Well, here is just one more example of how the Rezound is undervalued and ignored.

I could not figure out why there were Verizon customers who were getting these emergency alerts through the government and I wasn't.

Here are the phones that do get the alerts. No surprise that EVERY Motorola phone is on the list. BLAH!!

Capable devices include:

?Droid X by Motorola
?Droid 2? by Motorola
?Droid 2 Global
?Droid Pro by Motorola
?Droid RAZR by Motorola
?Droid RAZR MAXX by Motorola
?Motorola Bionic LTE by Motorola
?LG Cosmos? 2
?LG Revere?
?LG Enlighten?
?Lucid? by LG
?Verizon Jest 2
?Samsung Convoy? 2

I just came across this setting a few hours ago on my Rezound but the rom is dinc4g based I believe

From my XxX rated Rezound

I'm running the leaked ics and I have been getting the alerts

So then do you think if we finally ever get ICS OTA that the alerts will be available to all Rezound owners? I just don't think I am phone techie enough to install a leak ... though I am close to just trying it!

I remember reading somewhere that Verizon what's two things, global phone capabilities and emergency alerting. The only way the Rezound can have either of these is with the ICS update. Some of the moto's you listed did not have either of these until they received the ICS ota. So we will see if Verizon wants the Rezound to have these capabilities. Hopefully we see the update by the end of the month.

My mom has the Droid Pro and it does not have ICS but it has the emergency alerts.

I tweeted to Verizon and was told it was HTC that did not make the phone emergency alert capable. Hopefully an one day ICS update will change that for the Rezound.

What alerts are you folks referring to??

Weather emergencies and national emergencies.

Why has Verizon ignored the Rezound so much?? It was the same with my Incredible....Verizon just ignored it even though it was one of best phones out.

I just don't get it....

I believe it is a FEMA program where severe weather and presidential alerts are automatically sent out through free text messages.

I don't think the Rezound needs a full upgrade to ICS to gain the emergency alert capability. My wife's Rhyme received a minor OTA in April that included giving the phone emergency alert functionality. It is still on Gingerbread after the April Update.

If they can do this for the Rhyme as a minor update to Gingerbread, they can probably do the same for the Rezound.

Furthermore, it means that both of these phones already have the hardware needed to use the EA system. It is just a matter of enabling it in software. That can be done with a update or fix to the current OS. They just chose to do it with a minor update in the Rhyme, and, apparently are waiting until they release the full ICS upgrade for the Rezound.

Where did you go to enable the feature?

Nevermind ... found it in Messages (Menu > settings...)

Mine just got one of these alerts. Freaked me out. Was making this emergency alarm sound in my pocket! I had no idea this capability existed (therefore, I didn't turn it on). This was for a flash flood warning today in San Diego.

I am running the last ICS leak--the one that has the same build numbers as the one that HTC keeps saying is about to get pushed OTA.

And no, I can't find where to turn this on or off either.

EDIT -- Thanks for the updated post, I see it there in messages, too. When it went off, it wasn't obvious to me that it was a text message--it didn't display in the usual message interface.
