Where's Froyo for the Fascinate?

I read that the new 4G Samsung device is coming out end of February. Pretty sure that one will be running 2.2 out of the box. If that's the case, are the two devices really so different that VZW/Samsung can't have 2.2 ready for the Fascinate by then as well?

Beginning to wonder that myself. But I think at this point I'd even take a passing thought if someone told me we don't have Froyo because the sky isn't blue enough.

:p

They're probably holding it so that the new one (which will come out with 2.2) can be differentiated..

People, come on. We have really gone off the rails here with our speculation. 90% of the people looking at cell phones don't even know what 'Froyo' means. Have you ever seen Verizon (or any other carrier) ever use the Android version as a marketing tool? The bullet here is 4G -- millions of dollars have been spent getting the public aware that 4G is the best thing since toilet paper. Its the next "iPhone" tag; people will be walking into the stores saying they want "4G! 4G! 4G!"

There's obviously some reason that we don't have 2.2 yet, but its not because they want to boost 4G phone sales, or because Samsung is holding it for ransom, or because aliens created the Fascinate and we can't contact them for the source code. Eventually we'll get the update, and maybe someday we'll know the real reason that it took so long.

How in the world are you going to say you don't know what the reason is and yet turn around and say our speculation is wrong? You don't know. It is true, we're speculating but, don't come down on people who want to discuss and speculate as to the very probable reasons why its happening.

If I were a Vibrant owner that would really piss me off, even as a Fascinate owner it does some.

I have a co-worker who is currently running froyo on his fascinate. He is on xda quite a bit and there is somebody working hard on a stable build. The build he has still has some shortcomings (no bluetooth support and glitches with phone calls) but it looks like froyo is just around the corner either way!

I saw files for the i500. There are 3 files. One is the DL09 kernel update. I am not sure what the other 2 are. I wish they had post dates.

How about if our phone can support an new version of the android OS, we can opt to pay a small fee to upgrade to a vanilla version? Why won't they do something like this?

I would pay $5 dollars for FroYo and Gingerbread. If my phone can handle it, why not?

Or, you can wait for your one OS upgrade from the carriers if you choose, which will be for free.

OOPS! While we all have been blaming samsung for the lack of froyo update PC MAGS article states that T Mobiles CMO stated that samsung released the froyo 2.2 update to carriers in Nov. As promised. So its the carriers fault we dont have Froyo. Let me say, "sorry samsung". Now that I got that off my chest...... Hey Verizon, where is my Froyo update? P.S. How could you release froyo fo lg ally ahead of fascinate when uve had froyo for fascinate for 3 months. Sorry if that offends anyone.
