[ROM] UNL3ASH3D V1.0 [BLURRY] MOTO Kernel (09/22/2011)

Welp I held my breath and took the plunge into ROM country with this. The installation went pretty smooth, thanks to the clear instructions provided here and by the developers in the MOD's thread (there's also videos now :) ) and also thanks to my ability to FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, which apparently is tough for a lot of the folks flashing the MOD, lol. So far my impressions:
1. Can't say I'm an immediate fan of the blacked out look to everything (I added the 3xp3ri3nc3 mod with it which I guess blacks out the look and feel even more) but its not bad, its change and I need to adjust. I guess to be fair it looks cool in most cases but I'm not sure I like it in things like the Contacts menu and certain contextual menus, just kinda makes it harder to read things..

2. Its definitely smoother and faster, operationally and boot times, etc, everything is definitely more refined and better tweaked than the stock experience.

3. In terms of my Apps restoring... This was not as sweet as I would have liked. Many of them did automatically redownload and install when I first signed in. However many of them I had to reinstall from Titanium Backup using the backups I had. Wouldn't have been that bad, but TiBu seemed to have trouble when I instructed it to do a batch restore of multiple apps, especially larger ones (mostly games and the like), and would stall out. So I discovered it would be better to do most of the bigger apps one at a time. Not difficult, but time consuming. Hoping maybe someone can correct something I did or suggest a better way to handle that stuff.

4. Related to (3) would be app data.. but I guess that comes with the turf. Things like game progress, as well as just settings for many apps and bookmarks in my browser and all sorts of stuff like that.. Thankfully TiBu has the option to quickly restore an app's data with the backup copy, its just also pretty time consuming.

5. Contact restoring was fine once I figured out how to make sure all my contacts were backed up to Google before wiping. Linking them again to their facebooks and stuff was annoying as hell.. any workaround that will save them like that for next time??

6. 1% battery MOD is very cool as are the toggles in the pulldown menu. Pluses all around.

7. Did the Powerboost script as well (there's a vid tutorial for that also) which should enhance the sd read tweaks, battery saving, signal strength and speed... can't say I've noticed much difference yet but haven't had time to delve..

Overall seems cool, not fantastic or anything, but I'm glad I got through my first ROMing experience relatively unscathed, thanks to the help of some guys here as well. Will update as I get more accustomed to things.

It's a great ROM, I love it so far. But you didn't have to wipe personal data or apps at all to install it. If you DID follow the instructions correctly you would have all the same apps, contacts, etc.

i usually find a much better experience by doing a complete wipe over a partial wipe.

on anything i've ever done.

All instructions said to format system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik... I did exactly that. What method are you recommending? And from reading through their forums it seems just about anyone who didn't do the full wipe wound up with some sort of problem or another and flashing.

Still wondering what I might have done wrong or could have done differently to make this easier ^^^

But also came on to comment that I'm super impressed by the battery life I'm getting since ROMing and running the Powerboost script... With moderate usage yesterday (couple app downloads, moderate web browsing, texting, facebook, twitter, and some phone calls, etc) before going to sleep I had been on battery for over 13 hours and still had over 30% battery remaining (think it was about 34-35%... also loving the 1% battery meter, lol) And that's on 4G the entire day. Sick!

I installed the powerboost script today as well, it saved me about 10-15% on my battery today, and I was using maybe a bit more than I usually do. I'm impressed, I definitely will keep using this thing.

Dude that powerboost script is the nuts right? Can't get over how much better my batt life alone is not to mention the speed tweaks and all that.. Why can't moto/google/whoever figure out how to do that so well.. Crazy that we have unpaid developers doing such great things :D

Agh the new update nuked all my data this time, I lost all my data now...resetting up everything is going to be a pain in the ass again.

Lol didn't read the first page? Said for 1.8 you have to wipe everything, and that the ROM would wipe too, someone in their forums said there were built in scripts that would wipe as well. That's why I'm holding off though.. at least to find out if its a worthy update. Let me know what you think about it after getting it all set up. Says the powerboost script is completely updated as well.

I like it so far, its prettier at least, and it boots up in half the time. I looked all over to see if it would wipe, and didn't see it... Well its all back up and running and its quick! Just a wake up call that I should be regularly backing up data. But it boots up in half the time, and is just all around smooth and much better looking

Says on first page: NO MATTER WHAT ROM YOU ARE COMING FROM

THIS ROM WILL WIPE EVERYTHING, IF YOUR NEIGHBORS PHONE IS TOO CLOSE... IT WILL WIPE IT!!

Lol but yeah good you got everything back up. I'm tempted, I'll probably cave in later tonight and flash it, sounds like a worthy enough update. I have TiBu do backups on schedule but before any wipe I would def double-check that everythings been backed up completely, do a new nandroid backup, copy everything to my computer for added safety.. better safe than sorry, lol.

EDIT: You run the new Powerboost script yet? Looks like the instructions to set it up are changed a tiny bit. Curious to know how everything functions with that going as well.

i tried running it on 1.7 yesterday but i kept getting an error that it couldnt find something or create something....i gave up. im going to wipe and install 1.8 tonight and try that

Think you might possibly have misunderstood the directions.. to be fair there were a few of them and a bit confusing, lol. But I don't think that "error" message would have actually caused any problems while running the script. Idk I could be wrong.. in any case please post back on your thoughts about 1.8 when you flash it, I'm itchy to hear and wondering if it's worth a full wipe or if its just some minor tweaks I won't even notice, because 1.7 with the PB script is running just fantastic for me now.

Its said that from the beginning, but he added something in this version to nuke everyone's data so they don't lose stuff like the camera app. I hope it doesn't in the future, but a clean update does help to smash any bugs coming from user data

EDIT: And after seeing Ice Cream Sandwich, here's to hoping we'll see someone get it going on here before Motorola

Lol I love Powerboost. I decided I wanted to swap back to my standard battery for a day and see how it does...it got down to about 38% when I got home. That's with medium to heavy usage, games, browsing, etc. All 4G of course, and my like 30 apps I am notorious for running all the time lol. I did notice that Fring today was running all day for no reason lol, so that's turned off from running on start.
And as a comparison...I got home with about 45% or so on my extended battery without powerboost (probably a little more). I got home at 38% on my standard today lol.

Lol ain't it sweet? Yesterday... 4G all day.. medium to heavy usage including all the usual stuff plus about 1.5 hrs of navigation, an hour or so of gaming, about 30 minutes of voice calls (thats high for me)... when I finally was going to bed and plugging in I had been on battery just shy of 14 hours and had 28% left. Stock battery too, never bought extended. How sweet is that? :D

EDIT: I'm still holding off on the 1.8 update btw... 1.7 is just working so well and it doesn't sound like there's much reason to go through the hassle of wiping for the update.

Th3ory tweeted today that 2.0 is going to include the .893 OTA update that's supposed to fix those nagging bionic issues... just wanted to share the good news
