Thunderbolt Pre Announcement Waiting Room & Availability Thread.

its not the truth

they know damn well people expected the phone on the 14th and they failed to meet that expectation

not meeting customers expectations = bad business

I want this TB as much as the next person BUT I don't remember VZW ever giving a launch date. Yes we all expected it but never had a date other than "GUESSES"

So speaking the truth is arrogant now?

Their "there was no release date" line is garbage. Best Buy is PRINTING ADS FOR NEWSPAPERS based on what Verizon is telling them. You're telling me BB is MAKING that up?

There was a release date. They didn't publish it because then they could pin it on Best Buy. That may fly from a "technicality" perspective, but the spirit is not there.

They had a date, were too scared to commit their own name, so they let Best Buy take the fall.

It is truth. Nobody from Verizon stated the 14th. Just because Best Buy said the 14th without putting any caveat doesn't mean it's Verizon's fault. I was only told POSSIBLY notice the word POSSIBLY the 14th by one Verizon employee and he even stressed POSSIBLY. He made sure I knew that there was no official word on a release.

Guys.... guys.... Best Buy had a release date. Did they say that it was subject to change? Yes. But I asked Best Buy, they said the 14th. Now they say the 24th. Where are they getting that? Making it up? Maybe but unlikely.

The fact that Verizon doesn't communicate well to it's Retailers is not my issue. They told them a date and BB communicated it in good faith. It was Verizon who failed to announce the date and then meet it.

this is ridiculous, verizon can tell their partners best buy all the dates they want, there is a reason they don't release it to the public b/c its subject to change and it would piss everyone off. thats why there are internal memos and updates and things arent released to the public. whatever the reason for the delay, its delayed there isnt a damn thing we can do about it and verizon nor best buy has had an official release to give us a date its all speculation!

If anyone can show without a doubt where Verizon or HTC has given a date, please let me know.
I will stand with you 100%.
Otherwise, Best Buy, Wirefly, Amazon and countless other forums posts, speculation, insider trading, wall street buzz are all you have.
Period.

Not trying to be nasty or derogatory, but everyone wants to blame HTC or Verizon.

They haven't said anything other than coming soon.

WRONG. It was Best Buy who "leaked" insider info without permission. Even if Verizon did tell Best Buy that they would like to get it out by the 14th, that doesn't mean that it's an official release date. Nothing is official until Verizon makes it official.

Verizon knew that BB was going to do a pre-order. They knew they printed ads for this weekend. They knew that Best Buy people would tell people who came in to the store that it'd be the 14th, then the 24th.

Your attempt to absolve Verizon of wrong doing is just... well, wrong. Verizon should have told Best Buy the same thing they told us "We don't have a date. We'll let you know". But they didn't, because they had a date and they run a business.

You guys want to accept that Verizon can do no wrong, that's cool... but at the very least, they left BB hanging out to dry and that's not right.

Maybe the point should be that VZW has never supplied a date to release the phone. If my customers asked me when I would have their product available for them and I told them sometime within the next 6 months, I would be out of business. Maybe I should follow VZW's method and just telll them, "I am not saying". Yeah that would go over big. For a big company VZW does not do a good job on phone releases and communication with it's customer base. VZW knows they have us by the short hairs in some areas because the competition"s network doesn't stand up. So they will release phones when they want and tell us S*&T because they know they we will just keep coming back for more.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. They didn't LEAK IT. They told their store personnel to respond to customer inquiries with that. That's not a leak, friend -- it's a communication.

FWIW Verizon is paying attention to our tweets....

from their official twitter: @raunchy_jesus We havent "changed" the Thunderbolt launch date- since we havent announced it yet.

Look, I used to work for Best Buy so I have no real ill will towards Best Buy. All of the stores I worked at were upstanding and Best Buy really did change majorly from 2003 to 2007 when I worked there, but there are still people within Best Buy that don't go by the book.

Most of the time whenever we got literature about a possible release date of a large item that was beyond our control, there would be the date with (tentative) or (possible) next to it. That means that the company would like to release and have us sell it by then, but there is no guarantee. That means you don't go blabbing to people saying "Hey this is supposed to release on this date."

All release info and ads are supposed to be confidential and anyone found breaking the confidentiality of those can be fired on the spot and this is Best Buy policy. If anything, Best Buy needs to be the one getting their house in order after this.

Read my post above. I used to work for Best Buy and in wireless at that. I know the policies for releases.

Like I said, even the one Verizon employee that told me the 14th said that it was just a target that they were trying to reach and by no means was it the official release date because they weren't supposed to release until March.

what is wrong with telling a supplier/reseller we hope to have it to you this date then it get delayed? this happens all the time with products across all facets, not just smartphones, things happen, that is why they didnt officially announce anything. we got inside word that it was when it was supposed to happen, not official word. A sales rep at BestBuy is not official word...
