[ROM][GINGERBREAD] CyanogenMOD 7 Nightly Builds.

Thanks for your help.
I always wipe DCache. Doesn't seem like it makes a difference if I manually install or install from ROM Manager.....generally my experience is that if I have a bad install, it never boots correctly in the first place and that has only happened once. I tried fixing permissions and it seemed like it made no difference or slowed everything down to a crawl. However that was after the snowballing began. Lastly, I only use stock kernels.
Wish I could offer you more help dude... I am on nightly 28 (29-30 were very buggy) and my phone is running very smooth. I know you meantioned that you wipe Dcache, but what about you regular cache too?

Thinking about trying one of the nightlies again. I was spoiled with Virtuous 3.2 and its incredibly smooth performance, and moving to RC1 with its (relatively) choppy scrolling and transitions, I cold only stand it for a week before I switched back.

I'm hearing 28 is fairly stable. Anything still not functioning (HD video etc.) in the builds?

28 is very stable IMO, unlike 29 and 30... I have tried Virtuous too and really didn't notice a difference in scrolling transition, plus you can modify the bounce and effect of transistions in your CyanogenMod Setting in any nightly...

Also, still in the OP, there is and prolly wont be 720p recording for a long time. doesn't bother me though, I rarely record anything. :) give 28 a try with a sweet kernel (im partial to chads incredikernel)... see how you like it.... IMO I prolly won't ever leave this ROM, even if GB is officially released to the Hinc.

Both of the RC's actually ended up being very buggy, especially compared to the nightlies, so I would recommend giving the nightlies a shot before judging the smoothness of CM7. With the latest incredikernel from the OP, everything is silky smooth, with excellent battery life here for me. IMO this combo is much smoother then any Sense based ROM I ever tried.

agreed.... I think 28 is the magic number for me:) I never tried RC1 but RC2 lasted a day on my phone(issues of course) but now my phone is running great, especially with incredikernel set to 128-883 :)

Also, I have no idea what could be causing any of those crazy FC issues. I literally haven't done a full wipe in over 50 builds. I have flashed all kinds of kernels, tried out all kinds of themes or framework mods, never had any sort of FC's other then poorly written apps. I'm not trying to dismiss anyone's claims, it just seems odd to me. Make absolutely sure you are wiping cache and dalvik before flashing, make sure you are not flashing from ROM Manager, make sure you are not overclocking. Lastly, if you have these issues on stock kernel, try one of the alternatives from the OP.

Note; there is a new Tiamat kernel available on XDA, however I will not be linking to it here. Less then ten minutes after flashing my phone rebooted and bootlooped, so I re-flashed the newest incredikernel and all is well.

The default tab setting in the phone was WAY over due! ;)

Seriously, I never know where it's gonna take me when I open it. I really should be cleaning/packing considering I have a day off from work and school, but instead I'm flashing checking up on the thread...

Call me lazy because I don't feel like looking for it while I'm driving, but what is the default tab settings, And where is it located? Is that the only major change for our phones (keep in mind I use dialer one app and not stock cm dialer)

I'll know more in a minute when it's done flashing, but it should allow us to set the default tab (Phone, Call History,...) when starting the phone. Probably won't affect you using Dialer 1.

Lazy ;)

Thats what I suspected, that why I threw in the fact i use dialerOne... :) good looking out though... i already flashed and havent noticed anything significant yet. but I am bout to be with my GF and wont be able to check in depth till later :)

The "Default Tab" setting is kinda tricky to find, I was expecting it to be in the CyanogenMod Settings, but you have to open the Phone app and press menu to bring up the preferences. The default tab option is down near the bottom.

Still looking for where to change the carrier name in the settings though...

Impeccable timing... I saw your post just as my phone finished booting up. And you right it is buried, but it works!

Looks like they fixed the Video Crash too, I just shot 20 sec of video as a test with no problem.

I'm still trying to find the option to change the carrier name in the notification bar though... Maybe it wasn't merged in time for this build? I can't find it. Then again I haven't looked that hard. Damn packing!

Also, I just thought of something. My video recording worked fine on build #29, whereas others had no such luck. However, I was using the MIUI Camera w/ that build. I just realized that may have been why mine worked. So maybe next time they break the camera we can all just switch to that haha

I cant find the ability to change the carrier name to something else either, I know it can be done (ive seen it on other posts in other sites) just not so easy... holla if you guys find it

I just wanted to drop in and say that I recently re-flashed to CM7 RC2 (no nighty's) after flashing the radio and so far it's running great. Very fast without all the VZW crapware. I know this isn't a final release but for RC2 it's running pretty sweet. I'm loving the 360 degree screen rotation.
