Thank you. Yes I am definitely going to return it today. Very annoying. Hope the next one will be fine.
I am just unlucky I once had to exchange 3 Sony Xperia Z1 phones because of overheating and camera shut down. But I am a bit nervous to get another one with the same failure.

Let you guys know what's happening.

Did anyone get their replacements yet? I'm picking mine up today. Hoping for a perfect phone this time.

An AT&T representative did a diagnostics test on mine last week. And my phone had hardware and software issues as well (not sure how accurate those are) but the light leakage is only on the left side of the phone. In the picture only the bright box makes it noticeable because it's the only bright part.

I expect to get another one if this is a defect why am I going to be stuck with this defective note it's so clear the middle metal chasis doesn't meet the top screen I do have a case but it's driving me crazy. I've been a loyal Samsung fan but this is ridiculous.
Well idk why this surprised anyone. They are pumping out millions of these. I guarantee you that more then a few have defects of some type.

grr got the replacement and it's the same thing! Not sure if to just give up and just enjoy the phone -.- please let me know if your replacements don't have the same defect.

I got my replacement today don't settle my 3rd replacement was perfect

That's the light from the display being bent and carried through the glass around the curved edge, and then reflecting off of the metal frame of the phone. Kinda like a fiber optic in a way. All Galaxy phones with edge displays do this to some degree. Some may look a little worse than others due to distinct characteristics of each phone. The ones with black frames seem to look a lot worse as the shiny black reflects more light, while the aluminum frames don't reflect as much. If you turn your phone off, then take a flashlight and put it close to the display, you will notice the "light bleed" effect then also, even though the light isn't coming from your phone. Light bleeding is impossible on a OLED display as they don't have a backlight like a LCD would.

So in other words, no big deal?

Pretty much, unless your phone has a larger gap than normal that makes the effect look larger on one side or something like that. That may be the case with this one. But of it's just a very thin line that's even on both sides that's normal. Every curved phone I've had has had it, but it is definitely more noticable with the shiny black frame on the note 8. (I've had the S6e, Note 7, Note 7 again, S7e, and now Note 8)

it's disappointing because of what happened last year As a consumer I expect a product that's like this to be hastle free. The fact that they admitted it to me is even worse I'm glad they did but is still very very disappointing. Even now right now as I use it I can see the light protruding on the left side and the side. The more I look at it the more noticeable it is lol. I might just #Note8EdgesLeakage

Plus I would think that would not make it waterproof anymore.

I think it's due to the different thermal expansion rates between metal ang glass, causing the edge of the glass to show. As with optic cables, light concentrates at the edges. If this theory holds true, Samsung could have blacked out the edges of the glass.

Honestly I would like to see someone that has light bleeding as bad as the pics put their phone in a bowl of water for 30 minutes and see if stays water tight. I mean even I said I bet the adhesive seems so strong in the Jerry videos I doubt it would leak. But who knows... it could be cosmetic, but if you bought a new $120k Porsche and had noticeable body gaps between panels, do you still say it's no big deal? But if it's what Samsung reps have told people that it is really "Delamination," who knows how it's gonna look in 6-8-12+ months... I guess it could separate over time from constant handling.

I highly doubt that a vehicle as expensive as that would make it out of the factory with defects like that. You're comparing apples to very big oranges. Not even the same thing. Now I get it, if there are defects, and you pay $1000, you want it perfect. But the manufacturer has the right to eventually tell you enough is enough, you're nitpicking and we're not giving you any more replacements. You would then probably never buy from that manufacturer again and be done with them. Just my $.03.

I hate to break this to you but even on $120,000+ Porsche you can have problems.

I know. But for that money, I wouldn't be taking a car that has a noticeable eyesore like a body gap... especially from them. From Chevrolet I wouldn't be surprised. But I digress lol.

Hi all.

My carrier will exchange it since it's DOA. But there are not many phones left here in Denmark.
I hope to receive the new one tomorrow, and hope it will be perfect.

I once had to exchange an Sony Xperia Z1 3 times before I got an Samsung S5 instead. Hope it won't repeat. I have comunicated with another guy who has 3, with no defect, so I hope i am lucky this time.

Will let you know.

David
