Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

What is a recommended size for an SD Card Partition and Swap Size? I have a 16gb SD Card.
Thanks For all the help everyone and sorry for all the n00b questions, still new to the whole rooting thing :)

0 for swap and choose how big you want your partition to be. Usually 512mb is good or 1gb if you're making an sd-ext for apps2sd...

I have another n00b question for you guys. I did the 1gb SD partition and 0 Swap. When I went to wipe Dalvik Cache it said "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (No such file or directory)" Is this normal or is something messed up?

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

just a quick question....I've read through a lot of the posts, and I probably missed the answer if it was in there somewhere...

I understand I can install this ROM on top of the stock kernel, and am I correct in thinking that the only way this ROM is overclocked is if I install gingerkernel first?

Thanks

You can install rom first and then kernel and still overclock.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Thank you very much :)

Is there any benefit to running gingerkernel over the stock kernel other than overclocking? Does it run better/more stable/or better battery life, etc?

edit: just flashed gROM, checked kernel version in "about phone" and see that gingerkernel is installed already. I guess flashing this rom installed the kernel

I'm not sure what all the benefits of drew's kernel over stock is, but I've personally really enjoyed it. You can always flash the stock one if you need to.

Gingerkernal is installed and OC when you install the GROM. The initial setting is 768.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Here's an update on my gROM experience...

I had been using sROM until Monday when I decided to finally step up to GB & install gROM. For the first 24 hours after installation, neither my email or Gmail showed notifications or updated (within the app). After that it seemed like smooth sailing for the next day or so.

For the past 48 hours though, my phone has descended into nonstop problems. All the sudden I'm now getting non-stop "sd card has been removed" or "sd card damaged" errors (exactly like we had when the phone was launched). Additionally, my phone is now rebooting every 6-8 hours. PLEASE HELP!! At this point I wish I had just stuck with sROM, but I don't know how I can easily get back to it, since I've flashed into ZVH.

If no one else is really having the problems I am, can you please tell me how to erase everything and try a fresh ZVH flash, root & install? If others are having this problem, is there an easy way to get back to the VD baseboard, root & re-install sROM?

Thanks all!

The thing is: Everyone's phone reacts differently to the ZVH update so it's hard to say whether your phone is experiencing the issues based on the update or not... To start fresh on ZVH, just flash the stock ROM back on after wiping everything in recovery...
Also, there is a way to revert to ZVD. The instructions are on this forum someone. Don't have a link for you... but it's there if you decide you need it. :)

I might suggest doing the factory reset and then wiping and flashing again. It seems like some people have had luck that way. If you need to revert, there is a guide in the zvh rooting thread.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

I'm curious if I'm the only one whose ROM Updater isn't working. I see the gROM 2.1 in the ROM updater but it refuses to populate available themes. I have the two servers enabled but nothing comes up. Any ideas?

Damn... my gf's Optimus S is starting to have issues too. SD card is showing removed all the time, a few times it's hung so hard that it forces a reboot... I've seen a lot of posts on ZVH not working right... C'mon Sprint, you've gotta fix this!!

I will try a factory wipe first and stick with gROM... but it sounds like I might have to put her phone back on ZVD. Thanks for the help guys.

Did you configure rom updater as the OP suggested?

I would try backing up the SD on the computer, do a format of the SD card and then put the data back on. In the past, unmounting issue are sometimes fixed that way.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

My phone just started having problems with push email. I wouldnt get gmail anymore unless I manually refreshed. Settings were set correct too.

The issue started happening after I installed the custom colored email/sms icons theme. After I installed those, gmail updated itself and stopped syncing. Uninstalled the last update and now I got email push working properly. I did notice that when I installed that theme, gmail showed up as if I had updated it, you know, the "this is whats new" screen showed up. Maybe that theme needs to be updated?

Note to all, disable automatic updates for google apps.
