Anyone get Note 8 just to kill time till the real king arrives, LG V30!

While I'm pretty sure the V30 will be better in some areas than the Note 8, I personally don't think its a better overall phone than the Note 8. The V30 will have most likely have the better camera and sound(Quad-DAC)....oh and better placement of the fingerprint scanner and that's pretty much it. In terms of performance, display, battery life, functionality with the S-Pen, security, and features such as Samsung Pay, the Note 8 wins.

Same here, would be dumb to not take advantage of the $425 trade in. I had to endure the note 7 so this is the least they could do. I don't know why the guy above is laughing. Im the one laughing all the way to the bank. Ordered my tmobile JOD free, $0 down and will get a free $229 360 camera. Also ordered from Samsung and traded in a $70 iPhone 5 so got the Note 8 unlocked from them for essentially $610. Also comes with a free 360 camera. Can sell both cameras for about 300-350 combined. That leaves me with a brand new note 8 for less than $300. When the v30 comes out ill jump to that on tmobile and sell the unlocked Note 8 for $800 easy. that's a $500 profit for me when its all said and done.

Yeah that's too much work. I don't need money that bad.

Cant help but be disappointed in the Note 8. Sure it has 6gb instead of 4gb and an S Pen compared to the s8+, but im underwhelmed. At least as an S8+ owner. The smaller battery is also a turn off. I ordered on JOD anyway since its $0 down but im more hyped for the v30. First OLED phone display, great design, quad dac, dual screen. Anyone else killing time?

i thought it had 6GB?

V30 will have the better display. First phone with an OLED display. Also how does the note 8 win on performance when its gonna have identical specs to the v30 and LG uses a lighter android skin. Battery life? you mean the smaller 3300 MAH battery in a 6.3 inch screen? v30 will have the same 3300mah in a 6 inch screen.

yeah...but will it bootloop? Lol...C'mon man why come into the Note thread and flame like that?

I got the V20 thinking it would be a feasible stopgap between the note 7 and the S8. All I got was an overrated camera, a phone that was considerably more unwieldy than the Note 7, and horrible battery life. I couldn't wait to get rid of it when the S8 came out. The V30 won't even get a cursory glance from me.

I think you are right about the camera, it was/is overrated. Nothing to really love, except for the wide angle, which I used a few times.

Well the camera is the first with 1.6 aperture on a smartphone so it should be great. Also it is dual screen in the sense that the second display can be pulled out from underneath the status bar. lg g4 was a long time ago, the g6, v10, and v20 were all great phones.

Larger aperture but with smaller pixels like the G6 it won't be as good in low light as the S8/N8.

When Samsung has the best display almost every year, I doubt LG will surpass their AMOLED tech. Every year Samsung has better battery life as well, LG fans bragged about their removable batteries, well Samsung had good enough battery life they didn't need them. Performance should be nearly identical, but the Note gives an entirely different user experience, that I find better. Based on the rumors of the V30 camera set up, Samsung has the better camera as well.

V30 will be a good phone, better than most available IMO, but it won't be better than Samsungs Note at most things.

I don't know what it is about LG devices, but I've just never felt the slightest amount of interest in them. The closest to it was when I saw the dual screen thing on the V20. It was kinda cool because it was different, but I didn't really see an actual use for it. I have been interested in Motorola devices, HTC, the Pixels, and of course Samsung. But LG and Sony just never do it for me in the slightest. I can't imagine dumping the Note 8 for an LG. That to me would feel like selling a house to live in a cardboard box during winter time.

I'm not sure that OLED on a phone will be any better than the Samsung screen. I doubt they will push a higher resolution, and if they do it comes at the cost of battery life. Given the sizes of the screens, I doubt that there's much of a noticeable difference in quality.

At the end of the day, it's up to the individual on how they want to spend their hard earned money. V20 has been solid for me and I'm sure that the v30 will not disappoint. But I'm going back to the Note family.

LG screens seem to be of poor quality when it comes to how long they last. I sent my V20 in for warranty a month ago because the screen got screen retention. I'm typing this on my 2nd V20.

Why would I leave a Galaxy Note for an LG? LOL.

Nope, no LG for me, I am getting my Note8 and sticking with it until Note9 :)

I'm sure the LG V30 and even Huawei Mate 10 will be great, but I doubt they will match the Note8 in all the areas the Note8 will dominate (Camera, Display, General Productivity and Content Creation)

What do you mean the V30 will be the first phone with an OLED display? What do you think AMOLED is? There isn't any reason to believe that the LG P-OLED screen will beat the Samsung Super AMOLED. The last time LG used a P-OLED screen on a smartphone, it had burn-in problems. You have no idea if LG is using a lighter skin considering that the V30 will have a Samsung Experience copycat as a UI. The V30 is rumored to have a smaller battery than the Note8.

Samsung makes a better overall phone than LG. You get much more value with Samsung phones. Yes, the LG is a terrible auto shooter, shutter speed is too slow and there is blur in photos. But once you figure out how to use manual mode and increase shutter speed and ISO to compensate, the wide angle is a game changer. You can pull off stunning compositions that you just cannot do in a regular lens. It adds a whole another dimension to your photography.

LG phones also emphasize ergonomics and 'in hand' feel over gimmicky design. The G6 is such a nice and comfortable phone to hold and use in one hand. Every recent samsung has been a bar of soap and terribly stressful to use.

I have had the P6 which had the color / monochrome, have the Note 8 coming so I will try the zoom lens implementation of the dual lenses as well, but I am a believer that the wide angle is the truly useful philosophy of dual cameras and LG has nailed it.

All depends on what you want and need. For me the Note 8 is a good upgrade from my Note 4. I don't upgrade that often. I move about every 2 to 3 years. I use my SPen a lot on my phone. I have had good success with my last two Samsung phones. If I did not use an SPen I would have purchased the S8+. I also use my SD card a lot for media, so a Pixel is out. I liked a lot about the V20, but the LCD screen was a turn off. I like what I see in the Note 8, no upcoming phone will meet my needs like the Note 8. Cost wise not bad - buying through BestBuy - my cost will be about $30 more than i paid for my Note 4.

I just don't get what is disappointing on the phone. No phone is perfect. Even the Note 8 has a few negatives for me, I dislike the new aspect ratio, I wish it had a Quad DAC, removable batteries (but no phones are going to have this feature anymore) and higher internal storage options in the USA models. Still, I like what I see in the Note 8, should serve my needs for the next two years.

Gosh I feel like I just lost all my phone nerd cred. I've never bought a $1000 phone to tide me over for a month to buy another one lol
