Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK-Update released.

I got the update yesterday. I have LTE in more locations but it is still spotty ! 1 or 2 bars at best. I still have little to zero signal in my home or in my office in lrvine so I'm not impressed. I have also noticed my Airave device is acting strange. Not sure if it is related to the Spark network or what.

Make sure you do a data profile update. If forces the data connection to provision in the Sprint system again and that will make sure it pulls down the programming to enable the Spark stuff. Airave's and Tri-Band phones don't play nice, sometime you have to turn off LTE to keep a connection to the Airave, but that has been an issue since the tri-band phone first came out. If it's just started and the Airave itself that is acting up (lights blinking, etc) then it doesn't have anything to do with Spark. It's just acting up in general :p

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK-Update released.

I did a speed test and it wasn't great at all, about the same as 4G, first two the signal went out to Virginia the last two the signal went out in my city, neither test was anything great. Also noticed that this update knocked off my 4G and instead I get 3G and sometimes nothing, maybe I need to update my PRL and Profile again or maybe sprint needs to fix something. So far, not as impressed as I was when it worked right earlier today.

With the update I have noticed both a Spark splash screen and also no "music" when booting up.
I like it. :)

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK-Update released.

I could not have said it better myself:

"Priorities are not a network selection preference. They are a network scan preference. It only consults the priority order for scanning. When your device needs to scan for a new LTE signal, it will start with the order saved on the device.

It will start with highest priority band and scan all the channels of that band. If it cannot connect, it moves on ton the next band and then the final band. Looking for a channel to connect to.

However, once it connects to an LTE channel. It doesn't really consult your device anymore unless it loses an LTE signal and has to start scanning again. The network will decide when you change bands after your initial connection. It handles your hand-offs.

People can set Band 26 as the highest priority. But when they get there and make a connection, if the network decides you belong on Band 41 or Band 25, you will get shunted over there. So selecting priorities is only good for deciding where you will start on the LTE network. So trying to over think which band order is most important really doesn't matter much. Sprint is going to decide where you're going to be dynamically every few seconds based on loads, signal strength, quality, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint starts using Band 26 as the main band and only start handing off LTE traffic to other bands when an active data session starts."

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK-Update released.

So I bought the g2 just today. I came home and tested the network speeds before the update and I could hardly even get a data connection in my house. The speed test failed evrrytime. At this point I was complicating returning my phone as my galaxy s2 never had signal problems in my house.

I downloaded the spark update, updated prl, and updated the profile... Now boom!IvI've got 4g lte and it is fast as hell! Check it out.

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK-Update released.

After I reprioritized my bands I received a roaming message(41 as priority1) and tried to tether I received the not subscribed to hot spot warning. I switched back to 25 as priority1 and no roaming message. I reinstalled the hotspot mod and everything is working again.

Wait! What is hotspot mod? Does this take the place of foxfi?

My speeds are pathetic with the update. I am testing in the house but it's bad. I unplugged the airrave but it got even worse. I will try out in the world later but so far not really impressed with the speeds. I'm sure that's just my location but it's rather disappointing.

You might have gotten the software update but still on the old equipment on the towers. I got the software update yesterday and thought the same thing till I looked into it further.

If you have an airrave, you must already have a terrible signal at your location, a software update can't make a nonexistent signal stronger.

Did you have a LTE signal at all before the update?

I just got this phone Jan 1. Prior to this phone I had EVO 4G LTE and yes, I had 4G service on it. My son who has an EVO ONE has LTE service here.

Would love to see that video of with two G2s, one before update and one after (in a known spark area and a non-spark area).

Isn't that what the video is?

The second phone is not a G2, is it? I guess on second look it could be a white G2 , but don't those say LG at the bottom too?

The icons at the top are not clear enough to make it out.

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK-Update released.

I'm sorry.. Yes "hotspot mod". My phone is rooted. I'm currently using "stock rooted ota," with G2 Exposed, xdabbeb camera mod and hotspot. I love it. No hiccups or bootloops.

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Tri-Band LTE aka SPRINT SPARK-Update released.

Anyone know where I can get an accurate map of what spark towers have been lit up? I can use sprint's coverage tool, but I always feel that it is innacurate haha.

The guys at Community Blog List - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates have that info but you have to donate to become a Premier Sponsor to access. It does not take alot to get that level. I have not had the opportunity to do so yet.
