Samsung Galaxy S4 cannot connect to PC via USB after upgrade to Android 4.3

Guys don't waste your time on Kies. It never worked for me even on the first day I got the phone which was before the update. Just use AirDroid, you don't even need to connect to PC via cable. I've been using it for 6 months and very happy with it. But you'll need to find another way to back up your stuff maybe through Dropbox? Cos I don't think AirDroid has the back up feature.

hay my phone is samsung galaxy s4 it is not connecting with my computer help me and say me how to do it sooonnnnnnn

I too had this problem after I upgraded to 4.3. I'm a noob to the android world on a Verizon S3 and don't have a custom ROM running, so keep that in mind when using this. I found the following worked perfectly for me. Who would have thought you would need to install a Samsung driver on your PC...

This is how I enabled USB under 4.1.2
Unplug phone from PC.
Enable Developer Options:
MENU>SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>
Scroll down to the "greyed out" "BUILD NUMBER"
and tap it 5 times (possibly 7), you will see little
alerts telling you how many more times to tap.
Now go back to:
MENU>SETTINGS>DEVELOPER OPTIONS should be visible now!
Under developer options settings, check the box "USB DEBUGGING"
Next download the Samsung Galaxy USB drivers onto
your PC.
Download Center: Download Software, Firmware, Drivers & Manuals | Samsung
Choose your model and carrier.
Install and reboot.
Now when you connect your Galaxy it will either auto open
Windows Explorer (if PC), or if not, pull down the taskbar
on your droid, and under USB connection, you can select
Media Transer option.. MTD I think? or MTP. I can't
verify because it doesn't appear anymore after the 4.3 update
Give it about 30 seconds to connect, and it should appear
in Windows My Computer list of available drives.. SCH-1535 I believe. if Verizon

Guys, forget about KIES! or trying to connect using the steps all of you mentioned. IT DOES NOT WORK. I've tried everything!!!. Thanks Aesthete18 for mentioning AirDroid!!!! it works much better!!

I had the same problem with the update and nothing worked. If you have a old phone that wasn't updated then put the SD card in and plug it to your computer copy everything you need once finished put back in other phone or just fail ##3424# and hit Qualcomm and then mpt and bam back to normal!

I followed darupp's directions but did not have to download software- it seems as though turning on Dev Options and Checking USB Debugging, then restarting my phone made it automatically reinstall/download the appropriate drivers to my Windows 7 laptop. After all drivers downloaded I can now see my S4 4.3 from windows explorer and access all files. Now to turn off Developer mode and see if it stays available!

One things that no one has made clear: When you connect via USB your phone will go into one of three modes- installer, Media Device (MTP), or Camera (PTP). Installer installs required files to your PC, Media is the easiest to transfer files, and Camera allows transfer of picture files but not videos for me. Touching the USB symbol at the top of your phone screen will give you the option to select one of these modes after Install mode does its initial job.

I experienced the same issues after getting the S4. The solution: You MUST use the USB cable that came with the phone. If you use another USB cable, it will charge but will not connect to a PC. Once I used the supplied cable that came with the phone, it connected, was recognized by my PC correctly and was able to access the phone files on the sd card and phone memory. My phone is from Verizon and is on Android 4.3

Hi. I had the same problem with kies.If csc code unknown of your phone this is problem to connection the pc via usb cable.how to check csc code *#1234# (for S3) and check the csc code it shouldn't be unknown.

Thats strange, I use the supplied cable on the laptop, a standard usb on on the desk top at home and at work. i wounder if its a user specific issue.

I just spent HOURS on Google trying to figure this out. More than likely this is the answer, somehow your Qualcomm Modem settings got changed.
If you are using Android 4.3 open the dial pad and dial *#0808#
Android 4.2 *#7284#

then under Qualcomm USB or USB settings it should be on MTP or MTP+ADB, it was probably on RMNET + DM + MODEM. Make the change and choose OK.

All should be fine now. :D

Thanks.

:-* O:-) :)

After months and months of wrestling with difficulties moving files (pictures/music) from my Galaxy S4 to my PC. I finally tried the USB cable that actually came with the phone and voila... worked immediately and in seconds I was moving files back and forth. I don't know why I didn't try this originally.... totally my fault there.

That being said.... I STILL maintain Kies is just a bunch of garbage. Millions of users across the world are not technical enough to start perusing through menus on their phone and/or desktop and spending hours on hours trying to figure out something that should be plug and play.. The developers who script these thing aught to know this already. And using DropBox works, but is also a joke. Who wants to wait 2 hours for a video to upload?

i don't see those three dots. and i don't know how to reinstall the drivers on my s4. the computer just won't connect with the phone via usb?
