[ROM] Bonsai4All v2.0.1

Still trying to work out a couple of issues. Pandora will not run being one. But that's a minor problem. The major issue is my volume would suddenly become very low and i'd hve to reboot to return it to normal.

That happened to me in Truly Epic ROM, also.

anyone having trouble running pandora radio? kept on having to force close due to app not responding.

Did the same with me after installing this ROM without wiping my Epic first (instructions say NOT to). Just black screen, and if I touch anything, force close message.

So I deleted, re-installed Pandora. Works great now. I had similar problems with the Email program, until I deleted the data, from the Settings-Applications screen. Probably is something to do with the Bonsai install reinstalling all the apps and data, which is WAY COOL, by the way.

I posted this on the xda-developers page as well, hoping for some answers:
Hello all, I have a question about some of the patches/extras listed in the 1st post.

I'm currently running Bonsai 1.1.4 (EXT4, CWM3). I d/l Bonsai 2.0 and am preparing for install, but saw in the Bonsai extras link that there were 2 zip files noted (Kernal patch Bonsai 1.1.4.2) & (EXT4 Filesystem Formatter & Tuner). Now, when I installed 1.1.4, I remember also installing the journal file w/this installation.

Do I need to install these files? If so, at what point do I include these steps in the directions listed in the installation link provided?

My current phone notes:
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9
Build No: Mammon_Bonsai4All_1.1.4
Firmware: 2.2.1

Thanks.

Response via xda developers website:
Both extras are included in the ROM. All you need to do is nandroid backup in cwm and flash 2.0. Dont wipe as it will backup and restore automatically.

I don't think so. Mammon (dev of Bonsai) would of probably stated you need these files. If I remember correctly those files are from those coming
from old RSF system and wanted to convert to EXT4/CWM3.x.x.x. when they were still setting things up to run duel filesystems. I think v2.0, Mammon went to strickly EXT4/CWM3.x.x.x only. If you did the journal mod previously and converted to EXT4/CWM3 then you should be okay.

I was running bonsai before 2.0. Although I was lazy and dl 2.0 directly to my phone and flashed it. I don't see a problem in that but you never know. :p

Pandora could be having their own instability issues. Wasn't running pandora until flashed 2.0 and got my car mount. Love the car mount by the way.

Did you know that Pandora collects info off of your phone and cells it to potential marketers?

This doesn't surprise me. I think there was an article on Android Central's main site recently talking about apps that gather and give out your information to 3rd parties.

I noticed a lag in this version, but couldn't determine whether it was related to my launcher (trying out GO Launcher) or the actual ROM. So I wiped and reinstalled the ROM and am going to stick w/LP+ and see if this fixes the lag problem. Other than that, the ROM is great. I did notice that my Quadrant # dropped to about 1700, but the phone actually seems faster than 1.1.4.

I guess some people don't care :)

I prefer Slacker, which doesn't collect information

Gave up on pandora. Been running slacker for a bit. Although i'm getting this strange reboot a couple times already. Quadrant score is above 2100 if anyone cares. I don't see a difference in speed though.

Your not really going to see a "speed" improvement sorta speak. The whole idea behind EXT4/Edify scripting which these ROMS are now based on is to improve performance. Now they have added this no journaling mod which furthers this performance not really to the point of seeing your phone process or run that much faster but to eliminate any or all "lag" that we had in the past with stock Eclair/Froyo. Now screen transitions are faster/smoother. Less lag waiting for pictures to load up in the gallery and other areas of improvement.

To really see a "speed" improvement we will have to wait for the source code to be released so they can start cooking up custom kernels that will allow overclocking of the processor.

Bottom line, what they have done so far is a huge improvement over what you have running stock Eclair/Froyo.

Just to clarify this- the only thing they can collect is how you use THEIR APP. What you listen to- when you listen to it- what you skip and any ads you interact with.

They cannot legally poll any other data outside their app. PS: GOOGLE apps like search, gmail, maps, places latitude, do this too. If you have any demographic data that they asked for when you created an account- M/F, age, region, zip, that can and probably WILL be sold. What they CAN'T do is sell your email address without clearly stating it to you when you sign up or agree to their stated terms, and they must give you an option to opt out of being contacted.

Pretty standard fare for internet marketing these days.

After installing ROM 2.0.1 my Quadrant # increased by 200 points as it was in 1.1.4.

Pretty Snappy ROM

bonsai love

i have tried about 3 or 4 roms and im settling with bonsai. very clean stable and fast!!! love it

I flashed this rom after truly epic. It was amazing. I tried flashing it with stock dk28 and it would boot up, freeze, and loop boot a few times. Then vibrate randomly and continue to do so.

Why is this?

If I understand you were on Bonsai 2.0.1 and then tried to flash Stock DK28 rom? Only way you can get Stock "leaked" DK28 is by means of update.zip on the SD card or by using Odin.

Either way you need to do one of the following to return to Stock DK28 once your upgraded to EXT4/CWM3 from Bonsai.

- Odin back to stock Eclair [How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone) then go back to Froyo

- Use this method. Flash this zip in ClockworkMod3. It will revert your filesystem to RFS as well as give you ClockworkMod2 with a prerooted, odexed system DK28 Froyo with some additional minor mods

Let me rephrase in detail.

I had etc dk28 installed. I rooted and installed clockwork. Then I installed truly epic. Later I installed this rom. It seemed like this rom looked exactly like truly epic and just did the background stuff.

Later I flashed to dk28 again with odin. Rooted again. Installed just this rom with clockwork. I got the sprint splash screen instead of bonsai. Then an android logo on top of it. Every time the phone rebooted and would fc apps vibrate in off beat patterns and reboot. It would continue without end.
