Anyone get the updated Android Messages App with Web support?

Google needs to learn to keep their collective traps shut about these sorts of things until they’re ready to go all in with any updates.

I agree with you on this ... mostly. Google needs to be clear about how they do rollouts, and they are staggered more times then not. BUT also, people need to understand that when a rollout starts, that it is staggered and just because they don't have the update on day one doesn't mean anything is wrong.

When AC, or anyone in the tech press for that matter, publishes these assorted articles they make it sound like everyone should have everything on day one; and that's just not Google's process.

I agree, and do understand app update rollouts. I waited patiently for the app update. What I am confused about is why are some phones receiving the app update that has the new functionality...but the new option is not available? If there is a server side component to this, that Google has to control then that certainly was not made public.

I just updated my S8 and Pixel 2. The S8 doesn't have the Web option but the Pixel 2 does, which I kind of thought was interesting.

I feel like Charlie Brown collecting rocks at Halloween. My Messages app got updated to 3.3.044, but I still don't have a "Messages for web" option.

Same here, got the update this morning on my Pixel 2XL (Verizon, 8.1.0, June 5 security patch), but no option for the web

According to folks on the Google Play Help Forum there is a Google server side "switch" that has to be flipped for the option to appear in the app. I guess we just have to wait & see?

Same here. Would it matter if I am on Android P Beta?
From what they are saying on the Google Help Forum it doesn't matter what phone you have, or what Android version. They are saying there is the new app version and a Google server setting. They may not hit your phone at the same time?

Just got it with a "messages update". Works great and super convenient! I'm often on a PC and from my first few minutes it looks to be totally seamless with my Pixel 2

If you want this but don't already have it, just switch to WhatsApp, which has had this functionality for years.

I just got my software version updated this morning, and a few hours later, received the menu item. Now using it.

I'd like to have an always running Windows app.

With the tab open in your Chrome browser:

3 dot menu in the top right -> More Options -> Create Shortcut -> Rename to Android Messages (Leave Open as a Window Checked)

A link is created on your desktop. Pin it to your taskbar or copy it to your Startup Folder and you have an always open Windows 10 version of the "App"

I've done the same with WhatApp and Allo for a couple years now.

It's a server side switch, so Google pushes the flag update out to individual device IDs.

Yup ,,I have Android Messenger Web option on my Pixel 2 XL for awhile now , but still my OG Pixel doesn't have the option.......yet

Yeah ,,I have the same Messenger versions on both my Pixel 2 XL and my OG Pixel .
And the Pixel 2 XL got the option,,, came at the same time as the App update.

The OG pixel doesnt have the option, but is the same version of the app as on the Pixel 2 XL

I'm just curious, different G Mail accounts on each phone, or the same?

no, i updated to the current ,i dont see the messages for web??
That's what the last dozen or so posts have been about. We are not all getting the Messages for Web option at the same time as the app update. Apparently there is something else Google has to do on their end before you see the new option

Hi Folks:

Support for a web ui and usage from a computer of Google Messages was announced yesterday. While the web app is available, it requires that the app on the phone include a menu to select it.

In mine at least, Messages does not include this yet. I'm assuming they're doing a slow rollout of the upgrade for whatever reason. Just wondering if anyone has gotten it already.

Thanks

I got it yesterday.
