[ROM] Cognition

do some app hunting, some apps dont like to play nice when restored from stock to the froyo rom, so one of youre apps may acting up because you restored it from stock to froyo ;)

is there a way to overclock the froyo 2.3 b8 rom?

I'm not 100% sure on compatibility, but you would need to swap the kernel. Glitterballs has a nice kernel that is OC'd to 1.2ghz, it's nice and fast, but it drains the ole battery a bit faster

You never ever want to restore System data. User apps + data, not system data. It is possible this is causing those issues you describe.

When the phone died overnight, was it plugged in and charging at the time? Have you loaded anything other than stock Cognition (different kernel or modem)?

I tried you recommendation and I am still getting the same error. I think my next step is to go to factory default and start over.

I was getting the same errors, so I just went factory then I had no problem flashing Cognition.

It didn't die overnight, it just died randomly during the day.

But anyways, I figured out my problem. I had the overclock widget installed, and I have it set to different settings when the phone's screen was off or on. I thought maybe my phone was freaking out whenever it had to change settings, so I uninstalled the widget, and ever since then everything has been working perfectly fine.

Was just over at xda checking out this 3.01....and now there is a 3.02? It appears that it is an update from 3.01 and you may need to have installed 3.01 before using 3.02? Im not sure.... ok it looks like if you are at a version earlier than 3.** such as I am, you can just go with the 3.02 from the get go. If you are at 3.01 then there is a separate update you can use to put you at 3.02 if you wish.

Updating version of cognition after inital flash question.

I'm new to this whole rooting thing, so I followed the 3 video process on how to root/install COGv2.3b6, and it worked perfectly. Then I started looking around today and saw they have an updated version of COG. Now my question is since I have the v2.3b6 would I just flash to v2.3b8 using CWM? Also have the hardcore@speedmod k12n-500hz #22 kernel installed. Thanks for the help.

While I'm new at this as well, I went ahead and just flashed the updated version from the 2.3b8 to the 3.02. It worked just fine.

EDIT: Ever since I flashed the Cog 2.3b8 ROM, my weather widgets haven't been working. I've only tried Fancy Widget and WeatherForecast & Clock widget, but both of them don't want to show me the weather no matter what. Any tips?

Did you reinstall the widgets after flashing, or restore from a backup? If you restored, I would uninstall/reinstall and see if that resolves it. If you installed normally, make sure you have your GPS on if those apps use your current location to return weather.

I just flashed 3.02. I used Titanium Backup to restore but the widgets on my home screen were kinda screwed up. I just removed them and re-configured. I only have 2 widgets so not that time consuming for me. Working just fine now. This ROM has great battery life so far and is snappy. I like

Cognition Froyo lock screen won't fade after SMS

I just put Cognition 2.4 (a froyo build) onto my captivate. This is my first time installing a ROM and i LOVE it! Only thing is, whenever I get a text message, the lock screen lights up to show that i got it, and then never fades away. So if i dont notice that i got a message, my phone dies very very quickly. I've gone through and force closed every app i have (which is only like 10) and none of them solved the problem. The only thing that stopped it was when i force closed the "Messaging" app. Also, this only happens for sms messages and not for email notifications. Email and other things light up the phone and it fades after about 5 seconds just like normal. Anyone have any ideas for me? Can I update the messaging app somehow?

Well, I was using Cezar's Basic ROM, but when I saw that Cognition 3.02 was based on an official Froyo Build, I was compelled to give it a shot. Good call on my part.

I've only come across two issues. One, the Music Player will Force Close every now and again, and two, the EDGE/3G Toggle feature doesn't work very well. That's alright, though, since I'm used to using the dialer to toggle 3G/EDGE, anyway.

Everything else works flawlessly. I hadn't come across a ROM that worked very well with LauncherPro, so I always used TouchWiz, but this ROM seems to work *faster* with LauncherPro. Now I can have my 5 x 5 app icon setup like I did on my jailbroken 3GS.

Best ROM I've used so far. Well done, designgears.

And on a side note, my rooted Captivate with Cognition 3.02 is by far the best smart phone I've ever used. It really is like a mini-computer. And the call quality is outstanding. It does fall short on the multimedia side of things when compared to the iPhone, but I don't mind, since I still have my 32GB 3GS. I now have the best of both worlds.

Ver 3.2 bugs

Flashed Cog 3.2 on stock Cap from At&t. Everything went perfect right away and LOVE the rom!
After a couple of days use I have noticed a couple of bugs.
1) Problems with Blutooth Voice (seems to be a know issue, no biggie)
2) After connecting to my computer with PDAnet I cant clear the USB notifications for USB connection and USB debugging. Even after a reboot, no USB connection and hitting the Clear button. All other notifactions are removed but not the USB stuff.
3) When using the camera to review pictures the phone started locking up and had to remove the battery to reboot.
4) using NAV the other day and after a few minutes the screen started to fade and the phone was locked and again I had to remove the battery and reboot.

I was wondering if anyone one else ws having the same or other issues.
Wit that said I again I still Love this ROM. I have Much better 3G and the GPS wors much better. I would also tell everyone with any GPS issues to first make sure the contacts that touch the inside of the case are making good contact. I first tried to bend up the contacts and that seemed to help a litte, but taking a nife and scrapping or sanding the back cover work MUCH more.

Flashing Cognition

Hello all, this is my first post on these forums, and I have a quick question.
I'm relatively inexperienced with flashing roms, but I am probably going to flash cognition.

My question:
I backed up my current ROM with clockwork mod recovery.
Does flashing a ROM erase all your date? (Apps, Files, etc)

I'm assuming not, since if I don't like cognition, I can just restore my backup of my previous phone using clockwork, no?

any help would be appreciated, thanks

before you flash cog. you should def do a backup, infact i would do 2 . from rom manager use the backup option and name the file. so you know exactly what it is, yesterday i had a nandroid fail on me so better safe than sorry.

Anyway you should def wipe data/cache because if you dont conflicts can happen... If you are on android 2.1 and you do a titanium back up aswell, when you get to cog only restore apps+data....if you restore system data cog will go into a crazy FC loop.
