US release date could be July 12th!

I dont know what's worse. Waiting, or watching all these unboxing videos and reviews . I just want it lol.

I really think it's shipping tomorrow. All forums are crazy and half of what's on them is made up. There's no conspiracy, I'm sure it's shipping tomorrow

You would think so. Google said it would be two weeks from the date of announcement and we are in the second week.

Agreed. I'm the only person in my office that I know of excited about this release, and I work in IT! But that could also be due to the fact that I live on an island ...

I too work for an IT company and support about 400+ end users. Know one really know about this devices release and those who had an idea know of it as the "new Google tablet"...Nexus 7 is WAY over their heads.

But then again I work at a Medical Insurance Company...they are all old.

Just a tad bit. Ive heard some mainstream reporting on the N7, including a mention on the WSJ This morning radio show. But Ive heard nothing about dates other than here in this thread or on AC. When Apple releases a new product, its hard for the whole world to not know about the release or the specific date. All I am saying is, while we are excited about this, it will go unnoticed in the rest of the world.

I always find it weird that Google as an advertising company is horrible at marketing same thing happened with the original galaxy nexus

You would think that google... being a major search engin.. would advertise their new device right on the google search screen. Amazon puts there fire infront of you every chance they get.

I agree with you, but I dont think Google is interested in selling mass quantities. They've always sold the Nexus line as a reference/developer platform. I think its more to seed the developer community to move more overall Android devices to get more people to use more Google services. The GNex is priced pretty aggressively as is the N7, so I dont think Google's strategy is to sell a million devices, but more to spurn other development and show their vision as to what a device should/could look like.

I love how there are more theories about when the Nexus 7 when ship than who assassinated Kennedy :-[

I disagree an bit because I feel nexus 7 is supposed to be an consumption device,so wouldn't they want more people to get their hands on it?

Gotta agree with you there, but arent all tablets consumption devices? I could not imagine doing any real work on a tablet besides READING (and barely responding) to emails.

I think this more than other android tablet is an sole entertainment consumption device ,especially since they are pushing play store with $25 credit as soon as you log in for first time

I bought mine primarily for school.
It's much cheaper to get the e-books than physical textbooks which the school will give me a whopping 5% back when i sell it.
Hoping the nexus 7 will be good for reading. from what i hear though it should be :)
I have a laptop and desktop for everything else no need for lots of space or a 10" screen :)

They did advertise it on their search Site. That's how I found it.

Are most schools allow the ebook text book option? Are they substantially cheaper than their hardback siblings? I just called my oldest in college today to see if he wants my Galaxy Tab 7 plus when I get my Nexus 7. I figured he might be able to use it for text books, and maybe save old Dad some dough in the process.

They want you to consume yes, and they may one day go that direction. Right now however Google is content and not hardware. they want you embedded in the Play store but they don't seem to want to feed the dinosaur themselves at this point. Just like how AT&T stopped making telephones in the 80s but still loves for people to use their service.

I thin we may see this change in the future however. Right now we have three real content vendors; Amazon, Google, and Apple. Yes Barnes and Noble could be a fourth and perhaps Sony but...

Anyway will we get to the point where computers are like game consoles? Made and sold by one company at a loss to get you to buy software? I don't think it will get to that but times are going to make hardware profits a little more tricky.

The Nexus has been said by Google themselves as more of a guide to other vendors. They want to help solidify the platform for the betterment of Android.

Keep me posted on how the e-book texts work out. I assume they would be no different from textbooks though. Just a heads up, nook app does not support textbooks. It might have changed since I bought my nook, but the website can tell you for sure.

There is a website Browse for online textbooks by subject | CourseSmart, where you rent e text books and you can view them from any computer or tablet, as well as print and make notes, among other things. There is an android and an Ipad app with them as well. I calculated the cost of used books from my last two semesters compaird to renting them there and i would have saved almost $200.

Thank you very much for this info. I will pass it along to my son. Sorry to have taken this thread off topic.

I bet Google is trolling forums and checking on the general reaction from people!!! Office Depot delaying their release?? I wonder why...I ordered via Google Play and I am sticking with it.
