What's going on with the battery life here?

* Battery currently at 2%
* 17+ hrs on
* 17+ hrs Bluetooth (Moto 360,seen in last screenshot)
* ~4 hr SOT
* 8+ hrs is wifi (so half wifi half LTE)
* cell signal between bad to ok
* sync on for all 6 email accounts
* whatsapp, hangouts
* Google Now on
* screen brightness some auto, most lowest setting
* avg drain 5.6%/hr
* don't have FB installed, but G+ is sync'd

Very impressive, the SOT is amazing, and all those things enabled! I just did some testing overnight, phone drained 8% over 8 hrs. Not too bad. Going to see how it plays out at work.

I noticed a big difference when I switched from "global" radios to the lte/CDMA setting. Could just be the area I'm in but I've heard other people have had good results switching the radio selection

Very helpful post from Shadowdancer over at xda forums. He said there are a lot of Motorola app updates that need to be installed, including a firmware update for the Motorola sensor. Search the word Motorola on Google play and update everything. More info in link below.

I just did all these steps, will report back if it improves battery life for me.

Unfortunately it didn't seem to make a big difference. Still draining quite a bit and I barely have any apps left on my phone. I'm at a loss here.

For your information guys, two days ago I installed PayPal app. Wake lock every 15 minutes,
Screen 21%
PayPal 19%
The Room (game played for 80 minutes) 14%
Rebooted, it started up again.
Removed it now, shockingly poor battery drain I used the previous version with no issues.
There are a few reviews appearing on Play concerning this.

Thanks Krolt, very helpful. PayPal was one of the apps I had on and have since removed in testing for today - will be interesting to see if this helps. However, were you able to see that PayPal was the offender in battery settings / GSam?

Also, I had a similar issue with the Weather Channel app - it kepts querying GPS even when off, drained a lot.

yes it was showing under the screen, that's how I spotted it. I was impressed with battery coming from a tired Nexus 4.
But my awake bar is now black, with Paypal it had a slim line every 2 millimeters (sorry for the bad description!)

I've had the Moto X 2014 for about a week now. I also noticed very bad battery life. For me the issue was linked to Location settings - especially Google Now. after adjusting, I am getting acceptable (not great) battery life.

Though I am getting as ChillyMutt put it "acceptable (not great) battery life". GSam gives my averages as 16hr 16min Battery Life with 1hr 33min Screen on (though 5hr and 30min active - and GSam doesn't tell me any more than Android System and Kernel (Android OS) are the big users).

That's exactly the same boat I'm in. Acceptable, not great. Android OS and System draining a lot. And frankly my screen use (less than 50% max brightness!) seems to destroy battery life.

That's 1.15 of SOT btw. This battery life just plain sucks. My 3 year old HTC One X does better and the battery is 3 years old.

The Moto X I returned would crash every day or two -- screen would go dark and I had to hard re-boot -- and I had the same vertical lines in my battery report, plus the report would show a sharp drop in remaining post-crash power. Based on that battery report and power drop I concluded that this might be an electrical/hardware issue and returned the phone while still in my 14-day window.

Good to hear. Your report didn't show a steep power drop like my experience. My phone was smooth and fast other than the crashes, and after flirting with buying the Turbo I'm probably going to re-order an X. Just don't want to see this problem cropping up elsewhere.

What do you have your brightness set to? If it's automatic, are you using it in an environment where it needs to pump the brightness up?

Nope, I have it set to about 40% of max. No automatic brightness.
