Very unhappy with fingerprint sensor

I've been using my note 10+ for about 4 days now and the fingerprint sensor is seriously disappointing! I've registered 2 of my fingers twice, so 4 prints in total to ensure it always gets a match. BUT it still says no match around 20% of the time or keeps saying press hard even though I'm literally crushing my finger to get it to unlock!! And this is especially unacceptable when I'm trying to pay with Samsung pay at a store and the phone refuses to unlock to allow me to pay!!
Samsung needs to fix this with a software update! I paid $1600 in Canada for this!!

you sound pretty angry at this point and I'll bet you're displaying that anger and force when trying to use the fps to unlock your phone, or maybe even when you registered those fingers. an angry press is going to be a hard flat press as opposed to the way I seen most successful folks get in with no problem.

try a quick light tap, not holding or pressing hard. it may not work, but whatever you're doing isn't either.

It's not me, it's the phone. Sometimes it will work flawlessly and other times it just won't, and there's no way I'm doing it wrong, I press at same place each time.

Maybe it is the device, if you are still within your return window maybe you should return it.

I am going to set it up just to see what everyone is saying. but I've never had one fps sensor work for me consistently from the Note 3 to the Note 8. if that's important then those with a bad one need to do something about it.

Didn't go through this entire forum, so I apologize if this is repeated, but has anyone noticed if sunlight effects the on screen fingerprint sensor? I was out today working in my garage and in my convertible and for the life of me I couldn't get the fingerprint sensor to work.

Light shouldn't matter for the type of fingerprint sensor on the Note 10. But if you have sweaty or moisture on your fingers that'll affect it.

Yes, I did keep in mind that sweat would throw if off but I wiped my hands off many times. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled and update accordingly.

we are dealing with first generation here. Let's go back to the note 4 FPS, that was a disaster for a lot, but they improved it over the years and I suspect the same will happen here. This is part of the game with first generation technology, even if it's on the almighty note series. I watched all the same complaints on this with the s10, there's nothing new here.

It works for me, is it as fast, probably not.. But really the speed difference is not going to be the end of the world.

That Note 4 FPS was a disaster of Godzilla proportions.

I have issues with mine every once in a while as well. Its definitely not as fast as I would like. I have always did my thumb twice on each side (even with previous phones).

I deleted my originals and redid them and it seems to work a little better but I also just went ahead and activated face ID and that is lightning quick.

I'm sure this won't be the last update to help with the fingerprint sensor so I am good with waiting it out for the time being.

Note 10 plus fingerprint reader sucks - I'm really sorry I bought a note 10 plus

I should have stayed with the Note 8 since it worked fine. The Note 10 seems to have lost its pressure sensitivity. I can't get into my phone fast anymore and have to try over and over again to get in then there are too many attempts and I have to wait and it keeps telling me to press harder I'm afraid I'm going to break the screen. Trying to think of other "benefits"from the Note 10... one is there's no coaxial earphone jack so you have to buy a dongle if you want to use wired earbuds. This 'upgrade' smells more like a bait and switch from a car salesman.

I switched for ever an so slightly minuscule-ly larger screen and a supposedly better battery life... but I never would have if I knew that it would be so frustrating just to unlock the damn phone. Caveat emptor! (which is impossible since you have to buy it in order to try it)

I was seriously considering boxing it back up and then I decided to remove the factory screen protector to see if that helped and it has gone from frustrating to usable. Samsung, in my opinion has always had the worst traditional FP sensors so I was very skeptical about how well their in-screen version would work. When I received the August security patch on day 2 and saw that improvements were made to the FP sensor as well I was pretty excited, but I didn't notice any improvement until I removed the screen protector. As others have mentioned Samsung really needs to add haptics to it.

I have my thumb print registered 3 times and I'm getting good results.

The only issue i get is user error when trying to remember where the fps is when waking the phone up from a blank screen. Lol.

I've registered my prints both direct on the fps and on its four corners so I'm not reliant on hitting the fps dead on.

I'm also very unhappy with the fingerprint sensor especially coming from the OnePlus 7 pro that works 99.99% of the time. I have several miss per day with this not 10.

Strange that people have issues with this. Mine is flawless. Every bit as good as the previous generation fingerprint scanners.

Just make sure to register the same thumb twice and if you feel its slow then go to developer options and turn off animations!

Same. On the S10 you could quick tap the screen to bring up the indicator so that you knew where to place your thumb but no such option seems to be available on the note 10 sadly , although its a minor issue to be fair
