verizon if they got word that Verizon was "Ceasing the Sale of all 4G LTE devices in order to Repair their Network Difficulties."

Of course they aren't going to stop selling whats already released.

There's no bad press when you delay the release of a device that hasn't been slated for release yet.

My question is why has there not been an official date announcement? If they are in stores and ready to go, why not announce it?

The Droid 4 hasn't been released or slated for release either, AFAIK.

They don't want to cannibalize sales of their other, preferred phones. At this point I can honestly see the phone launching silently with no adds of any kind until after January 1.
