Where's Froyo for the Fascinate?

People, come off it already. It is not completly Samsung's fault that we do not have Froyo on our Fascinate's yet. They have long since provided the update to Verizon and it is them (Verizon) who are dragging their heels on this. The update will get here when it get's here.

I'd agree with you but all the Galaxy phones are behind. Maybe it's not Verizon, but all US carriers. Not to mention the mysterious DJ05 that's floating around. Maybe Samsung built all their code around 2.1 and are now having a hard time getting 2.2 to work on all the proprietary code they put on there. Obviously 2.3 runs on the Nexus S, so it's not their hardware. Logic says it's their code.

Froyo now available for all Samsung Galaxy S phones in the UK | Android Central

Seems at least one part of the globe is taken care of. So yes, definitely seems like a US (and maybe Canada) carrier issue

ok peeps, i want froyo too, like stated earlier, probably just because i dont have it. but i just traded my droid x running 2.2, for this samsung fascinate running 2.1 , and i dont miss it at all! 2.2 is overhyped as all major updates are. sure adobe flash is nice, but let me tell you what come with flash, tons of load lag!!! instead of a page loading in 5-8 sec, it will take 15-20 sec... and i dont know many people who care about app2sd. so just be glad you have probably the best phone on the market, and definately the best phone big red offers right now. and i have had the htc incredible, droid 1, and droid x... samsung gets the crown... they make an awesome product!!!

Samsung response about froyo

Here's my correspondence with Samsung.

My note:

Not sure if anyone will read this but waiting on the software update for this phone has been quite a pain. The Fascinate is a great phone with great hardware and it's a shame it's (USA) users aren't allowed to fully experience it. My wife bought the phone a few months ago just after mostly all of the other Android phones had 2.2 with the reasonable assumption that Samsung would get it soon. I understand the challenges involved with pushing out an update world-wide but HTC and Motorola have figured it out pretty well. Unfortunately the message Samsung is sending is that if you want a phone that's fully supported, look elsewhere. It's really a shame too since the Galaxy series has such great potential. By the time 2.2 is out, I'm sure my HTC Incredible will have 2.3. I'd just like to suggest putting a higher priority on updating your phones. The next time we look for a phone (or any of your customers) I'm sure this issue will be in the back of their minds

Their reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision with this feature might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion. Should this be available, it will be posted in our website or you will be informed by your service provider. Please feel free to check with us periodically for updates Thank you for your continued interest in Samsung products.
Sincerely,
Technical Support,
Jen

Typical set response from basically any OEM. Notice how it doesn't address anything you said? They have a format they go by. Not knocking Samsung specifically, they all do this.

That's not a very professional email to send them, plus some of your information is false. No wonder you the the response you did.

He got the response he did because that's how companies respond to questions they can't or don't want to answer.

I know someone who works for Verizon and he said that Froyo is not being released to the Fascinate. They are waiting until next year and then release Gingerbread.

I have had my Fascinate since the day it came out. I have not had any major problems with it. Yeah, the GPS sometimes takes 5-10 minutes to lock on, but overall, it is a great phone. Hearing some of the problems with 2.2 on some of the Galaxy S phones, I think I'm okay with waiting for 2.3. I would rather see that the updates are stable and reliable that have something pushed out just to get it out.

i work for verizon and have heard nothing about gingerbread, let alone when we're getting froyo

Well I updated via Kies, Samsungs official software. I lost more than I gained. I am told the flash did not update correctly etc. Samsung does not provide as stand alone update file to update your providers phone (Telus for me). I cannot re-flash the update and have not choice but to return it and get another one. I am not the only one with this problem I hear. I think I will ignore the popup in Kies about firmware update. Maybe they'll patch it in a month or two.

I have had other smart phones and all had stand alone files for the carriers to do the update.

If you're ok with the phone now I would wait and hold off if you can. There does not seem to be much the update offers for the average user other than a pain in the back side!!!

I cannot voice dial with bluetooth, volume default is too low and it does remember the manually set level. Also it does not ask if the command or person it interpreted is correct. I just dials straight to whom ever if thinks you said! Usually the wrong contact and you cannot voice cancel the call either. Both the LG Shine Plus & HTC Desire handle this properly and request confirmation before proceeding. But not this Fascinate with 2.2.

i have heard the same thing from more than one verizon employee. the only people at verizon that know when any thing is happening are the people in charge, and sometimes i doubt that. one of the verizon employees is a friend and he said they dont know when new phones or updates come out ant more than any one else. then he told me he gets all his info from this great site called android central!!!

Some do have some inside information, whether or not they're willing to share it is different. Others also are the victims of misinformation, share it, and then just add to the rumor mill. Then you get some that know they don't know what they're talking about, and still talk out where the sun don't shine :)

You should see the email that Adrynalyne over at XDA received from Verizon in reply to an email he sent them. Interesting stuff.

Google announced Froyo when? May 2010 maybe? I think there's been more than enough time for Samsung to get it "stable and reliable" by now ...
