Twitter notification sound?

It's not just Android 6, Lollipop 5.1.1 is in the same boat.
Well in my view that makes twitter's failure to resolve the matter entirely inexcusable. Twitter has to have been hearing about this a lot for quite a while. I was guessing the problem may have had to do with API changes between 5 and 6 and adaptability. In any case, that's simply too long for an issue like this to linger on!

I agree, what makes it even more frustrating is that no matter how many attempts that are made to contact Twitter support they just never respond.

One would think that they would want to have the best company and the best-functioning software possible. They must have passed the too big to care point or something.

This is my first time on this site to give an answer but I have fixed the issue for myself regarding this.
The main issue as we know is the app won't let you change it from the default notification to one of the others in the list so I just went to the "Settings" app in my phone main menu. When in the "Sound and Vibration" option go down to "Notification sounds" and just change the default notification sound yourself and it will change the Twitter sound.

Obviously it would be a lot better if the Twitter app options just worked in the first place but I hope this helps.

p.s. Sorry if someone has already suggested this, I may have been lazy and not read all 100% of the other replies.

p.p.s. Let us know if that worked for you.

Regards
Johno 😎

Many thanks Johno, but as you thought this has indeed been mentioned previously.

I have the same problem on a brand new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I just tried turning on sounds altogether and I'll see if that works. I did a factor reset recently and the problem still persisted.

I have just upgraded from the Note 3 to the S7 edge. I can no longer change my twitter tone which is so annoying as now it makes the same noise as actual important stuff!
As far as I know this is android marshmallow so they have had more than enough time to fix this issue! The worst is that you can't even select the silent setting on twitter either.

Hey guys. I recently got my first ever Android phone some days ago. I set up a new launcher, all the settings and everything is fine. Except for Twitter. I went into Twitter > settings > my account > notification sound and selected the one I want, but every time I get notified, the "default notification" of the phone comes up that I set (basically the one for texts I think it is). Do I have to do it a different way or is Twitter's app problem? I already tried reinstalling it, still no solution. Thank you very much :)

In the twitter app.
1. Settings
2. Notification
3. Push Notifications
4. Ringtone
5. Hold whatever tone you want for 5 secs or until the bar is filled.
6. Click back
7. Click Ringtone again and see if changed

Leave comment if worked

The Twitter Application hasn't been working for the customised ringtone for quite some time.

Good News at last! Try with the latest twitter application for Android and you should find that the customised ringtone changes for when you go back and check, let me know if you find likewise.

I just did a test and couldn't believe it lol, took them about 2 years to fix.

Yes this works for making twitter stop using sounds and vibrations for notifications too. I had switched them off on my phone yet twitter ignored this as if I didnt exist!

I have a Nexus 6P and te problem started after the update form Andoid 7 to 8. Still can't change the ringtone....:'(

Found this fix as I was having the same issue changing the notification sound inside apps, you'll have to do it from Settings > Apps & notifications > See all X apps > (tap on desired app) > App notifications.

Under Categories, you'll need to choose which notification category to change the sound. For instance, if you want to change the ringtone when you receive new messages in Allo, you'll need to tap on the Messages category > Sound > (desired notification tone).

YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE NOTIFICATION TONE FROM INSIDE THE APP. At least not yet....

I'm able to change the notification sound on my twitter app, have done for awhile now.
