Trouble with public wifi spots

Anyone else have this problem - without informing me, my phone will connect to a "guest" wifi connection such as a coffee shop or library where you have to open up a web page and accept terms and conditions to connect before being able to receive data. If this happens and I pull up an app like an RSS reader or weather application it appears that the phone is trying to pull the data over wifi and nothing will load until I either turn off wifi to force it through 3G or open the web browser to log into the wifi network.

You have a few options here:
Turn off wifi when not using it
When you find these spots, go into wifi settings, tap and hold on the network, then select block network notification. This is a per network block, obviously.
Uncheck Network Notification in advanced wifi settings, this should stop all open networks from being able to connect though I cannot currently test this
Download a network manager app from the Play Store and let it manage your connections for you. This may be disastrous or awesome. YMMV.

It may be the at&t wifi app. I have mine disabled, but I believe there is a setting there to automatically connect to open wifi hotspots. This was enabled by default.
