Verizon Galaxy S5 : how is your battery life after upgrading to Lollipop?

Those of you with the Galaxy S5 and lollipop with battery issues, try deleting Facebook messenger. On my phone, it was using 70% of power workout me using it.

I'm having the nightmare... and just spent considerable time with Samsung Support. Do the factory reset... seems to be the solution for about 98% of the users having these issues according to them. I have some specialized software on mine I have to backup, etc. before I can do it, but will post an update sometime this weekend once I am able to do that.

Hi all. I was having battery life problems due to wifi scanning, connecting and disconnecting constantly. I was waking up in the morning to a hot and drained battery. I checked out the wifi issue and learned that if i disable the smart network switch in advanced wifi settings, the issue was resolved. Another piece of advice? Check out battery university.com. Everything you ever wanted to know about any kind of battery including lithium ion. A couple things i learned there was to turn off the phone while charging and maintain the charge at between the 50% and 80% levels. These two things will prolong battery life. It's all explained there if you have questions. Have a good night. Jim

That was a big drain on my phone too. I'm guessing that app hasn't been optimized yet.

65% percent battery usage by the system and the screen????

Do I really need to do a factory reset??

Ridiculous

Battery is running down in 7 hours...not the 14 it states on this screen

9-10 hours later, I can say I think this is resolved. WHAT A PITA!!! I used their Kies 3 to backup the system, but it does NOT work perfectly, there is still a lot of apps I had to reload, one at a time off 'my apps' list in the playstore. However once I did the factory data reset and started fresh, while it still runs warmer than it used too, it's not hot and I have not had any more 'warnings' about it running hot and the battery is lasting more like it did before. Good. I'm not convinced it's better, which is one of the things they were touting was a benefit of the V5 Lollipop update, but as long as it's not worse, I'm good. HOWEVER, the fact that I had to spend many, many hours of my Saturday fixing a problem from an update DOES NOT make me the slightest bit happy and I really don't see any 'upgrades' to my phone that I could not have gladly lived without to avoid this whole mess. Good luck people.

Did FR, ran battery to1% full charge and problems went away. Turned off those annoying Notifications, life is good.

After doing a factory reset yesterday I can say it made a HUGE difference for me. Battery life is now better than on lot kat it seems, and it performs so much better. I did a completely clean install, didn't do any backups or anything so I just started from scratch.

Same results for me. I kind of wished that I tried uninstalling Facebook messager first.

After trying battery pulls, cache wipes, etc. I did a factory reset this past weekend and the result is nothing short of greatness! Before the reset, I would wake at 5:30a and take the phone off the charger, and before 10a my phone would be dead. Yesterday I took the phone off the charger at 8a and used it until 10p without a charge! There is a God! :-)

My battery life is still good. Before Lollipop battery life was fantastic. I still only have to charge once a day. So, no complaints.

In actually doing better with 4.4 than with 4.2.

Anyone having serious drain should look at their apps. Apps like Facebook Messenger are ridiculously horrendous battery drainers. Delete that junk and youll quadruple battery life at a minimum.

I had to do it...a factory reset...:( Good part is it worked like a charm and I now have full 5.0 with MUCH better battery life than what I had before (even with an 8mo old battery).

I've ranted and raved just about everywhere I can find and I cannot believe I didn't make it to this thread! Since about 3 days into the 5.0 update I began having to change out my battery 3x a day, when before the Update if I used phone to text a TON that day, I might have to swap batteries if I were going out, or plug it in before bed. This is the absolute worst, but I guess you all know that. When I had my GS3, I bought an extra battery with a charger from Samsung, because I'd used the crap outta that phone, which I never wanted to let go of, but my hubby bought me the S5 for my Bday this past September. I didn't mind having to change it cuz I knew it was getting elderly and so I just did it. I also got myself an extra battery and charger with my S5, Just. In. Case. Truly not believing I'd ever need it, unless it was an emergency. UNTIL LOLLIPOP and THANK GOD I DID GET ONE.
I'm not a gamer, in fact I have it disabled, I don't text a ton, but I do listen to my music and take a ton of photos, but it was not dropping battery life before the upgrade, NOT 3X A DAY! I'm so angry that no one in the Android world has said anything about this, or Samsung, because I've noticed that not ALL phones are doing this since the update.
I've resorted to putting my phone on the regular Power Saving Mode all day and that helped a great deal. In fact a lot, but I cannot send or receive MMS messages which are mostly what I send in MMS, have to turn it off send, then back on.
It's daggone time somebody does something about the situation, just wait till AT&T & T-Mobile get theirs, here comes another round of complaints about batteries and much more!!!
P.S. I detest having to do a complete factory restore again and I'll be one of the lucky ones that it doesn't work on!

This is what worked for me. After updating to lollipop, Initially it ran like crap. So I wiped the cache. Then I resorted to a factory reset. This made things much better but the battery drained really fast. Was having to plug in at about 8hrs. Normally I can go a day or more without charging. I ended up Disabling Google + and uninstalling it's updates. Ever since doing this, everything is back to normal and even appears to be better than it was before. The attached photos are from before Disabling Google + and then after. What led me to my conclusion was the finding that the Android OS was the main drain. I tried Google + first since I don't use it. And it worked. Good luck. uploadfromtaptalk1424747740034.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424747754604.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424747768871.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424747777118.jpg
