[Review] Seidio Innocase Active Limited Edition

I ordered this case this past Tuesday and got it Thursday (just in time to activate my Evo on Friday - yesterday) and I love the case! It has a nice feel and it keeps the phone looking 'clean'

The only issue I have with it is the headphone jack hole isn't big enough. I have a RCA to minijack cable in my car, and my home surround sound system so I can listen to internet radio and I found that when I try to plug the cable into the phone it will not fit.

I have to make the hole a little bigger on the case, but other than that I love this case! I just don't think I'll have luck doing the Palm Touchstone mod and getting the phone to charge with this case on it lol

I had this problem too, with a radioshack cable. I just went back and replaced it with a skinner one that fit.

Buying a thinner cable for my home stereo is no problem.. but for my car that is a different story. When I installed my old Alpine XM system it has a fm modulator with RCA input and I'd have to rip the interior out of my Grand Cherokee to get to the cable and swap it out (everything is hidden except the display and I have the cable coming out of the center console where the e-brake is)

I'll have to figure something out. I mean.. I know how to open the hole up on the case without it looking like a hack job but I know what you are saying about not cutting the case.

pingppong - just curious - do you use any kind of screen protector? not sure if it's necessary - but the static cling seidio one that caggi reviewed looks interesting.

>anti-fingerprint one with matte finish

do you have a recommendation for one of these that's static cling?

I know for a fact that the SGP Steinheil line is awesome. I've felt the anti-fingerprint protector on a friend's iPhone and it just feels so great. Seidio's website had listed an anti-glare/fingerprint protector before, but it seems to have been removed. I'd love to try the Seidio out to see if there's a difference.

OK got my Active case yesterday, replacing the Best Buy knockoff which I was forced to put my own felt into, and while I love the overall feel of the case, I'm debating emailing Seidio for a refund.

The Power button is almost impossible to press. I have to press so hard on the case that I feel I will be breaking the phone.. I even have to use 2 hands! I figured out why and might try modifing it myself to correct:

Under the Seidio's rubber case is an indention.. however my powerbutton does NOT rise up into that indention very much, perhaps half a milimeter. Combine that 'hole' , with the rubber's natural shock absorbtion, and you actually have a point in the case that's HARDER to press into than anywhere else on the body!

The volume buttons do not have this issue, I presume because they stick out more than the powerbutton does.

Has anyone else felt that the powerbutton press is unncessarily difficult?
Has anyone tried putting something under the rubber at that point to see if it makes it easier? I was thinking a tiny square of felt to stick into that 'hole' on the underside.. that should make it much easier to press I believe.

Lastly.. and this doesn't affect the use of the case, but WHY did they put a cutout on the back below the powerbutton?? The hole seems to give access to the slot where you open up the back of the unit.. but since you cannot do so with the case on, it kind of defeats the purpose...this alone makes me think they designed the case without one physically in hand, and thus contributed to the power button issue.

You're right about the power button being hard to press, but that's hardly enough reason for me to stop using the case. I'm loving everything else about this case.

Yea i've been wondering what that cutout is too. Maybe you can hook a keychain there or something.

New non-"Limited Edition" redesign up on Seidio's website!

that looks pretty nice. amazon also has 3 color ones up, red, blue and green.

I manged to 'fix' my power button, by placing a teeny tiny folded piece of napkin (It's about half a mm thick :p ) under the rubber and above the power button.. works perfectly now.

The hardest part was getting enough napkin to make a difference while pressing the button vs too much that bulges the case up.. took me about an hour of fiddling.. now I have to find a more 'permanent' solution.

Of all those cases I want the RED one!!

Debating on whether to Buy red and return black (they have 180 day return policy!) or see if I can convince them to sell just the back part separately.

Thats not the active case is it? Thats not anything like the limited edition one. Did they totally change the design?

It seems the "Active" case is one made of 2 parts.. rubber and skeleton. And the standard active is a solid piece on the back. Limited edition is the "X" style.

Which design do you like better ?

Seidio

i like the Original Active Limited Edition Black on Black "X" Exoskeleton one that i bought best. it is holding up very well and doing its job protecting my EVO! you need to keep making these for all future phones that come out. IMO this case is the best engineered, best design i have ever seen. tell the team GREAT job on this one and THANKS!

not sure if the name for a case is already taken but you guys should call that case the "X" or "Exoskeleton".

save the colors for the kids! give me Black on Black! you can never go wrong with black!
