Tried and true fix for battery issue

i think the phone OS battery meter is getting calibrated at a lower spot than what the true battery's hard coded setting is, so when you sharge with the phone off the OS is not there to artificially stop the battery charging at its perceived "full charge" state.

no matter what, the battery has its own hard-coded cut off which will not let you damage the battery. so there's no harm in doing that "trick".

what you guys need to do is either root and wipe the battery file in the OS. or do a hard reset nad somehow correctly calibrate the battery meter (the OS's battery file) from the beginning.

So I plan I picking up my Inc. tomorrow.

Is there anything I can do in the first few charging cycles since it will be new that will help the OS battery meter get more in line with the true batter hard coded setting?

Nope not that I'm aware of. I did a full charge without powering the phone on per the instruction manual. Not even turning it on to activate it until the light went green. The only thing I can tell you is I only did the "trick" charge once and every time I've had the same battery life, much much better, than I did on the first set of charges. Because of that deleting that battery file within the O/S after a root would do nothing, because I get the same life now regardless if the phone is off or on when I charge.

No scientific reasoning here, but if I were to start over, I'd do the following:

KEEP THE PHONE OFF

Charge until green

Unplug, wait a second, plug back in - wait until it goes green. Keep doing this until it starts to go to green quickly (mine took a TON of times, and it eventually got down to around 1 minute to go to green before I stopped).

Power of phone, drain your battery, then repeat the above process. I'd think doing this process say 3-5 times would allow the calibration file that's stored on your device to be as accurate as possible (perhaps the bump charge would have an effect, not sure though). I don't think this could hurt at all, just don't know how much it'll help. At the least, you'll get your bump charge out of the way early!

good luck getting it tomorrow....stores are out of stock and backordered til june lol

Yeah, I'm gonna get mine from Best Buy anyway so hopefully I can find an Inc. at one of the many Best Buys near me. Only problem is with it being a mobile phone, you can't get availability status online so I may be doing some driving tomorrow, but we'll see.

Don't know if I can wait any longer ;)
It's been all I can do to wait this long

I ***HIGHLY*** reccomend doing this. Specifically charging it while its OFF. Yesterday morning I tried the "regular" charging method with it on over night. Woke up, unplugged it, made a phone call that lasted about 2 minutes and my phone dropped down to 80%, I **** you not, 80% after a quick phone call.. Now, thats flatout, ****in rediculous.

The following day(Today) I charged it over night while OFF, woke up, unplugged it, plugged it back in and waited till it was green to turn it on then unplugged it, used it all day and its 9:45 PM and my phones at 74% with some useage on it.

I have absolutely no friggin idea why the hell the device is dieing sooooo quickly if you charge it while its on but I sure as hell hope they do something about this because while I love the device, I cannot stand the absolutely atrocious battery life. I dont give a **** just how powerful it is. To drop from 100% to 80 in less then 2 minutes on a phone call is just wrong. Im tempted to take it back and get my money back until I hear some better results after an update that hopefully "fixes" this issue.

thx, I'm definitely gonna do this. As hard as it will be to have it sitting there next to me and not play with it, I'm willing to do whatever I can to attempt to improve the horrendous battery life.

I would take it back if I was that unhappy with it.....sheesh. I don't foresee an update fixing this issue, but ya never know! I mean I do get better battery life now but nothing to write praises about. With heavy usage without the bump charge I got 6 hours, with I get 10 under heavy usage. If I use it with "normal" usuage doing nothing but phone calls, a bit of web browsing, snapping a few shots with the camera, and getting emails, sending a few texts and chatting on Gtalk I get plenty of battery life now.

Hmmmm....I charge the "normal" way - get to 100%, unplug. Last night I talked 1/2 an hour to my boyfriend and I dropped to 95% after that call. I don't like having to turn my phone off to charge it, so I just don't.

I'm getting about 22 hours with moderate use of my phone each day (phone calls, texting, checking e-mails, looking at a video or two and about 30 minutes of games during the day).

And this is with the stock battery. I just make sure that my phone is truly "sleeping" when it goes into standby mode.

I'm not getting close to that at all, I can push it out to 16 hours with extremely light usage. Care to share what you're doing???

try charging your phone tonight until its green while its on. then when its green turn off the phone and you'll see it start charging some more. let it charge overnight and in the morning unplug it and turn it on. your battery life will be better. i've been doing it for a couple nights now and the battery is better. but some people say you only need to do it once.

Done it, under heavy usage I went from 5 hours simply charging it to about 10 with that technique. I've only had to do it once, with or without the bump charge now I still get the same life.

Well, I did it. :) I actually found one at the first Best Buy I went to at 10:00 this morning.

I got it charging right now. Gonna try the bump charge before I turn it on the first time. I may try the bump charge and charging while off for the first few days, but after that I will be just charging normally with phone on (I have no landline) so I'll let ya know how battery life goes from there.

I still feel kinda :( about my BB Tour which I really did like, but I can't wait to play with Inc.

Congrats! You will be very pleased with this phone and I promise you, your feelings about the BB will go away within the first hour of using the Incredible lol.

I love the device and everything it can do, I just dont understand how the battery drops sooooo quick on mine is all Im saying. Like I said in my post, I literally unplugged my phone, made a phone call that lasted not even 5 minutes and my phones battery dropped 20%... I mean come on. Lets be real, thats not right...

You're right it isn't right, mine drops 20% in heavy usage after 45minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes of use depending on what I'm doing. If you aren't happy with your phone, which you don't seem to be, it could be the phone or it could be the battery take it back and swap it out you're in your 30 days still!

While the battery doesn't last as long as the tour's, which is what i came from, the rest of the phone capabilities make up for it. I love this device. The only thing is that I wish is the joystick thing was more sensitive. Is my just not really that responsive, am I doing something wrong or is it really like this? It just seems like it takes forever to scroll with it or anything.

the last 2-3 days i have been getting over 24 hours with the extended battery. that was with moderate use with about 25% awake time.

the OS certainly is managing the phone better for better battery life IMO. i am not bump charging it either. I did charge it will the phone off maybe 1 week ago but i did that several times before and didnt really change anything.

I played asphalt for 20 minutes last night and the battery only dropped 1% and i was very happy about that, i was expecting 5% atleast.

i will be very happy with 20-26 hours out of a charge with my use.

Yeah that sounds really good. The more I read about your experiences with the 1750 I may go ahead a get it. I believe the problem with the bump charging etc, must stem from something in the battery not the phone itself.
