Thunderbolt Pre Announcement Waiting Room & Availability Thread.

It could be that we (TB groupies) are being used intentionally to promote the phone.
I don't think Verizon cares about this phone at all. What they do care about is making people want their 4G network. And they're gonna use the introduction of this phone to do that. This phone is an advertising tool for VZW, that's all. Then the next 4G phone, then the next... it's gonna be all about the Network just as it has always been. When they finally do announe the release date of this phone, the announcement will have more 4G stuff in it than phone stuff. Betcha.

Additionally, making people want a 4G network equals more contracts. Advertising is all about establishising a perceived need. At this time, probabaly more contracts on 3G phones than 4G phones. That's just how it works. If people think they need Verizon's new improved 4G network they'll buy a phone and start a contract on VZW. Any kind of phone.

They are in the business of making money. That's the bottom line. Nobody made money by caring about customers.
If this affected ALL of their customers across the board, then they would care. They are not going to drop everything else and cater to a bunch of us Boltaholics.

Agreed, that is the bottom line. That being said, there are times when these companies underestimate, or are just plain wrong about whether something will lose them money or not. But most of the time the masses (in this case the ones whom verizon care about) are easy to predict.

The truth is, Verizon has not only not announced the phone, many of their store employees don't know much more than the fact that the phone exists, if that. After the one week advertising blitz of 2/14 (Hmm... why do you think they did that, THEN pulled the ads? I'm curious. You're obviously one of those "no delay" posters, so I'd REALLY like your thoughts on that) they have acted as if the phone didn't exist. Maybe it doesn't. If that's the case, and we have no evidence to the contrary, I think anyone who switches for another phone, particularly an HTC 4.3" device, is acting rationally. If we can't go off of the rumors as so many helpful posts point out, then we go by the reality. The reality at this point is that the phone does not exist and is not set for release.

First of all, I don't know what a "no delay" poster is so I'm lost on that part of your reply. I cannot, as most folks on here cannot tell you why the advertising blitz in Feb. occurred and then was pulled. We can all speculate as to the reasons, but no one except the insiders at either HTC and/or Verizon know the answers for sure. The reality at this point is that the TB DOES exist in some form and that Verizon HAS NOT EVER set a release date to the public. I really don't care who switches from one carrier to another or why they switch, as they all have their own reasons. The point that I was trying to make is that it seems totally silly to go ahead and switch to another carrier because this phone isn't out when some sooth-sayer said that it would be. Until Verizon makes an official statement of the release date, and it doesn't come out then, it hasn't been released LATE. I am one of many that keeps hoping for a sooner rather than later launch, as I have an Omnia II that is slower than smoke off of a pile of dog poop! To each their own and do whatever you have to do to make yourself happy, just don't complain that Verizon has repeatedly pushed back the release date when they haven't.

Please tell your wife welcome home and Aloha.

Exactly...if they have 100 million customers and they sold 1 million *phones that is a measly one percent...I think endagdet or another site stated that only 30% of the customers even have smartphones...I don't think we are Verizon's "base"...no way that the the tbolt outsells the *phone at launch. I believe many of us are thinking that we are way too important in Verizon's business model...

The tbolt will probably be my first smartphone, which sucks because I didn't know all this drama was going to blow up, I just thought I was going to walk in about February 14th and pick up a phone...so it sucks that I couldn't do that. My wife's year long deployment in Kuwait ends next weekend...something tells me I'll have other things to look forward to if the phone doesn't drop on the 10th!!!

I have a feeling that the delay will not be a critical issue for us. When it comes out, all will turn into happy face.

However, There will be many sad faces after getting this device. I feel that there must be some critical issues in this one. Be wait and see.

Ok, I'll bite. There is no delay, because they haven't announced a release date. The phone DOES exist, but it is not coming out on Verizon... wait for it... because they haven't announced a release date. Until they do, the phone is OFFICIALLY unofficial.

I'm not trying to be belligerent or pick a fight, but it get's old hearing that there has been no delay. Verizon corporate store employees told me the 24th in person. They were confident of that. I am not of the opinion that I should have to ask them for a copy of the press release, or a notarized affidavit. Nor do I carry a [insert religious tome of choice here] for them to swear upon. A verizon employee's word as a representative of the company should be good enough. To summarize: my perception, based upon my personal experience and the information I was given, is that this phone has been delayed.

