Samsung's UI will always be better than stock

Re: i don't understand why people like Stock Android so much?

The purists refuse to believe that the Note 8 can function flawlessly, without lag.
They are Wrong. My phone is just as fast today as it was on release day.
I am Really sick of the "Samsung lag" BS. That horse is dead. Just stop beating it already.

While I hope the lag is dead... I think we need time to see if these phones will lag. If we make it past 9 months and still are not seeing widespread lag, I think then we can declare it dead, on this phone. I mean we are only at 4 months, and I have only had mine for about 1 month personally.

Re: i don't understand why people like Stock Android so much?

I love my Pixel 2 XL but I still can believe a Samsung is fast and works well. Hence why I have owned Galaxy S2 to 8+ and Note 2 to 7. I have definitely tested the waters and am not "Google or die!" as some :).

Damnit Almeuit.... you made me do it, I ordered the Panda Pixel 2 XL. going to have to try it out. LOL

I will probably keep the Note 8 but will be nice to have a pixel to play with the latest software.

Re: i don't understand why people like Stock Android so much?

I'm actually fine with Samsung making their own core apps, IF Google grows up and allows one of two things: 1) the OEM gets to pick which apps are preinstalled, making sure that a version of each core app exists and that it meets minimum standards of performance and functionality... Or 2) both apps are preinstalled and during setup the user gets to pick which one's they want, and also during setup, the ones they didn't pick are disabled. And the ones they did choose are set to default. Again, the core apps need to meet minimum standards.

I'll mention something that I always try to keep close at hand... never make the assumption that everyone else's experience matches your own. Just because your phone doesn't exhibit a particular behavior or problem doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Yay at least you're giving it a try :D.

Or have the ability to uninstall post setup. The problem is how Android is distributed. Because Android is open source, the OEMs can pretty much do whatever they want; unlike Microsoft's Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft didn't allow OEMs to change to OS. They could pre-install their apps, but had to allow users to uninstall them. That was one of the things I loved about my Lumia 928 and Icon.

Honestly, it is no different than what you get when you buy a desktop or laptop computer. The OEMs pre-install their stuff, and in some cases you can't uninstall it.

Re: i don't understand why people like Stock Android so much?

I like samsung apps better than google's. They Consume less resources, support themes and have consistent ux. I have J7 Pro and a note8. Both work flawlessly. Typed (wrote) this using S-Pen.

I had a Note 5 and really enjoyed the experience. After I got a nexus 6p and was just blown away by stock (or almost stock or vanilla or whatever you want to call it) Android. The performance was just amazing. I can't lie though...the Note line is nice. To each their own

Lol I'm in the same boat, switch constantly between Note 8, Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X

Definitely nice to have a pixel around to play with latest Android software or to just switch up if you get bored with Samsung stuff or vice versa.

Re: i don't understand why people like Stock Android so much?

why is it such a big deal? stock experience is kind of boring. take out all the fun stuff and give you only the basic's. Basic phone with a heavy price tag..
OLED screen is cheap aswell.
Don't you think Google is getting abit greedy now?

this is comparing Pixel 2 XL to Note 8 or s8+

Sends to be like apple to me. I dint like sick Android. I like the customizability.

Re: i don't understand why people like Stock Android so much?

if Google stock android is really good then how come Samsung is number one? Google stock android is not even in the list in the best selling smart-phones. as you can see below. Most people prefer TouchWiz which people call lag, stutter.

Bad premise. That's like saying Fords or Chevy's are "better" than BMW's because they sell more cars domestically.

Part of your answer to your question though is marketing! I'm not saying Samsung's are garbage, cause they're not. I actually like them.
But they are successful in part because they have really good marketing (which they've been doing for years) which creates mindshare. Google has only really been marketing their phones since last year and the beginning of their pixel phone line. If you remember, the Nexus line was mainly for enthusiasts and developers.

To add to this; the Nexus 5X and 6P got some ad revenue, but not much. The Pixel devices have been much more prevalent.

Well, I'll defend that previous poster.

Agreed - lag really does exist - just like many other less-than-desirable things in life that can typically be remedied by having a little insight, and burning a couple of calories to resolve the issue.

Is it possible in this universe that a Samsung phone exists that for some freakishly bizarre reason has "terminal lag" that cannot be fixed by anyone? Sure - I guess. There's got to be one, right? But, I really believe that's the distant exception - it's not the rule.

So, for the vast majority of us that have lost our patience with uninformed "Samsung Lag" posts over the years, it's real easy to say "Hey, I've never seen it. Sorry!" It happens to the best of us!

Re: i don't understand why people like Stock Android so much?

Updates. Snappy performance.
I agree Pixel XL2 is overpriced. Samsung offers some built in apps that cannot be duplicated on the Play Store. The thing is for whatever reason Samsung phones lag. Not a matter of if it is only when. I also find scrolling jiggity on Samsung phones and I sometimes type faster than keyboard can handle. The Note 8 has the ram to avoid these problems so I guess Samsung hasn't learned to utilize it well enough.

Still, despite the slower updates and inferior preformance I would choose Sammy for the nicer screen, spen, built in call blocking and other Samsung features lacking in basic Android.

I have built in call blocking on my Pixel. Fyi.

Another poster claimed it didn't I just believed him. Thanks for the correction. Another feature I would miss is the zoom and crop on Youtube to watch full screen without the black bars. I don't know if that works in Netflix in Sammy or Pixel 2 xl.

Yeah you can either add it manually or from the recent call list (see below).

You can zoom in on the YouTube app and it fills the screen just like on Samsung so.. no black bars. Same thing ;).

I tried at vzw store. Vzw pixel "expert" tried too. No dice? Maybe missing an update or something? It wouldn't zoom on HD 16/9 video. Do you have Netflix? Does it work there too? Big feature for me. It works on iPhone X as well.
