The Official Battery Life Thread

9hrs 39mins unplugged cell standby 50%, phone idle 49%, battery at 90%. can anyone help me get the cell standby lower.

This is the percentage of total use not a raw number. If you started using the phone for other things the standby number would drop but it would not actually change the amount of energy being used.

The only things I can suggest are:

1. If possible move to somewhere with stronger cel signal
2. Use WiFi when available (this uses less juice and takes the strain off the cel radio)
3. Decrease how often things sync in the background, especially when in poor signal areas.

So long as I want the phone to fully functionality, background data and data enabled should always be checked/enabled, right?...even if I'm using wifi? Just trying to get more out of my battery...been very disappointed with it thus far.

Hi all. I've been reading the forum for a few Weeks but this is my first post. How are you guys getting such good battery life? I get 5 hours best. I'm on it constantly but it looks like most of you are too and getting a little better. Ive got background data off and wifi, gps, and Bluetooth all off. Only widgdt is retro clock screen is at 30% or so brightness.

have you tried auto brightness?

Check your stats... See what's eating the battery. Maybe you have a bad app.

I haven't used the stock battery I got the extended. Yesterday I tried to full kill it. I took it off charger at about 9am or so. Used it moderately all day, fairly heavily for a while streaming spotify. About haft way through the day I switched to 3g only (no 4g around). I made it to about 9pm when I went down to 20%. Changed the battery to battery saver mode and got me till midnight when I changed to a normal power setting and turned 4g and began to stream spotify again. About 130 I got an alert saying I was at 10%and plugged in the charger.

Needless to say I highly recommend the extended battery.

I have solid lte everywhere I go currently and at home.. I also have unlimited data, don't use wifi and have it disabled... I am very happy with the battery performance for my use throughout the day. Use GPS and Bluetooth (widget to turn off BT quickly when not needed).

Total time off charger 5 hrs 45 mins
Total display time on 3 hrs 45 mins.
Played robot defense 2 hrs 10 mins
no talk time, no sound on.
Wifi the entire time
Battery at 10%
I consider this very poor.

My battery life was pretty poor today. I barely used my phone for 8 hours and it was down to 40%. Made me go to the Verizon store and get an extended battery. I hope it helps.

I'm a little irked that people keep suggesting "turn off all radios and wifi" to fix the poor battery issue. When I pay $300 for a phone, I expect to be able to use it as I wish. I don't think I should have to basically reduce it to a glorified PSP to be able to get decent battery life out of it. I'm not asking for anything crazy...I have NO problem having to charge my phone every night. That being said, I should be able to make it 14-15 hours of inactivity coupled with moderate use (which I'm not even getting close to) without having it approach 0%.

I would be happy if it would last 6-8 damn hours in wifi or 4g. This is most likely going back to the store.

Hmmm, mine is on day 3 and lasting 12'15 hours on wifi and 4g with moderate to heavy use! Maybe something is wrong or you have an app that is heavy on the sync'ing?

No app's, I have gmail and aol mail. Nothing else is syncing. I don't have facebook app's or anything else. In fact I have only downloaded two app's and both I used to run on my OG DROID, robot defense and beautiful widgets.

for those having amazing battery is anyone using battery saver mode? ive been using nightime saver but i just switched to max since i dont need the phone syncing when im not looking at it, it'll sync as soon as its active so maybe thatll help with the battery, i also use the news widget and social networking widget and i have yet found a way to adjust the sync on those apps

You dont need to turn off ALL the radios, just nu-needed ones (ie LTE) and reducing how often the data syncs to the phone wont hurt impact your enjoyment of the phone in the slightest.

when you say reducing how often data syncs, are you talking about in data management because if i go into the individual apps i cant find any sync options, i.e. news, and social networking. the facebook app does but thats it

Yes forgive me, on a Moto device that is what you would have to do. I forgot for a second that not all phones have the options that HTC has in Sense to change the update schedule for their own core apps (ie Frienstream streams) which take up a ton of the data usage.
