Where's Froyo for the Fascinate?

You should see the email that Adrynalyne over at XDA received from Verizon in reply to an email he sent them. Interesting stuff.

I just went over to XDA and looked for this thread/post. The only thing I see is where Adrynalyne says he's trying to get Verizon to admit they're not releasing an update. Doesn't look like he has received much of a response at all.

(Am I looking at the right thing?)

I actually feel kind of bad for the reps on stuff like this --they have to deal with the crap flying at them from irate consumers AND dissembling companies. Tough job. It's not as if some CSR is sitting on the update...I think...

Unless a rep is giving you a complete attitude and unreasonable, people often forget it's not on the reps' shoulders when and/or if a phone will receive an update. Working retail for quite a few years up until recently, I often can feel their pain when they have to deal with an overly irate customer.

HAPPY NEW YEAR. Maybe we'll see froyo in 2011. They
should've just kept their mouth shut and shouldn't have promised it in Sept, then Oct, Nov and finally the end of December. I wonder if the folks in Canada are enjoying froyo.

Looking like yet another release date (or time frame) blows by in the wind. Here's to too hoping 2011 brings more for us. Have a great new year everyone and be safe.

Ugh! I feel like a battered spouse. Verizon & Samsung couldn't be the worst possible combination when it comes to updating their devices. Yet I fall for their broken promises time & time again.

Happy New Year!

I bought my Fascinate in Nov with the assumption that it would get upgraded to froyo by the end of the year. Oh its only got 2.1 but hey 2.2 will be here soon so all will be good, go ahead and buy it.
Yeah it sucks they lied and you feel like a jilted lover.
As many have said 2.2 is not a huge improvement and after hanging in this forum, I have learned to root and install stupidfast kernal and new roms.
My phone runs pretty good without 2.2 dammit. ;}

I just got off the phone with customer service at samsung and of course she had no information for me about froyo of samsung media hub besides the are "coming soon"... I kept asking soon as in a few days/weeks or a few months and she kept saying that is all the information I have for you. I asked her and then she confirmed that she wasn't going to give me any other information about this matter. Do not call them it is a waste of your time... i feel like i talked to myself the whole 30 min i was on the phone so i guess we are stuck waiting for maybe a few more months.... I also wrote them an e-mail at the beginning of last week and haven't heard anything back from samsung regarding my e-mail about this. The only thing we can do is wait feeling shafted by big red and its cousin sam. They have both shown atrocious customer support for the galaxy S devices and their current customers. I feel like i'm on my storm 1 waiting for an update, and i feel like rooting is riskier than uploading lyricidal's newest hybrids like i did with the storm, so i will be unpatiently and angrily waiting like the most of u. Is there any way we can form a lawsuit on samsung/verizon for false advertisement in some way being that the other day their site said 2.2 and they have been strongly leading us on about this update being in the near future since september... I know that I would not have bought the phone if froyo wasn't coming for it, although I must say it is a great phone, maybe verizon's best even with 2.1.

Samsung is now planning on a new device called the Galaxy Player which is pretty much a Fascinate minus the ability to make calls. The device is supposed to come with froyo. Ill be really mad if the device gets it before we do.

the galaxy tab is pretty much a giant fascinate and its been rockin 2.2 from day 1 so this would not be a surprise... I really wonder why there is no update love being shown towards the fascinate....?

Maybe we should focus our energy towards Verizon. It's obvious this has a lot do with them. One would think that if enough customers rise against all the crap they put on the devices they would be forced to listen. Logic is telling me that Verizon is the reason for the delay, seeing other Samsung devices supporting froyo. I don't know, just my thought.

I have been a VZW mobile customer, and before that a BAM mobile customer, and before that a NYNEX mobile customer, for a little over 21 years. Seriously, my contract can not only drive and vote, it can drink legally. When my contract was up for renewal this year, I came this >||< close to switching.

I'm done being fooled, and treated like a fool, by VZW. Never again. :(

I blame both Verizon and Samsung. But I'm pretty patience so I'll still around for a while. I hate how carriers puts so much bloatware on their phones. Here's a interesting article about how South Korean carriers are reluctant on picking up the Nexus S because they want to load it up with their own apps.
Is Nexus S doomed?

So far I'm happy running Blackhole 2.4 and JT's non-voodoo kernel.

I'm aware of the irony in this, but man these companies ruin everything they touch. Seriously, what has any carrier added to a phone which has improved it? Sense is about the only thing I can think of.

The whole reason they do it is because they want something to distinguish their phones, but I can think of better ways of doing that than using crappy software. Verizon has done it pretty well with the Droid branding, but they still add they're crapware VZ navigator and everything.

Happy New Year and where the f is Froyo. C'Mon Samsung lets not hear another false release date...

Working in the industry and having owned or carried every Verizon Android handset, the Fascinate is still my favorite and my daily driver.

DJ05 with Backhole 2.4, Geeknik's kernel and a faux Gingerbread theme makes this phone pretty much perfect.

It's not just the Fascinate, but all U.S. based Galaxy S phones. The problem IMO isn't the carriers so much as it is that TouchWiz is a badly designed skin and takes a lot of work to update.

There is no doubt in my mind that the hang up is with the US carriers not with Samsung. They are no doubt busy tweaking Froyo so that it locks down features that the carrier charges for like teathering and installing new default apps like blockbuster and bing which can not be removed by the user.
