Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

got the same thing in my email this morning.

my UDP line contracts ends next June... someone will probably find a loophole to extended it by another 2 years before the current expires? :D

What will be interesting is to see what happens to people's accounts if they try a loophole after November 15th. One way of interpreting that notification is that if you renew a 2 year contract after Nov 15, you are still going to get hit with the price increase.

Fingers crossed my alltel plan won't be affected.... My unlimited data isn't a separate charge, so not sure how they will increase it by $20

oh well... $20 is not that HUGE of a deal, compared to the benefits of keeping unlimited plan.
I'll start panicking if the following things happen:

(1) Verizon completely removes unlimited data for everybody (after contracts are out)

(2) Verizon moves to super fast 350mbps 5G network, but keep unlimited customers at the slow 4G LTE speeds

$20 is a lot less than what I spend for parking each day. Well.. not every single day.. .only when I miss the train and have to drive into the city and park in the garage next to my office. It's actually $35/day with no in/out.

I wouldn't even panic then .. You don't need even LTE speeds of today for a smartphone. If you're hot-spotting you could maybe use that bandwidth but normally you won't. I pull 50-100 Mbps all around town but if you go watch a movie you won't utilize that much.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm looking at a $40 increase since its my wife and I. While I'm not happy with the price increase, it's still a fantastic deal for my area.

I might do the Google Voice porting trick and drop the unlimited texting plan from Verizon. That would mean I face only a $10 per month increase.

How does Verizon send the price increase notice? I haven't received any email from them, and in my account there is no notice. Does this mean I won't be getting a price increase?

My unlimited line is still under contract, but I do see the pop-up notice when I logged in this afternoon. In addition, I also received an email from Verizon.

Both our lines are out of contract but I haven't received an email from Verizon and there wasn't any notice when I logged in this afternoon.

I checked my latest bill (dated Oct 12) there is no notice of price increase. I have another qn though - how often does Verizon verify employment discounts. I am no longer with the company thru which I was getting discounts, will they take it off soon? I'm not on contract.

Can I hope that due to employee discount I won't get a price increase?

Price increase notice will be in your November 12th bill effective as of your December 12th bill.

I have had employee discount nine years without re-verifying or submitting anything new. (Edit: I still work for the same company though)

Employee discount will not exempt you from increase.

I get 20% employee discount and I still got noticed that the $20 will be added, once my contract ends.

I don't know how often Verizon asks for verification. I've only gotten the verification request once in about 10 years. That was probably due to the last company(IBM) that I worked for going out of business.(technically, not out of business... but changed name to to merger and then being bought out by another company). Fortunately, my current company gets the same 20% discount on monthly bills and 25% off on accessories.

It's very simple. They just need to see a copy of your pay stub or employee ID or whatever document you have that shows you work for the company that has a discount deal with Verizon. I took a picture of my employee badge and uploaded to Verizon.

I guess they'll probably ask for verification in about 6 months because my current company was purchased by another company and will be merged into them soon.... with a new corporate name. I don't know why, EVERY company that I've ever worked for ended up merged or purchased by another company.

Verizon just reported that they made $4,040,000,000.00 in the last 3 months. They also said that less than 1% were still on UDP (1% would be at most 700,000 phones).

Just think of how much that extra $20/month will make them. In 2 years they will be able to make $4.080 billion per quarter instead of $4.040 billion.

When 3g came out prices and usage went up, with 4g prices increased and so did usage. I can see usage doubling in the two years following 5g's release.

Let's also note that Verizon isn't a non-profit and the people affected are not on contract.

I don't see 5G changing things much. At least not right away. The 4G LTE bandwidth is more than ample (even for streaming video). So until there's "something" that demands 5G, I don't see anything changing.

This is part of the article in the link on the second page of this tread about employee discounts.

My government plan is being affected, according to our association. I haven't been told the price is increasing, but after the first, if we change our plan, we lose our unlimited data.
