when connected to a WIFI my Samsung S5 won't recieve e-mails or update weather, what can i do?

It seems as when I'm connected to a WiFi I have no data service. I recently uninstalled the apps I did not think I needed and were running in the background. I did not uninstall any android app but I'm wondering if there was something I missed.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you sure the wi-fi network you're connecting to is actually connected to the web? Or could there be some login screen you have to go to first before you're connected? Does this happen on your wi-fi at home?
