Anyone get the updated Android Messages App with Web support?

Big changes like this roll out in waves. I would imagine that Google wants to see how it works with a few hundred thousand before flipping the switch for millions. All we can do is wait & be patient. We lived without web texting for this long.....what's a few more days?

I was lucky enough to be in the first wave. After initially setting it up, I made a Chrome bookmark and now I have my texting on my Windows 10 computer with a single click. It looks and works exactly like your phone. I really like it. It works flawlessly so it won't be long before everyone has it.

I wonder if a developer will find a way to implement this in a 3rd party app? All texting apps are accessing the sms database (or whatever its called) so there will have to be a way to trick your device into thinking that the device is good to go (even if it ran the Messages app as a 'background' service, etc)

You guys will love this... If you're running the Android 9 beta, you will NOT receive messages for web unless you roll back to Oreo. I just chatted with a Google rep, and she said "there is no support for beta channel." What a joke!!! I'm on Pixel 2 XL running Android 9 Beta 2

Well that explains why my Pixel XL hasn't gotten it.

I suspect they're worried it will mix up feedback and telemetry from the beta. It's important to lock the code on beta products and Beta 2 is locked. Messages isn't part of the core OS officially, but it uses core OS functionality. So if errors are generated because of this web functionality, it will be more difficult for them to ascertain whether this is due to the beta, or the Messages app update.

Now this ^^ is a hidden gem. Just signed up and it is even better than android for web. I prefer to use Message+ and I still get a web interface on my Chromebook!! Yippee!!!

Tosh. I was in the first wave of implementation and I am on Android P. So that is totally untrue. I got messages for web days ago.

I set up a second account on my Pixel 2 using my primary google account that has been on my device from the start, and I have messages for web available immediately. But on my admin account it will not show up, that makes no sense to me.

Just set up textto and the next second I get the web option in messages. I'm also running Android P so I can confirm you will get the update on the beta program.

I can confirm, too, now. I was just tinkering with Advanced settings toggles, and when I came back to the 3-dot menu, Messages for web was available, no notification or nothing.

I guess there's just no support for the Canary channel.

Correct. This thread is getting quite long, but if you start at the beginning you would see all the posts about the app update vs. the Google server side update. Google has to enable it for your account / device. That rollout is happening independently of the app update. All we can do is wait for Google to "flip the switch" on their end.

The option appeared in the last couple of days for me and the app is pretty good. The only issue I have is that it intermittently seemst to disconnect from my phone. Both Pulse (which is really good and probably worth the cost) and Textto (good find!) work fine even when Messages is being flaky.

Anyone else have random connection issues between the web app and Messages on the phone even when the phone is happily connected to WiFi?

I followed your lead and I now have the option. THANKS!

For those that don't have it, try it out. Settings --> Advanced --> Turn off Auto-download MMS. Go back and click the 3 dots. You can turn on auto-download once you have Messages For Web.

I looked over the website. It's 100% free. They are dedicating their servers and programming time for absolutely nothing. I have to ask myself, "what's the catch? Are 'you' really the product when you register?".