If we can't agree on that, can we at least agree that the matter of whether or not the phone has been delayed is a matter of semantics? (Some antics?)LOL

Right ...then the real fun will begin.... roots/ themes / ROMs / problems / complaints and eventually the "Where's gingerbread" thread.

I would just like to take a moment to thank the moderators for allowing us to continue to vent, speculate, and simply discuss the release of the phone. I also joined droidforums.net at the same time I joined androidcentral and droidforums.net has chosen to close threads like this one here and refuse to allow any more discussion of the TB until there is an official release date for the phone. So thank you for allowing us to talk about what we want to talk about in this forum :)

Dude, tell your wife thanks for her service!

And that certainly didn't come out right! ;)

On serious note, he is right. She needs to be commended for what she has done for the country. I have utmost respect for men and women in the forces! SALUTE!!!

I think the moderators over there are pretty inmature. I also followed the threads on droidforums and in two weeks they closed three threads about the TB release date.
In the real world people disagree, you just have agree to disagree and move on.
I'm waiting as patiently as I can for the TB release. I won't cosider it delayed till after the 31st.

Why don't we start saying the 24th my birthday after all and if it comes earlier than that we'd be so happy that it came so so early!

Very good question. Hoping they dont go the iPhone and make it 2 year only.

NO....everything I have heard and everyone I have asked has said 2 year only.

That will really suck.

Wouldn't it be beneficial to sign up for a 2 year plan instead of a 1 year so that you can be sure you'll get unlimited 4g for 2 years? Won't VZW require you to go to a tiered plan after your 1 year contract is up? I guess if I sell the Bolt after a year and buy a new phone at full price VZW can still require moving to a tierd plan. Thoughts?

Yes that would be a benefit. The problem is being a phone nut. I know I'll want whatever is coming out in March next year. That is why I am willing pay extra for a one-year contract.

You know, I totally understand that the phone has been "delayed". Pretty much my whole point to this is that it seems foolish to me (and maybe others)
to totally abandon the TB, if that is truly the phone that you want, just because it has been "delayed" for a few to several weeks, depending on what you first believed was the release date. I also would most likely have made the same assumption that you did, based on talking to Verizon reps when they told you the 24th, but.........as we all know for sure......100%, it ain't out until the Big V announces it and the reps have it in their hands for sale. I'm very anxious for this phone also and agree that there have been numerous let downs in the past weeks, but I guess that my hope of getting a TB is not dependent on when the BBS sooth-sayers and internet sites specify that they think it will be out. I guess that in my 56 years I've seen a lot of things that are suppose to be out on a certain date and that date comes and goes without any fanfare or even rumors. Most of my adult life has been spent with motorcycles and riding. Talk about release dates that sometimes never happen or to find out that they are going to be built, but only available in Europe and not imported to the U.S.A........that's frustrating to, especially if that is the bike that you really really want. So I guess a "phone" just doesn't rank up there with some of the other things in my life....AND....I've learned to never expect it until I can put my hands on it and know that it is really available for sale. Unfortunately, some of the people that I've seen on some of the Android based forums (no names mentioned because this is their own business, not mine) almost treat this like they have missed the Second coming of Christ (if you believe in that).........and quite honestly, I just can't get that hung up over a "phone", albeit a phone that I want also.

So there, I think we've found something to agree on.....the phone has been
"delayed" is in the eyes of the beholder. Have a good day and thanks for some good input.

Looks like my first post will be my last. Been lurking for a while. Been waiting since my Droid died in November. Thanks for all the information and speculation. This board is good therapy! :-)

However, I've had it with Verizon. They take us for granted like we're their herd of cattle. I can understand any release date they might choose, but I can't understand not communicating with us. A smaller company would "kill" for this many excited fans lining up to buy their latest offering. Not Verizon - they're too big. We're insignificant.

I may not love the MyTouch 4G, and I definitely don't expect to love the tiny network. But maybe I'll be valued just a little bit by the company. And that'll make all the difference.

If you hang around for the Thunderbolt, I hope it's all you thought it would be and more. And I hope you really do get it soon, not "soon".

Good for you...if you are t-Mobile....I think the first HTC dual core will be coming to them in May or June...It is called the Pyramid. Good luck!

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not a biker, but I have plenty of friends that are, so I'm aware of and can sympathize with the delays and never delivered devices. Thanks for the conversation. AND we managed to keep it civil and keep our heads. I'm proud of us! Have a great day as well!
