Unlimited Data is back

I have mixed feelings on this deal.
Up until last month, I was on the old 10GB promo plan for $80 - corp discount = 64.80, + 15 for line access. Pretty good deal and I normally use about 6GB, but I watch my streaming quite a bit to keep it there.
Last month, added two lines for my parents. They couldn't use 250mb between them if they tried, so it was a good deal at $15 per line.

So now this comes along. One line like I had would be $80 - basically where I was at, which would be a no brainer. However, the new plan would screw me because of the multiple lines. They up the data price from $65 to $110 if you are going to share it - that's BS. No other data package on Verizon has ever changed because it was shared - you just paid the data bucket price and then the line x number of lines you had.

So on the new plan, I'd go from 3 lines, 10gb @~$100, to $160.

If the other 2 lines on my account needed data, it wouldn't be bad - but they just don't.

I have a grandfathered UDP on a single line. Pay $140 a month all in with taxes. I live in NYC, and don't have wifi access at work, so I use more than 22GB of data a month.

Is there a reason why I wouldn't switch and save the $$?

Here's my question.

Like many others I have an UDP single plan. I am on contract till Nov. of this year. I am sure once I am off contract they will hit me with that 20/month fee for unlimited data (does that still exist?), I pay roughly 85/month after my corporate discount but have 400 minutes (I almost never use my minutes since I always to vzw - vzw). Is it even worth me considering this? Will I be hit with the fee in Nov and then this introductory rate will go away?

Is this introductory rate only temporary and then those who are on it will be billed the new higher rate?

It is the current rate for now.. There is no scheduled price increase But who knows Verizon can increase pricing at any time. And there are no more service contracts to lock in the lower rate at least for the duration of your service contract.

That's what I thought. Since there are no contracts, Verizon can get everyone on Unlimited Data now then raise the prices whenever they want.

I priced out Verizon and T-Mobile and based on Verizon online, ten lines on Verizon is $300, ten lines on T-Mobile one is $360, since Max online is 8 lines per plan. T-Mobile does include taxes and fees though so it depends on how much those are for you, but for me, i pay $3-4 per line for taxes and fees.

Until you hit 22g for the month. I go through that in a week. Not taking the bait.

It is still unlimited even at 22 GB. Only if the tower is congested will it throttle you down -- if it isn't or you swap towers then you're back to normal.

Don't change over. I am in the same situation and would be severely impacted in my ability to work once I hit the 22GB data throttling point. There is no way I could function on 3G data for 3 out of 4 weeks. Wait for a month and see what happens is my suggestion.

Again -- it isn't a hard throttle at 22 GB.

I don't think they'll do anything too underhanded anytime soon. After all, there was that recent report about the customer perception of the value Verizon offers being at its lowest in six years. I'm willing to bet that the unveiling of this plan was, at least in part, a reaction to that report.

Probably a mix of things... That report, them failing to meet expectations on certain things (while not horribly off but it was lower), customers flocking to cheaper carriers even if it was 480P video unlimited, etc. They just saw that people want to be able to use their data and not fear about overages -- or be paying for a family of 4 with a big data bucket of 30-40 GB to have enough.

For me though... I don't care why I am just happy they did it. I like unlimited and no caps (even if I am not using Verizon at the moment it is nice the option is there). :).

Oh how I love Verizon we have udp with all major carrier and now we can add new lines to a subaccount and finally get the 7 plus and s7 edge!!

Agreed, though the flip side is that if your devices are paid for you're not obligated to stay either. The issue for most would be if they're really giving up something special and can't go back. I suspect that in most cases they will make it miserable to keep an old plan forever anyway.

If you sign up for unlimited and want the $5 off for auto pay, be sure to set it up with a debit card or checking account. The terms and conditions specify you must use one of those methods. It does NOT list a credit card.

If they allowed tethering more allotment, I'd be tempted. Right now, I can tether 60 GB and they don't care. So I think I'll stay put.
