Keeping mine. This will still be a bad ass phone in a year or two.

Remember , faster better phone will eat more battery. There are new phones coming out, but not new batteries.

i paid $30 extra for a 1 year contract instead of the 2 year contract. whats this extra $125 to $150?

I was told that with a one year contract the phone would be $325 - $350. My two year contract was $199.

If you paid less than $230 for a one year contract, you got a fantastic deal!

Lets hope that's NOT true about new batteries. Can you imagine how much money a company could make if they came out with a "super" battery?

I'd pay top dollar for a OEM sized battery that could run my TB with everything on for 24 hours of non stop heavy use.

i paid $229 pretax for 1 year and from what i read so did everyone else that signed a 1 year (with the corporate discount), which it looks like you received also. so today is day 14 and i am going into verizon. i will be walking out with my droid x back in action or tbolt on an extended battery. hmmmm

I wonder if it's too late to get the one year for the extra $30?

Rooted last night so looks like I'll be keeping it and searching for the perfect set up to make this pathetic battery last the day without having to plug it in.

I have no idea how I was able to obtain what I did. Corporate pricing for me was either applied in some limited respect or something else was. I got it for a little more than that. I also got a discount as part of a plan when they offered me an upgrade with a usage discount for one month but for some reason couldn't preorder the phone. Net was a great deal for one year.

I'm keeping it for now. I'm extremely happy with everything besides the battery life like everyone else has said. I've decided to keep it because I'm hoping with the next update there will be better battery life. If not, oh well. Its still the best device in my mind on the market right now. Not to mention its on the BEST network in the country.

Android processors and hardware is advancing so fast. It is great to see things advancing quickly like this, but in order to enjoy the upgraded processors and speeds, we have to have a battery that is able to power these devices so that we can use them. Like I said, I do not have a Thunderbolt, but it seems crazy to only equip the phone with a 1400 mah battery. People seem to be crippling their phone just to be able to make it last for 5 hours (example: Dimming brightness down to 25%). Bottom line is developers need to focus on improving the actual battery itself now.
Excuse me, but I thought this thread was titled "Thunderbolt - who's keeping; who's not?" I don't own one is not an option.

Too many other posts to read... but I am definitely KEEPING the Thunderbolt. It is one hell of a solid device. The build quality is great, the hardware is solid, and the development community is strong thus far.

After minor hiccups with getting HTC to fork over the kernel source everything has been great! The hardware specs are more than capable of running Android extremely well. I cannot wait for AOSP ROMs on this thing (especially CM7).

Custom kernels will trounce benchmarks in performance... other kernels will show the true efficiency of the 8655 Snapdragon and run overclocked and undervolted, milking the device for all it is worth.

The Thunderbolt is a great choice! (oh yeah, I did not even mention the included 32Gb microSD, 4G LTE, etc etc... the list goes on).

The one thing I would change would be the display. I would like to have qHD! ;)

Mine has already been returned. I loved the device, but the battery life and build quality were deal breakers for me.

I knew going in that the battery life was bad, but I use my devices pretty heavily, and I was typically hitting 15% by noon. Charging wasn't always convenient, but I could have made it work if I put in a ton of effort.

The build quality was the real kicker for me though. Right off the bat I had bad light leak, but I let that slide. Then I noticed that even lightly tapping the search button caused the LCD to ripple in the bottom right corner. The final straw was when 4 pieces of dust magically appeared after about a week under the screen on the bottom-left side.

I went back to Best Buy, played with their live-unit TB and noticed many of the same issues with that one as well. I'm sure they're not all bad, but there are enough reports from folks on here and other forums to make me seriously doubt the consistency of quality from the device. Considering you pay a $50 premium (with contract) over other comparable devices, the issues I had just weren't acceptable to me.

Instead of exchanging for a new device I went with the iPhone on Verizon, mainly because there's nothing Android based on Verizon (aside from the TB) that I was interested in. The iPhone solves the build quality issues and I have no qualms with iOS. I still have my other Android devices as well.

Keeping it, I knew about the battery issues going in and that's really my only complaint. Still on the fence about rooting because everything is nice and set up, but once a non-wipe root comes out, awww yeah!

I wonder if it's too late to get the one year for the extra $30?

The normal price when I bought was 249.99 for two year... and 349.99 for a one year.

With a corp discount it was either 229.00 or 279.00 for a one year. I chose the one year and thought it was a great deal paying 29 more then normal price for a one year deal.

Now I'm seeing people paying less and it must have to do with the size of their corporation and how much they do with verizon. My discount is for a small corp (about 70 phones)

Sold my DX already so I guess I could say I'm stuck with TB; however, that wouldn't be true. I love this puppy. Most days I'm at my desk or at home so I can plug the little bugger in. Gingerbread is coming soon and HTC will tweak this zoom zoom along the way. I'm all in. Besides, I'm doing so well with AB Rio!

Eleer --

I've been using a BlackBerry for work for about five years and I've been upgraded every year since I started and am now on AT&T using the Torch. I've had VZW, T-Mobile and AT&T.

I give BlackBerry lots of credit in the "it does what it's supposed to do" department. It is very reliable. I just wish it did more. But yeah, for reliability you can't beat RIM.

Keeping it. This is my first Android phone. Had a BB Storm before this. While the battery life on the TB seems to be not as good as the BB, I can't help but chalk at least half of it up to the fact that I find myself actually using my TB way more than the BB. I leave it plugged in at work while I'm using it to listen to music, I charge it overnight, I keep a charger in the car, and I've got a micro USB cable stashed in my briefcase for safety. I enjoy the experience enough that I don't mind having to be extra-mindful of my battery, though I am tempted to get a better battery.
