Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Prime) Waiting Room

Bingo. Everyone keeps complaining about the 4.6 inch screen. It's probably not bigger. It doesn't have buttons! You haven't even seen a leaked picture yet people...

Exactly, and you guys are assuming how navigation will work on this device. Truth is, we don't know how they're going to pull thisnoff if at all. For all we kmow the button aren't visible and a swipe up from the bottom of the screen up could bring up the buttons. Who knows. So with this leak I want to see some ICS, really that's what catching my eye.

I'm not sure how to square Phil's info (Sammy made and for vzw) with the latest indications of an LG device. The best I can do is go back to the original BGR report of multiple OEMs across carriers. Maybe the LG device gets dropped first (I'm guessing Sprint) and then the Sammy Nexus on vzw??? I would hope tho that there's not a delay for release on vzw!

I'll be honest, i don't see multiple OEMs happening. That would kind of go against the whole developer phone idea, wouldn't it? Unless they all used the same exact hardware but with different designs. I just can't see the advantage to that for anyone involved.

There's only going to be one Nexus device, but each OEM will be able to release their own flagships running the latest software. Same way it was done with Homeycomb tablets. I'm sure here is a LG device, but I strongly believe that Samsung is the head of the herd with having the Nexus branded phone.

I'm a Sprint user and If this is the Nexus used on all carriers then I'm not to sure about this one. I feel like I would HATE a 4.6 inch screen. I would want 4.3 at biggest. 4 inch on my Nexus S 4G is great. Beside that all looks well, if we see a Sprint version ;)
For the people that are having a hard time grasping a 4.6 inch screen on a phone, I decided to cut out a piece of paper to the exact dimensions of this display, and place it over my Thunderbolt to show how small of a difference it actually is.

There are lots of calculators online that can calculate the exact dimensions of a screen for you, I use this one...

DPI Calculator / PPI Calculator

You can't calculate length and width of a display with just the diagonal length unless you have the aspect ratio or resolution, fortunately we know that this display will mostly likely be 720p (or 720 wide by 1280 tall - in portrait mode that is), so we can easily calculate the exact dimensions of the screen. The cool thing about these calculators too is that if you know the diagonal length and the resolution you can also calculate the pixel density.

Also it's worth mentioning that when comparing displays on two different phones, even when the diagonal length is the same, if they have don't have the same aspect ratio they will have different dimensions, for example the Droid X and Droid X2 (both 4.3 inch) are 16:9 since the resolution is 480 x 854 (Droid X), and 540 x 960 (Droid X2), so those two displays have the same exact dimensions however the Thunderbolt, which is also 4.3 inch, is 5:3 (15:9 if you do the math) since the resolution is 480 x 800, meaning that when you compare the Droid X or X2 with the Thunderbolt you'll notice the display on the Droid X / X2 is actually a bit skinnier and longer (more rectangular) where as the Thunderbolt is a little bit wider and shorter (more square), although the difference isn't as dramatic as it sounds.

So, using the calculator we can find the exact dimensions of the Thunderbolt's display and compare it to the dimensions of the rumored Nexus Prime's display...

Thunderbolt - 4.3 inch, 480 x 800 = 2.21" (W) × 3.69" (H) - with 216.97 ppi

Nexus Prime - 4.6 inch, 720 x 1280 = 2.26" (W) × 4.01" (H) - with 319.26 ppi

So as you can see the difference in length (vertically in portrait) is about .32 inches (4.01 - 3.69) , and the difference in width (horizontally in portrait) is a mere .05 inches (2.26 - 2.21).

Here are the pictures...

With the first picture, I merged two photos with both screens aligned at the top left corner to show the difference in length and width of the screens...

Here I centered the paper more around the bezel to show how much room they could have and still keep the same form factor.

Sorry for the long post..

Personally, I've always wanted a phone with a 4.3"-4.5" screen. Both my Droid (3.7") and my Nexus S (4") feel tiny in my hands. Of course, I basically have the build of Shaq, only skinnier.

why is this thread moving so slow...i remember when i was reading about the Droid Incredible before it was released and that thread went super fast

I dont really know how most rumored phone forums work though, because that was the only other one i was ever on

As a Sprint customer myself with my Epic I first felt 4.3 was to big , I got my 4" Epic and was happy with it. After a year and getting my wife the EVO it doesn't feel that big to me. If this or the GSII on Sprint has the 4.6 Screen I would be happy. Its more about the size of the case itself. like posted 4.6 and 4.3 is not a big dif at all . It can fit into the same size phones we have now.

I don't even want something that size. The form factor of the last 2 Nexus phones is perfect.

Maybe true for you but playing some games on my Epic and then om my wife's Evo, there's a difference.
Having the extra real estate is great and for movies will be even better on the go.

But not everyone wants a brick in their pocket. I have always seen the Nexus as a sleek, well rounded phone, not one of the monster, square corner phones. I would love a bigger screen, but not at the expense of form factor. I went from an EVO to a Nexus S, and yeah, the screen is smaller, but the phone is so much nicer to hold.

This.

I've been playing with a Droid X lately and don't like how awkward and clunky it feels.

I do like my Epic. No offense meant. Just meant you can have the best of both worlds with a clean front screen and no buttons and a case that's thin and slick.

I just want a GOOD leak. One that can accurately tell me whether this phone is worth the wait.

Well, yeah, a good one would be nice. My point was that we can't have MORE leaks before we have the FIRST leak, lol
