Test Kernels From Adrynalyne (updated 1/21)

Running the new kernal (voodoo standard voltage) (my first kernal flash) with ODL9 and superclean... runs great so far. Bat seems to be going quicker though.... but I have been playing a lot of droid words.

Am trying to download nonvoodoo (not ready to play voodoo yet) test 5, but it's giving a 404. I'd really like to see if this fixes a blue screen of death error my phone seems to be causing because i'm fresh out of ideas.

Sorry about that. I fixed the link.

That make me so many kinds of happy. You're the man. I was gonna just suck it up and run the voodoo kernel so I flashed CWM red, should I reflash green or does it matter?

EDIT: This seems to have fixed my eternal computer killing death driver some how too. Where in the heck do I make a donation? I plugged the phone in and it loaded a bunch of new driver stuff, and magically didn't crash, both of which are totally new. But seriously, where can I donate to you?

On a side note one bug I noticed right away is a black box in the middle of my verizon logo on boot up. Doesn't really offend me any but makes it look a little ghetto. I'll keep my eye on it and report any more bugs.

It doesnt matter, because as soon as you flash that nonvoodoo kernel, it will go back to green on next boot.

Just flashed Test 5 nonvoodoo uv kernel. Played 2 hrs of the Beatles and everything sounded fine... no popping sound at all. Tried out the GPS and it seemed to lock on quicker than when i was using the 12/30 kernel. The wifi signal seemed weaker, but my internet connection has been pretty annoying the last few days so not sure bout that. I dunno what else i'm really supposed to be looking for but I'll be playing around with it til the next update. Thanks

EDIT: OK... so quadrant scores were consistently around 890ish whereas before they were in the 930s with the 12/30 kernel. Also the 2 major things i noticed is that my phone got hot rather quickly and when i try to mount the device to transfer files, my computer wont recognize it like it used to. Plus overall i found it to be slightly less smooth than the previous kernel i had used... but what do i know really. I'm gonna try the SV and see how it goes

better battery life? is this a dream?

FYI:

been using the standard voltage test 3 non-voodoo 01/16 kernel for a couple days and i have experienced a HUGE difference in battery life from previous kernels.

not doing anything scientific here to measure but in general, i have previously not had what i would call good battery life with any radio/ROM/kernel setup. The biggest hogs, not counting the display - which is still a hog even though i always keep it manually set to the lowest setting, has always been "Cell Standby" and "Phone Idle". In other words, at work and at home the VZW signal ain't so hot and the radio chews up a lot of juice trying to find and hold a signal.

But since i've been on the sv nv 01/16, it seems to have improved significantly. For example, right now it's been over 5 hrs since i've had the phone plugged in and im at 96%. now i havent done much at all with the phone in those 5 hrs but in the past typically i would be down in the 80s at least after that length of time.

phone has been snappy as ever so overall this kernel is working very nicely for me. will report more in a few days.

Question for Adrynalyne: based on your OP, it appears the Test 4 and 5 kernels are only to address those with certain issues - if im not having those issues is there any need to go from Test 3 to Test 5? i see Test 5 has a low voltage option that the previous kernels did not.

Actually, the low voltage version is what I included in previous tests, as default. Now I am giving a choice, because people are wanting standard voltage.

If you are not having usb troubles, then no, there is no reason to switch.

that's what i thought, thanks for the clarification.

since the Test 3 kernels are labeled as standard voltage im assuming you are referring to the other Test kernels as being low voltage by default, unless otherwise noted.

Test 5 sv: CDROM bug fixed! Music crackles ALOT!
Test 5 uv: CDROM bug fixed! Music crackles ALOT!

Wifi was working great and fast. Got a GPS lock in under 6 seconds.

If you could combine the music pop fix with the CDROM bug fix, I would be golden!

Will continue testing. This was just within the first 10 minutes of the test.

Thanks Adryn.

Lots of music popping on test 5 nonvoodoo undervolted

Sent from my (adyrn test 5 undervolted) super cleaned DL09 fascinate using tapatalk

I am getting zero music pops.

I gotta wonder if its something else you guys got running...like battery widgets.

Running test 3 I get audio pops while using stitcher to stream podcasts. But I only get the popping while the screen is on. When the screen goes to sleep the popping stops.

I don't use battery widget or mods. I haven't tested the music in any player but PowerAmp and the pops mostly occur in PowerAmp's main UI. If I home out of PowerAmp while its still playing I hear pops rarely.
If the screen is off and the music is playing I get 0 pops.

I didn't care for the 200mhz fix and I don't mind turning off the screen. The workarounds work for me.. its just my last remaining issue with the phone now that you fixed CDROM bug!

Widgets I do have is default Weather and default Calender and PowerAmps lockscreen widget later-- (oddly, no pops occur while using that lockscreen PowerAmp widget)

Im just not sure how to address the issue, it sounds like a cpu usage thing with the music player. Everyone with pops using poweramp, or something besides the stock player?

Same here, I'm on test 5 uv nonvd with stock music player... I went through the entire Beatles discography with zero issues. I'm also running the quick battery widget... and just for fun i loaded up my home pages and widget locker unlock screen with extra widgets (stock 2x2 music player, 1x1 weather widget, 2x2 jorte calender, and a custom slider with 3 buttons) and i've had no popping issues and battery life seems to go down about 1% an hour with minimal usage, and havent really noticed any lag with all the extra stuff i put on there

I've been using standard voltage test 5, all day, awesome sauce. No music pops on standard player through 45 minutes of solid use. No battery widgets on board, only battery booster in the notification area. Starting test with winamp now to check for music pops. Didn't like power amp much so we'll have to see.

Battery life seems to have taken a dive. Wouldn't say for sure since my heavy usage is pretty inconsistent but i'd say i'm about 60% positive of this. Also just started advanced playing with ATK, so i'll go without that tomorrow and see if it's better.

Once again, where does a guy go to donate to you there Adrynalyne?
