Before doing any of this, I recommend doing a nandroid backup just incase. After these modifications, first bootup might take a few minutes so be patient.

Here is a FILE I cooked using kitchen. The boot logo has been changed to a blue 3d spinning honeybee.
It also has the battery icon modified to show the percent value.

I modified the notification bar to be black using the sense style. The clock is by default black. I had to change it to white, or else you would not be able to see it with a black notification bar. This FILE needs to be pushed via adb to "/system/framework/". The result looks something like this when both mods are installed.

Notification Bar Mod, battery, and boot logo: Download (install via recovery)
White Clock Mod: Download (push with adb to "/system/framework/")

I made a theme using kitchen as well. But I notice the carrier background part and the pull-down bar are bigger than before, limiting the available space for notifications. You know how to edit the sizes to make them smaller to what they were originally for our phones?

There does seem to be a little less space. Maybe try decreasing the font sizes in kitchen? The way it is currently is ok for me, as I usually only get a couple notifications at once anyway. (the screenshot shows 3). The footer and header needs to be decreased a few pixels in my opinion, but I have no clue how to do it.

Yeah I don't see any options for decreasing the sizes. I think because it's optimized for higher resolution phones. But I just left the notification part untouched so it's normal size. Other than that mine looks just like yours, except for the gray normal size "ongoing" bar and a gingerbread footer. Header and footer are all I'd like to decrease in size.

I just modified the notification and left the other stuff alone. I like it alot better. (I would like it black like the rest of the stuff, but why mess with it if the sizes get thrown off?)Here they are side by side so you can compare.

Here is the cooked file if you want to use it.

thanks for the pic. I guess in the end all we're after is the color of the notification bar. i'll probably do the same as you. But i used ubunu font so i'll have to cook later

Just wanted to say thanks! I installed last night and love the space available. charging seems to take longer but that is fine. any tips for me? I will read through this thread later!

I ended up removing the activate app and the stock email app after I installed this ROM. Both are backed up though just in case.

You can use the version 010 kernel. Charging problem fixed and it's a rock for me.

Is this problem only on 2.2 roms? Or did it exist on 2.3? I haven't used aosp since 3/27 so I can't remember if it charged slow like it does on these 2.2 Xionia 008 kernel roms. I can't even recall what kernel aosp ran on. I'm assuming xionia 005.

So I went ahead and installed setcpu, I have no clue what settings to use as I have read so many different people doing different things... I would just like to save battery life while the screen is off. I do not understand the whole process of the app, so can others please share their optimus V setcpu settings please?

Thanks

This rom will stay on 005 as it's quite stable, but I am starting testing on 2.0 with the v010 kernel. Which will likely be the future of the 2.0 rom. 1.3.3 is pretty much as tuned as it can get.

I just need to get Extra Virgin squared away and then 2.0/010 will start. I want this to stay on 005 just because we know it is a good stable rom.

As for overclock, I usually run 768-786 whatever it is in that area on performance, but listening to streaming music and/or GPS gets pretty hot. So I'm probably going back to on demand. It may be a tad slower, maybe a bit worse on battery, but it's nicer overall.

Update: both of the other roms have been updated.
Minor changes that effect only 1 model of 1.3.3 roms are denoted with a letter, more on this is found on the Extra Virgin thread.

I'm using Aphrodite 2.0 and overclock at 768 mhz and I get a lot of overheating warnings using Audiogalaxy. I also have a silicone case on my phone but I don't think that's really keeping much heat in. I think On Demand is definitely the way to go.

Hello Leslie,

I have GB 2.3 on my phone and it seems to run very well except for no MMS and BT. My battery life is fantastic and I overclock to 806 with no issues. If I was to return to Froyo would it be worth it using the Roms and Kernals you talk about? I do want MMS but I can wait and see if it gets fixed. How do compair them? I have aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.1 or 2 / CM7 (Gingerbread) , the one that came with Zeam Launcher (love it) and the black menu on top with the little icons. Whats the goal of tweaking Froyo if the performance is slower then Gingerbread?

The performance increase, is over-rated.
The whole idea that it is faster is based on a synthetic benchmark. In real world use the difference between GB (which are all tweaked) and a tweaked Froyo is almost nothing. It's a bit unfair to compare stock vs tweaked.

If you haven't played with a good Froyo rom, then maybe you should, otherwise how do you know GB is any better? In my opinion the only reason for GB at the moment is Cyanogen, and much of that is easily replicated in Froyo, without the drawbacks.

I did try a couple of Froyo roms last month and they were tweaked but for some reason the GB rom seems to run smother and snappier. Could be my imagination I guess. I did run 3 benchs, Linpack, Quadrant and Neocore and they all seem to give a better mark with GB. I did get a much better FPS score but CPU score was only a little better.

Regardless, can you direct me to that rom your speaking about that's as close to GB as possible? Any Rom with the black top menu and Cyanogen? I can add the overclocker and launcher myself. I'd love to get MMS back. Your recommendation?

Thanks
Tony

There isn't a specific rom that is close, just find one with a similar taskbar, and then add Zeam and find a similar taskbar.

seems I am having gps issues with this rom. it drags along and just keeps losing gps signal. I ran it side by side with a unrooted v and that phone rang fine. any ideas? I am using Google navigation
thanks
