I can wait.
You gotta admit this is a dam good piece of hardware. :)

Agreed.

I do hope that when Froyo is relased for the VZW Fascinate, that people will enjoy and not immedialy demand gingerbread (eventhough the Galaxy S2 is the only one that has it so far).

The second Froyo is released I think someone will create a "where's gingerbread" thread. Well, maybe right after they create a "Froyo broke my...." thread.

Has anyone else read this explanation for no froyo? Long story short Samsung is the only company that charges carriers for os updates and US carriers aren't paying.

Anyone remember this from early October:

"The Samsung Labs in Korea have finished testing the update to the Samsung Galaxy S phones to Android 2.2 Froyo. A leaked email in Korean apparently confirms that Samsung is done testing Android 2.2 and that the Korean binaries will be released this week. Binaries are the code that makes the software work."

and this update mid October:

"Update 10/20/10 - Although there was update in Europe, the Samsung USA Twitter page confirmed that U.S. Samsung Galaxy S users will get an update this year and U.K. users in November."

How about does anyone own the docks that the audio out does not work but will when 2.2 is released.

How many purchased the Galaxy S phone and were told by the Rep selling the phone that 2.2 was launching soon.

That all took place in 2010, it is now mid January 2011. Anyone who is complaining about not having 2.2 are completely justified.

I personally do not care if the Fascinate ever gets 2.3, all I want is what I was told I would have and accessories that work 100% when you pay full price for them. It is not like they sold the docking stations and knocked of 10 dollars because audio out did not work.

The problem with this story is that details like that are undoubtedly nailed down in contracts *before* Verizon would have placed the first order for phones from Samsung. There's just no way something with the potential to be so costly would have been left ambiguous. It's just really hard to believe.

And the source of this story is some anonymous poster on some message board.

The level of misinformation on the web today, both deliberate and assumed, is truly astounding. I used to think it was more of an Apple thing, but it's pretty clearly here as well.

It's more plausible than the "hwithholding to increase sales of future hw" theory, but my vote is still on the bloatware is causing issues.

(I mean the regional US carriers are getting Froyo, and I would think they would have more incentive for refusing to pay than the Big 4 [less overall capital])

The problem here is that Snopes doesn't weigh in on these stories.

Please don't consider for one minute that this could be true. Its absolutely ridiculous.

I usually go by Hanlon's Razor ("Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.") But in this case, the fact that all four US carriers have basically no confirmed date or even leaks on Froyo for the Galaxy S line points to one common denominator: Samsung. This puts me in the believer category on this one. Not that it matters to Verizon or Samsung what a bunch of dorks who *already* bought their phones think, but I wanted to share it anyway.

Except there are more than 4 US carriers, and most if not all of them have update release announcements with dates.

Except all the dates are "around march" or "in a few weeks" or "by the end of the year". Verizon has/had a date too... We know how believable these kinds of "dates" are by now. And by "more than 4" I assume you mean US Cellular? Oops, forgot about them (snicker).

lol... well sprint had a release date for froyo for the epic 4g also... Dec 26th. as of today I don't believe they actually have their update

Exactly. Until I see a blood oath to release froyo on an exact date, I am not going to believe anything any carrier says about it. And Samsung, they would never pick a date even if it averted the Apocalypse, so i don't even worry about hearing news from them.

Samsung has released froyo to Verizon. It is not Samsung that is holding up the release but Verizon.

Cool new app with flash games and what not, but we can't use it. AWESOME TIMES 1000...

grrr...the application development is really the only thing that is pissing me off about not having froyo....grrrrr

Biggest thing I hate about android. Fragmentation of the operating systems. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

Epic. And the other carriers are holding their releases too... The ones who have had galaxy s phones on the market months longer? And verizon, for all their faults, still managed to drop froyo for the d1, d2, dx, and dinc? It just doesn't add up.
