Verizon: Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Order Thread

Update on Missing Sounds Settings on my Note 8

I was on the phone with tech support for an hour, because the area under settings where you can set your ring tone or notification sounds was actually missing. It was a black screen with nothing! The tech guy was really surprised and after doing everything possible(after he remotely tried to find it himself, and he wasn't happy with several things that my phone was not doing. So, of course I had to do a factory reset on my few hours old phone, that had only just been activated and that's it. I was told that sometimes the phones uhave been sitting on shelves for awhile and "these things just happen." I told them I was kind of wary about having to do a factory reset on a phone that didn't even have anything but the apps that came with the device itself. A note was attached to my issue in case this turns out to be a factory defect. I'm going to be watching closely for any further issues. I really hope not, because this phone is beautiful and It has all the capabilities that I want in a phone. Crossing fingers that this was just a fluke incident and it will go smoothly from here on out! Sorry if I posted this in the wrong space! I'm still new and trying to find my way around. Thank you for your understanding! ☺️

The local Verizon retail store that ordered my phone tells me that they now have it, but can't release it until their district manager authorizes it. They claim that they probably won't be able to release it to me until the 15th.

Tell that store to call Customer Service. That phone has been officially released by Verizon and they can confirm it.

I didn't pre-order as I was in waiting to see who had the best deal, then became too busy over the weekend. Once I heard people actually received their phone, and I saw, "Same day pickup" was available, I headed over to try to score. They let it slip they had them, but couldn't release them.

I have a cold, so I wasn't in any shape to put up a fight.

I just ordered online with 8 AM Next day delivery.

Let's see what happens!

One of the little info things that comes with the paperwork said to charge it to full before turning it on.
Oops...I don't read directions well I guess. Ha. I was pleasantly surprised when I turned mine on and it was 94% though

That's a precaution. I have been doing that my last few phones as I know the power needed to fully setup esp if there are pending updates.

This would actually worry me, depending on the manufacture date. If it's been sitting on a shelf for even a few weeks at a near full charge, I'd be concerned about degraded battery life already.

I don't know... Typically any new device I receive has battery in the 50%-80% range. Ran it down to about 30% before I went to sleep, screen was on for over 5 hours

Yeah, I would've expected them to show up at a normal storage charge level closer to 50%. Coming out of the factory at 94% would be abuse in my book for typical lithium batteries, and possibly worthy of a warranty claim since it's sealed. I know Samsung said these should be good for over two years. Unless they have some new tech to protect the batteries from the degradation caused by full (and along the same lines, empty) charge levels, I would be suspect of that claim.

Mine came at 77%, which from what I know from building my own lithium cells is almost perfect. I never sold or stored cells long term, but even short term storing between weekend use I'd still store at 75% depending on temperature.

Arriving at 94% is excellent. No phone that i've ever had arrrives at 100%. Im relieved to know that shelf life of a few weeks only drained 6%.

If the phone was fully charged from the factory, 6% is a lot to lose when on the shelf. Yes, the batteries do self discharge a little bit, but I would expect it to still be 100% unless it's already damaged. I've had my backup phone in storage charge for months on end with less if a loss than that. 1% or 2% at most.

But without knowing the initial charge level when it was boxed up, there's no way to tell how/why it got to 94% on delivery.

Man I'm really digging this phone. Only think I dislike is "LEARNING" it all over again. So I found the first think that is annoying to me tho lol
Who else has this advertising while it's on charge?
