Tried and true fix for battery issue

Are you guys sure the green charging light means its fully charged? Because on the nexus one, the green charge light comes on when the battery hits 90%, and you need to keep charging the battery for another half hour to get it to 100%. It's just the way they coded it. So when you guys are turning off your phone to charge, and the light turns green, that's only 90% full. This could be why you think "topping it off" is having this effect.

So has anyone paid attention to see that the green light comes on at 90%, and you still have another 10% to go?

i cant say for sure but everytime i have seen the light come on its been 100%....i normally leave it on well past it turning green though. always have

That may explain some of it. I know if you charge till the light is green with no bump charging. Then turn the phone on and use it it says 100% for about 2 minutes then quickly degrades to 90% within a few minutes.

Yeah but the 90% charge thing doesn't really count, considering I would be willing to bet most people plug their phone in over night, so that pretty well cancels out the 90% green light idea. Mine, when I have time stays on the charger for 30 minutes to an hour after the light turns green.

So I dunno, still debating if I should place an order for the 1750 through Amazon for $41 plus free shipping but waiting 2-3 weeks for delivery now, or just suck it up and buy straight from Seidio for $49.95 + shipping and have it here in days....grr Amazon how I loath you!

I tried this technique have noticed an improvement! Do you think it would benefit me even more to do a factory reset as well?

I did a Factory Reset after three moderate to heavy use days going down to ~14%, each with a full charge cycle last week. The reset may be a placebo, but battery life seems more stable. I still turn the phone off before connecting it to the charger overnight.

With "Mobile network" (3G) disabled and Wi-Fi switched on, I have 1 Day 12 hours Up and 4:30 Awake, since Friday morning (now at 35%).

Wow nice result.

@howarmat the issue with Amazon is I guess they are on backorder because delivery is estimated 2-3 weeks. I need options now, this is a fast paced world!! lol

ah i got you, i ordered mine on wednesday night before launch day after i had got the phone earlier that day and and with prime it was delivered on friday. :)

From our FWIW department: it is possible that the the DI charges the battery in a manner similar to my Omnia i910 in that when the battery becomes fully charged, the phone stops charging and does not charge any more until it is unplugged or re-booted.

So when we charge our phones overnight and charging is complete by, say, 2:00 a.m., it gets no more charge until you unplug/replug and-or restart. This would explain the results you see by doing the "rain dance" procedure.

Again, I'm not qualified to speak on the DI's charging procedure... it's just a thought.

Think its time I take my phone in. Lastnight I charged it while off and unplugged it and within 10 minutes it dropped down to 90%.... this ain't right..

So you guys don't know for sure if its 90%? Many of us nexus owners noticed this immediately which explains a lot. Someone should do a test to see. All you have to do is plug in your phone and see if it hits 90% and the light turns green. Do this with the phone turned on.

Oh I see the problem, you need to have the battery widget on your homescreen to show exact percentage to do this test. In fact that probably explains everything why some people think its fully charged, remove the charger, and It immediately drops to 90% because view assumed green light meant fully charged. Add battery widget to your homescreen! The one that shows temp, voltage, and percentage all on the widget. This will explain everything I have a hunch.

no, i assure you that i would uplugg at 100 and it would drop 5% within me walking to my car from inside work. that was with the phone on the charger for atleast an hour past turning green.

there are just some oddities with the software and the battery on this phone, hopefully they will be fixed with an OTA update

yea, the only good news about this issue is that it seems to be software related and thus fixable via an update

But how did you know it was at 100%? From the settings menu, battery widget, or the green light? I'm just wondering if a lot of other people are simply going by the green light as the "100% mark" or not.

Also what voltage is your phone re.ding at the 100% mark? Is it 4.2 volts or so?

ok, I have been following and reading this thread from the start. I liked the idea of the original post, and have tried the method a few times (Charging w/power ON til Green 100%, then power off, charge til Green, then power on). I thought I would give the phone some time and wait until I have used it for a couple weeks (got it at launch), before chiming in.

Well something odd happened and I feel compelled to share it. Here it goes:
Wednesday I charged as mentioned above, unplugged it and stuck it in my pocket, then headed out to pick up my dog from getting a bath (at least 15min away). When I got there I looked at my phone to check the time and peak at Batt. usage... 100%. wow Eh? So, I go in get my dog, put her in my car, start the trip back....its gotta be at least 98% right?? Nope still 100%! About 10min into the drive back, I check while at a stop light, STILL 100%.... convinced its a glitch or hasn't updated Batt. data yet, so I check the stock HTC Battery Widget, 100% status: not charging. wow 100% at about 35min after unplugging from charger. Once I got home, I was convinced with all my Batt. checks it had to be at least in the 90's%. Yup, you see where i am going.... Still 100%.... eventually, I would say 20-30min later, it bumped down to 98%, after I kinda got scared that my Batt. was malfunctioning and used it heavily while at a buddy's house. it was about 1hr+ with my Battery reading 100%.....

This was with no Battery precautions taken. I had GPS on, Data Network on, 3G on, Notifications....

So needless to say, I am started to lean towards those people who agree the Battery is performing as expected.... after all, its a smart PHONE, not a smart BATTERY, right??

I would tend to agree with you. However people with after market batteries don't have this issue. I believe it's the circuitry in the battery itself. Who know, at this point I've given up on fixing it so with people reporting 20-24 hours on a 1750 battery with moderate usage I think that's where I'm going next.

And yes the voltage with green light, is 4.2xx read 100% when unplugged through the phone status and any widget or app you put on the phone. Within 10 minutes it drops to 90%......eck.

Battery life has been better with this trick but still not anything to be happy with, I was in the first couple of days of doing it, but since then I still only get 8-10 hours on the phone. Still better than 5 though right?!

I've had a hard time keeping up with the various threads. Is that REALLY the general consensus -- that moderate use on a 1750 battery will really give 20-24 hours?

If so, I guess I could expect at least 8 hours on heavy use -- might just go that route too, then.

Is the 1750 the stock battery? Cause if so then 8 hrs is DEFINATELY not what Im getting with even LIGHT use.
