[ROM] [MikRoms] Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI [07-25-11] New Gingerb

Re: [ROM] [MikRoms] Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI [07-25-11] New Gin

Is this better than DAS Bamf 4.9?

I would say yes, absolutely, 100%....but that's just my experience. I had stability issues with Bamf 4.9 and phone would not only reboot but completely lock up. Others are reporting Bamf 4.9 working well for them. So, my best advice would be try them both for a few days and see which works better for you.

i noticed that also - mlb at bat and several other apps just don't appear in the market. i have been meaning to clear the data for the new market and replace it with the old market, but haven't done it yet. my titanium backup of mlb app worked just fine, also.

Ok, so you can use Titanium Backup to get the apps that aren't coming up in the new market place?

I'm a bit new to rooting. I thought I read in Cyberwarrior's guide, that you shouldn't use a file from Titanium Backup from one ROM to another.

Am I wrong about this??

in theory--yes, you are correct. it can be dangerous to load an app/app data that might not be compatible with your current ROM.

but--i've yet to experience problems with it when loading my TB backup of apps/data (don't forget--DON'T backup/load system apps/system data). it's an "at your own risk" scenario, of course.

and if any app seems to FC too often or give any problems, you could always remove it from the phone & go about your day (after fixing permissions/clearing data/clearing cache & any other potential fix, of course)

Like p.I.p. said, you don't want to restore system apps or system app data, as a rule of thumb, however there are instances where this stuff can be restored.

MLB app is a user app, so it is generally safe to restore at least just the app from titanium, and usually the user data is ok to restore as well.

As always, make a nandroid backup with recovery in case something goes wrong.

Also, paintdrinkingpete wrote up a guide on restoring data and apps, which is linked up I.side cyberwarriors sticky guide up top on making backups and flashing roms.

The last 2 days I'm not getting as good of battery life from this ROM as I did the first few days. I'm at 71% right now with almost 9hrs since being unplugged. Not terrible, but my display time is at 5min. So I've barely touched my phone yet, my battery is down 29%.

dang.
awesome battery life right there.
29% over 9hrs, or 3.2% an hour--.053% a minute--or...i'll stop there.
either way, that's pretty good.
but figure that battery loss could also be caused by any syncing by any applications, any phone signal being searched by the cell radio, or even just a rogue app---all of which is still pretty minimal given the amount of time. means it's on track for 31.25 hours of battery life.
this kicks any ROM's butt that i've used where i couldn't even go 8 hours (not even using the phone).

yes i've noticed that the first few days were awesome on Battery life and then it slowly got worse (still better than any other ROM i've used).

you're not complaining, i understand that. didn't mean to come off as such in my post.

Thank you both very much. That helped out a lot. Read the guide and it worked perfectly. Wiped, Re-flashed and now I have the missing apps.

34% voice calls
28% display
13% dialer

Definitely not complaining. This is easily my favorite ROM so far. I just was wondering if anyone else was seeing drops in their battery life after a few days. I mean mine still makes it through the entire day, but its not like it was the first few days. We'll see how things go with it today.

I think my problem is that when I'm at work, I don't have a good signal so its probably searching for a signal all day. When I get home, I'm on WiFi and it tends to last longer.

Re: [ROM] [MikRoms] Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI [07-25-11] New Gin

i'm in the same situation.

at work, i have horrible reception (being in a warehouse)

which makes me think that the battery stats could be affected by the negative reception that's trending while at work--which those stats then affect the battery life while outside of work & at home. make sense?
--battery stats is being affected by the negative signal for the 8hours a day that i'm at work and that then negatively affects the time that i've got awesome signal and the battery should last longer.

(just thinking out loud but it makes sense to me :) )

now---all i have to get fixed is this stupid issue with not being able to answer calls & this ROM will be perfect.

update: from 8am-10:30 i lost 19% battery and am sitting at 81% battery (loss of .126% per minute)
turned on Airplane Mode at 10.30. and now at 11.30 i'm still sitting at 81% battery. pretty sure, for my case at least, it's a signal issue--not a ROM issue. so there is hope yet!)
might try flashing Chingy's newer radio instead of the MR2 i've been running.

I'm using Chingy's new radio. I agree with you though, I think its the bad signal that I have here. I have 4G turned off so I go in between 3G and 1X all day while at work. But once I get home and on WiFi, my battery seems to last much longer.

Re: [ROM] [MikRoms] Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI [07-25-11] New Gin

I'm noticing that my WiFi even though its not connected and the Dialer are the things using most of my battery. Any ideas?

Anyone having issues with the screen not turning off during calls? It's causing random hang ups. Just curious if this is a hardware or software problem.

*if you're not connected to a network/don't plan on being connected then don't leave Wifi on. it'll keep searching for a network--hence the battery drain
(& if you already knew this, then i apologize--but from the wording it sounds like you're keeping it on when not using it)

*go to menu>settings>call>Assisted Dialing>uncheck Assisted Dialing/Dialer (people have seen a reduction in battery drain from the Dialer after unchecking this)
your Dialer will still draw power, but it shouldn't be as much.

all the time. i now dont hold the phone on my shoulder as i am on a call. would be interested to know if there is a fix for this.
if memory serves the very first TB updated corrected that issue right? it basically shut the screen off. the proximity sensor

I knew about WiFi, but I've always left it on all the time and never noticed anything until now.

Had no idea about the Assisted Dialing, so hopefully that helps some.

i was on the fence about leaving Wifi enabled on Stock.

However--on this ROM--i've noticed that i have worse battery life while using WiFi. i've also read other posts about people experiencing the same issue of worse battery life when using WiFi---i'd imagine this is linked to the Kernel.
perhaps leave WiFi off for a day and see what results it yields.

Re: [ROM] [MikRoms] Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI [07-25-11] New Gin

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Just downloaded and flashed ROM. Installed Chingys latest radio as well, assuming it would work well with this ROM. So far so good, everything links up instantly, phone is fast and fluid, apps work great.

Only thing I have noticed is that my download speeds are lower then with the stock ROM and radio (did not accept latest OTA). Same effective signal strength 4G & 4 bars at home (I know I am lucky).

Curious if anyone has any thoughts on the download speeds varying with the new radio and how I might tweak things to improve download speeds. (7mb now, 14-19mb previously).

Re: [ROM] [MikRoms] Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI [07-25-11] New Gin

So anyone else getting atrocious battery life with this ROM? I'm barely lasting a day, despite doing all the recommended steps. I am overclocked to 1.4ghz with a smartass governer so that shouldn't be effecting the life, seeing as I'm only using it to check Facebook, Twitter, +, emails ect.
