Why do people buy Samsung Galaxy Phones?

Hmm, Business Insider, Engadget, Cnet, several members here, tons of users on youtube and many other venues seem to disagree. Perhaps you just have an exceptionally easy to read fingerprint or something.

Perhaps.

Let me revise my opine. While the fingerprint scanner seems to work fine for me it does not seem to work quite as well as the one on either of my former iPhone 5S'. This, I believe, is because of the need to "swipe" my finger straight down across the fp scanner.

No, they didn't. They got that big by releasing the first high end Android smartphone that was available on pretty much every major carrier in the world and sticking to a brand that, after that point, everyone knew as a household name. Honestly, do you feel that any other OEM has a specific phone that's become a household name? Nokia understands the necessity of this with the Lumia series but it's somewhat small. LG kinda went there with the Optimus series but that's mostly gone. HTC... I don't know where half of their names come from. Samsung has brand recognition from when they put Android on the map, they have specs that they can brag about and they have gimmicks by the ton.

The first part isn't entirely true, Samsung was already a major player in other consumer electronics and that enabled them to translate that already existing mind share into smartphone sales when they entered that market. Samsung didn't build their brand recognition initially from mobile devices

The part that cracked me up is that I took my cousin's phone, swiped my fingerprint across it and it worked.

They had several smartphones prior that mostly got laughed out in favor of Motorola and HTC's offerings.

Haha, I wouldn't be shocked with most of my family to be honest. I'm a software engineer born of a bunch of hillbillies and cowboys.

Hey the Dallas Cowboys are from Texas so, obviously, Texas and Texans are awesome.

My post said Sam's mindshare in electronics predates smartphones.

If that were the case in this specific situation though, why were their earlier smartphones total flops. I believe the most successful smartphone they had prior to the Galaxy series was the blackjack 2 and that was kinda laughable.

ELECTRONICS not smartphone. They have been a known brand name in TVs, washer machines, dryers refrigerators, etc. for years.

I'm aware. So if their name in electronics carried so much weight, why was the Galaxy S the first one that was worth mention?

It was the first modern Android device. It didn't suck in other words.

Exactly! It was the first Android Phone where they stepped away from the classic WinMo form factor and introduced something more modern. In a lot of ways it drew ideas from the iPhone and it executed it well because it was available everywhere and cheaper than the iPhone.

It actually didn't draw that much from the iPhone besides some similarities in software. It was cheaper had larger availability and had a micro SD card and removable battery something the iPhone didn't have.

In looks, it was pretty much of a flat-out copy of the iPhone.
