The LG G3 has arrived :-)

Re: G3 or Note 4

Nope, not interested.
You assume they are equal. The Note 4 is bigger; too big for my taste.
It's Samsung; KNOX bootloader and all. No thank you.

This..........

Once root is secure and tons of custom roms are available yes.... But I would rather wait and see how next springs One series pans out and the Z series from Sony

Well I just can't resist and probably spend to much time over at XDA.

Since the launch of the G3 progress "was" slow due to locked bootloader ect

However quite a few mods are now happening and ROMs will follow now that there is a recovery exploit.

Even just with root access you can heavily customise to make it look like you have a custom ROM installed.
I have to put out a disclaimer in that even though Devs are detailed in "how to instructions". One can still get into a soft brick by installing a mod that perhaps clashes with another.

I have spent a ridiculous amount of hours between installing mods, soft bricking, flashing firmware to recover, installing a mod again softbricking and having to each time set up my G3 again. Its very long and can get tedious.

However there is now TWRP recovery that one can use to flash a backup.

I now have a nice ROM android now v1.3 that is so fluid, its a joy.

A lot of tweaks have been done and for now until bumped ROMs are available I'm very happy indeed.

A few mod pics below....

Re: G3 How far do you go to customise?

I'm Stumped, Bumped, running Nova Prime, G3TweaksBox with Cobalt theme, custom navigation icons, debloated much (but not all) of the Sprint and LG software by freezing it with TiBu, restricting startup apps with ES Task Manager, and modified build.prop and other XML settings files.

Will be watching ROM development, but I'll wait until there are solid, stable ROMs before I flash any.

When did you get your G3 Meyerweb? Good to see you here man cause when I start rooting, ya know....I'm going to be needing your help, lol! :)

Re: G3 How far do you go to customise?

Yes as stated you can very easily soft brick (which to me is easy to recover from, for a novice it could be tricky) but we all start somewhere. But you may hard brick and that is Game Over (but my experience hard to do) but not impossible.

Just read and then read it again and go for a 3rd time before you get adventurous.

Once you get a bit of experience your OK, but I have installed mods that have clashed with others and softbricked many times.

My mods are Navigation Keys, G3 tweakbox & Themes. Android now ROM, TWRP Recovery & Theme, Fonster with HTC font, Moto pack, Unbounce, and a few others that I can't remember.

Re: G3 How far do you go to customise?

I'm V10h, rooted via Purpledrake and Bump'd. I have Nova Prime, G3 tweakbox, a module for the BBC weather widget and one for Google Play Music.

I do like messing with things like new icons, customising nav and status bar etc BUT I'm not clued up enough to mess with build prop files or anything like that.

I'm probably going to flash the AndroidNow ROM at some point (it seems version 1.4 is close to being ready).
I'm quite new to flashing roms (I've only flashed Cyanogen once on my Nexus 7 2012, then back to stock) so it'll be an experience, lol.

I have one question though (which I've asked on XDA), I've created a nandroid backup of my current v10h stock rom using the Bump'd twrp. I've saved it to my external sd card. I want to restore it as a test to see if it works ok. Do I need to wipe cache and DALVIK or anything like that even if I'm restoring the exact same stock ROM?

Re: G3 How far do you go to customise?

Lol it funny but the only time I've ever hard bricked a device was when I was trying to update the firmware for my HTC One X on AT&T. I was running it unlocked on T-Mobile so AT&T wouldn't send the update over the air. I downloaded the update from HTC's website, and yes it was specifically for the AT&T model, but it bricked the phone. Luckily HTC unbricked it for free and all I had to do was pay a couple dollars in shipping to get it to them

Had it for two or three weeks now. I was considering the Note 4, S5, and Moto X 2014, but the Note is just too big for my hands, the Moto X has too little battery, and no ability to swap it (and no SD card support), and the S5 is just too ugly. I never considered style a major factor, but geez, that band-aid back is just terrible. And even with the bigger screen the LG is more comfortable to hold.

I do think the S5 has a superior screen, though.

Rooting the G3 is child's play compared to the S3.

Re: ROM Android Now :-)

Updated to V1.4 this ROM is blazingly fast and great work from the developer.

Re: ROM Android Now :-)

^^^I suppose it'll help fill in time till you gets your Note 4. I saw one lit up in an EE store today. Such rich colour! Such contrast! Such pixel-free sharpness!

Re: ROM Android Now :-)

Huge Delays so will be a few weeks or perhaps months before I get it lol

Ain't to fussed though I have a blazingly fast G3 on Android Now ROM and couldn't be happier.

The Note 4 don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to....but ain't gonna gripe about delays... These things happen.

LG G3 720p Max resolution for youtube

This may not be breaking news but I have just realised that the Max resolution for YouTube 5.10.3.5 (most recent) is 720p.

This is strange I previously had the option for 1440p and 1080p.

Considering we are now moving towards 2560x1440p resolution.

Why would Google roll back Max resolution to 720p?

Out of curiosity tried rolling back to previous versions and nope 720p is the Max.

Very very odd.
