It's the kernel from clean rom. I read that boot.img is the file I need to flash it.

Okay if it's just the kernel then you need to make a zip with the anykernel method to flash the kernel into the boot.img.
boot.img is actually two parts ramdisk and kernel(also known as zImage)when put together they make a boot.img. There's no commands to flash just a kernel(none im aware of).If your wanting to flash back to the boot.img that came with this rom then it's very easy.
Open the cleanrom.zip,pull the boot.img out of the zip and into the sdk/tools folder then do as i stated above to flash it with fastboot. If all else fails post what you have kernel/boot.img and the files from the system/lib/modules folder too. Ill make a zip to flash it.

ok i just did what you told me and it went through with no error. So how do i know if it really flashed?

As long as it goes throught without error,everything should be good now the way to check is go to "settings>about phone>kernel version

It should state the name and kernel version like
2.6.35.14+

that's just made up but should look something like that. That's the only way to really tell is to look there and compare to what it use to look like.

If i remember right off the top of my head that should be the most recent kernel from htc sorry can't double check as i don't have a 3D.Someone else runnin this rom should look and post there's so we can compare.

That is the correct kernel version. You are on the kernel that comes with 2.3 SP1.

Out of curiosity why didn't you just flash 2.3 SP1?

Just speaking from stuff i know but sometimes reflashing a rom over the top can create more problems then it's worth.This is mainly a issue with sense rom especially roms that flash files to data/app.

i did but since i rooted the htc way i thought the kernel would stay stock.
didn't they say kernal stays stock through htc method?

That's the only way i know to use fastboot to flash a .img is to have the file in the sdk/tools folder. Havung it on the sdcard mean you would need extra commands to copy the boot.img from the sdcard onto the phone.
Just want to double check it is a boot.img,and not a kernel or zImage right if it's one of them two then you will have to use a zip to flash.

Whooops... Great catch on that one. I told him to put in root of SDCard! lol

It would have. You did the correct steps. Anyone on hboot 1.5 and s-on needs to flash the kernel this way or it just gets ignored...

If you want to tell if its the correct kernel, open es file explorer and then navigate to /device/data and at the very bottom there should be a flie called 'zipalignlog' If you see that then you are goldden!

Currenlty the kernel I am using and the stock kernel both have the strings. This method wouldn't really tell you anything. Just check for zipalign log, lol

Its not a compile kernel more like a modified ramdisk. No source for latest kernel yet

never mind had to enable root explorer and zipalign.log is there.

You have to allow root permissions. In ES file explorer -> Settings -> Root Permissions

I think that this is far and away the best ROM for the EVO 3D out there. I have tried all of the custom ROMs out on XDA but I keep coming back to CleanROM!!

And the support from Scott is second to none!!

I've only used one other 3D ROM, but I've used 3-4 different ones on my EVO4G. CleanROM is truly a great ROM and like ChadH42 said, the support is second to none. (actually better then all in my book).
