Will you keep or return/sell your G4?

Will you be keeping your G4 or returning/selling it?

The g4 and trying other flagship this year almost made me give up on Android but I'm happy say that the Sony z3 has given me a new hope.. It's an amazing phone

After smashing my Z3 the bits (unintentionally, I may add...) 10 days ago, got the G4. Pretty pleased so far. Screen is good, but wouldn't say the noticeable difference between this and the Z3's 1080p is anything to write home about. Pretty smooth, but get a bit of lag, particularly when send an SMS, oddly - I sometimes get a small stutter before what I've sent joins the conversation. I have a gel case, but can definitely sympathise with the heating issues. I can often feel it through the case when watching video or gaming. Can imagine it's uncomfortable without one. Camera is amazing, and the battery life is very good thus far. I've also bought one of the battery charger/packs, so I can bash away at it and always keep juiced-up. Lowest I've got to thus far is to 22%, having been off the charger for 16.5 hrs. Usually it's nearer 35%. No doubt using the camera/video at a wedding or event will kill it super quick though, so nice to have a back-up

Overall, pleased. There's room for improvement, but I was a little concerned coming form the Z3, as I loved that phone, but needed a new phone quick, and, flagship wise, it was my only option (the S6 was a huge no-no due to the sealed battery and it's notorious battery life).

I gave it to my Brother-in-law to test for me in a real world situation. We setup his work accounts and he'll be using it for a while. Since it wouldn't work with VZW (I had the International Version) I couldn't ever stress it enough to decide who well or not well it worked. Also, wifey said I couldn't keep the AT&T GoPhone active because of the additional unneeded $45 per month. So, I answered Sheep because I'm still using my iPhone 6 Plus as my daily driver. :D

Keeping it until the new Moto X at least. I'll make the sell or not decision then. I really like this phone, but I definitely miss active notifications. Though I don't miss the AMOLED screen after seeing this one.

I had the Turbo for a while and my first dealings with active notifications - a feature I really liked and now miss.

What carrier is your brother in law going to be using it with? Let him know if he has any issues with data especially LTE, he needs to change the APN settings for his carrier.

APN already set for AT&T. It's working well for him so far.

I brought mine back to Best Buy tonight, due to heating issues, battery-life concerns, and slow charging (once actually discharging with the screen off, on the charger, overnight).

They would not let me exchange it *and* renew the 14-day return period. So if I exchanged it, I'd only have 2 days left on my 14, to evaluate the replacement. That's not enough time for me to feel comfortable that the replacement is OK.

So I had to return it instead. The guy told me the $100-off promotion is good through Saturday, if I want to re-buy. You can re-buy a day after returning, that's the only way to get a new 14-day return period.

I'm undecided whether I'll re-buy later this week, or if I'll wait a month or whatever, and see how things develop. The only reason I'd re-buy this week, vs waiting, is the $100-off promotion. But maybe they'll have a sale again later.

I'm tempted to wait, and see what happens. If after a month, many people are overheating and seeing short battery life, then that's no good. But if the heat & battery are from a software glitch, or whatever, and a patch fixes that, speeds up charging, and improves the touchscreen sensitivity, then I'm in.

I will admit to being a bit concerned about the Qualcomm 808. If the 810 was too hot, and that drove the 808 selection, do we know that the 808 really does run "cool enough"? I believe the G4 is the first phone on the market to use the 808. Perhaps the 808 still runs fairly hot, just less than the 810.

The promotion runs until July 4. They keep putting it in the ad every week which is probably why he said it ends Saturday.

No doubt I'm keeping it. Does the auto brightness suck? Yes but I'm happy with it at 89% except in the middle of the night when I can't sleep. The tap security didn't work well but there are other options that are not a problem for me. I haven't had any lag issues. I tried my finger to see if it effected wi-fi or cell signal and it didn't. I also haven't had and screen swiping issues. I wonder if some of those are screen saver related. I do miss wireless charging but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I love the size, screen, camera and leather back. That trumps the few minuses for me.

Sending mine back in the morning. Mostly because Phil asked for it back for [redacted], lol. But after 4 days as my primary, I went back to the Moto X. Camera was nice, but there were a lot of little things that just added up for me.

I probably shouldn't read this thread when my G4 is on its way.

Thanks guys...

(If anyone's asking, it's probably the H815 since I'm getting an international unlocked unit)

Its a balancing act as all devices will have issue's.

Example i have had 15 phones over 3 years and on every device forum all have had reported extreme lag issue's (seems lag isn't going away just yet eh lol).

Not going to deny the existence or i haven't experienced, however on all devices i have owned i have never returned due to this extreme lag (lucky i guess).

You just have to look around get a balanced view but never ever be turned away from a device solely based on forum comments.

I could write the G4 gets so hot it literally melts, or that the screen is horrid and just a very poor example for a high end device.

Its so easy to type and whilst I'm not disputing any issue (how are we to know how accurate and widespread said issue's are.

We would need statistics and video evidence and for this to be continued over a period of time to warrant this device suck comments (what i mean and will elaborate) often when people comment as such they do it in a way that all G4's in this instance suffer the same and we should all be seeing and experiencing what they are.

Keep it balanced and read from a few sources, if you have friends with any device ask them, get hands on.

Even then in tech there are duds s happens but don't be put off by reading just the negative posts, read the positives to 😀

I'm keeping mine until I see the next big thing come down the pipe. That being said, every device is going to have pros and cons and won't be perfect in any way. Everyone has different needs and wants with a phone - simply go with the best device that suits your needs whether it's a G4, S6 or even an Iturd (:D).

I love mine SO FAR...there are probably a ton of users that aren't posting that love the phone. Hopefully none of the issues plague me and I keep it for years (I hate changing phones, I keep 'em until they drop). I would have any pre-remorse if I were you.

Same here. I'm remaining optimistic that I will receive a good unit and not a defective one.

All phones have their flaws. No phone is perfect. There are a ton of G4 users out there who love their phones and they most likely outweigh the amount who have issues by a pretty huge margin. It just feels like the G4 might be problematic because of the very nature of this thread. The Galaxy S6 also has its own share of issues.

Fingers crossed that mine will work for years without an RMA. :D

This is exactly why I still use my iPhone 6 Plus. The built-in Android Lag is too much for me at times. It'd be nice if they actually fixed this in an update, but so far they haven't.

I've never had an issue with iPhones lagging, but I always buy the most expensive with the largest amount of memory. I have heard of others who bought the 16GB model experiencing lag.

In my case, I have had issues with every Android phone I've ever owned lagging. Most of the time I can ignore it, but once the phone gets a year under it's belt, the lag is incredible and unavoidable. In contrast, I had the iPhone 5 for a year and it never lagged.

I really don't want to get into the whole iPhone vs Android debate because it can't be won, but when it comes to lag, yes, Android still needs to work on that part. Also, I do think iPhones lag if you get the cheaper models.
