If you want the *best* camera on a smartphone, it's no longer the Pixel. Competition has surpassed it.
If you want the best camera on a $350/$500 phone, then the Pixel might be the best at those price ranges.

But yeah, QC seems to be an issue with Pixel phones, and you always see horror stories on Reddit about Google's support for people who have faulty devices. If you're concerned about reliability - Apple hands down is the best OEM. Best hardware QC, best support. Samsung would be 2nd.

I'm sure all that sort of stuff weighs into increasing numbers of Pixel users wanting to switch away from Pixel.
I'm curious on the stat that the ones that did leave pixels phones only to come back to it .

I read QC horror stories on just about every phone they make . Sure they are going to lemons on all makes of phones which includes iphones and samsungs. If you think there is one perfect flawless phone out there I would like to know about. Which I have owned those phones as well as the pixel.

I dont see the increasing number of users wanting to swich away from pixel line. So show me the stats by the figures that show that has increased ? Also the years of when they started to increase ? That's from a reliable source

Agreed. There is no perfect smart phone for everyone. It’s all about people’s wants and preferences. Price and features are both relative based on each person. The same goes for basically everything you buy. Some will say no one needs to spend more than $25k on a new car just because that’s what you paid for yours and you’re perfectly happy and satisfied with it. Name any material possession and you can apply that same mindset to it. Obviously this a phone discussion so I’m not trying to take us off topic but just something to think about.

Yup, couldn't have said it any better myself! To each their own! There's a perfect smartphone for every single type of person out there!

Considering Pixel phone sales don't seem to be good and were dropping year on year, I'd say not enough come back.

The flagships have flopped year on year, brand loyalty is dying so the only conclusion would be that less and less people come back to the Pixel brand.

The article in the OP has information about the poll they conducted asking users of various phone brands. Fact of he matter is that Pixel phone sales are declining, which means less return customers, let alone new ones.

The only Pixel phones that seem to be doing well (even though we don't have sales figures) are the Pixel 'a' line of phones - their budget phones which are pretty much on par with their flagship ones anyway.

But sure, you can just dismiss the data of you want.

Time will tell but I still think Google pixels are great phones , what do u think about the pix 6 coming ? You be interested?

Of course, I'm interested in all phones, but the Pixel 6 would have to be a monumental improvement over the Pixel 5 for me to consider it.

I'm getting the Galaxy S21 Ultra in Monday, so there's no way I'm going to go from that and downgrade to another mediocre, plastic phone with the same camera optics, mediocre processor, etc.

Yeah I think that article is click bait . I never heard of that website ever. So my opinion of your article is much different then yours . I only believe reliable websites that are well known which that one is not. The article you linked is clearly pro apple so that in itself is being bias.

I don't agree with the flopped year after year statement you made. So we agree to disagree on that and you still have not proved your point from the article you linked in the OP. Your using that one article alone to make your case sounds like to me.
Show me proof not enough come back ?

I can make the same opinion about samsung since I have had 2 and they are not the brand for me . But whatever phones people choose is all up to them. Everyone has different likes and dislikes about phones. Just because you like or dislike a certain phone does not mean others will to. I like and use more then one make of phone.

I think I'm beginning to understand why you're not a Pixel fan. The S21 Ultra is state of the art and Pixels are not. These two phones are targeted to different users and the pricing reflects that. It's unlikely that Google will target the high end again. They're making quality mid-range phones. They nailed it with the 'a' series and mostly hit it with the P5.

Probably not really on topic, but as silly as it seems the one feature I find myself using constantly and don't really see too much mention of is the ability to select text from the recents/multitasking screen(whatever it's called). I find it especially handy when wanting to copy select text from apps where you can't select just one word and can only select the entire post (say social media apps), copy phone numbers/email addresses, etc. Heck, sometimes you even get an option to get a definition for a selected word!

I find this SUPER handy and thought it was a native Android feature but I wasn't able to do this when I had the Note 10+ (not sure if it was possible and I couldn't figure it out or if this is a Pixel exclusive??). But with all the Note had to offer, not being able to do this one little thing drove me nuts! Sure I could whip out the SPen and try and select the text, extract it and then copy/paste it where I wanted but it was clunky and time consuming (and often the text extracted was wrong).

It's little, useful, features like this and the phone app's ability to screen calls and it's hold for me option (as well as other features I can't think of at the moment) that I love about Pixel phones that you rarely see mentioned in reviews but are game changers, IMO.

Google don't release sales numbers so we don't know how many customers come back, however the Pixel 4 line was discontinued less than a year after its release, so we can infer it sold so poorly that Google didn't bother getting more manufactured.

On the flip side, if you're suggesting the flagship Pixel phones sell exceptionally well and sales are growing, I'd love to see some support for that as I'm sure it'd surprise everyone. From my understanding, the only Pixel phones that sell decently are the Pixel a line of phones.

You can dismiss what you want (though your reasoning is faulty - you can't just dismiss data because you don't like what it says. You dismiss data in the presence of counter-data), but the article in the OP has been cited in 9to5Google, so seems like they trusted the story enough to post it - and they're certainly not an Apple fan site.

You like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra? LOL. With that rack of 5 camera lenses plus the flash aperture on the back, it looks like Clark Griswold's Family Truckster Station Wagon, with its ludicrous array of 8 headlights and a forest of artificial wood-grained paneling plastered along the sides. If you like paying twice as much for something that performs the same functions less smoothly, have at it. I bought my Pixel 5 for $500 and wouldn't trade it straight up for one of those spec-heavy Samsungs that does nothing better except, apparently, give the owner some kind of curious obsession with criticizing Pixel phones.

Well I'm getting it on Monday so I haven't used it yet. And I paid $519 USD for it, so certainly didn't pay twice the amount of the Pixel phones.

I mean if you think Samsung phones function less smoothly, I don't think you've used one in a long while. The One UI is a huge improvement, even over Pixels UI (I mean android adopts features that have been in Samsung phones for years). Add to that, from the leaks, it looks like the next version of Android will looks more similar to One UI than ever.

So yeah much faster processor, better/faster screen, more ram, more/better cameras, more functional UI and gorgeous build/design with premium materials, 4 year software support vs 3 for Pixel - sounds pretty good to me. Would love if Google did that in a phone.

Now that Google are getting rid of unlimited photo/video back up at high quality for future Pixel phones, I'm really scratching my head as to try to think what advantage a Pixel has over it's competition. It's been surpassed in every metric - most notably the camera, where the Pixel had the best cameras on the market for years, but they got complacent, didn't change the hardware, processing stayed the same so the images stayed the same and the completion just blew past it.

The only thing I have mentioned is your comments is your saying how bad the pixel is and flopped year after year as you say. I have a right to disagree what you posted, and my thoughts about the links you post.

To to say my reasoning is faulty is getting to be personal and judgemental. Because I disagree with your view and you with me to disagree is fine. Has nothing to do with what I like or don't like . The OP survey you posted involved 405 users

More features doesn’t mean it’s for everyone or that it’s necessarily better. Some people don’t need to have everything in a smartphone. Nor can everyone justify it so easily. I can never see a time where I would need to have a folding phone but I’m not going to criticize someone else’s belief that they got the best phone for them. I also don’t have a need or desire for a tablet. But I remember a few years ago not really seeing a need for a smart watch. But since the prices have come down and they are more mainstream and they give me an opportunity to check my notifications more quickly or answer or deny phone calls, I now have one. Not the top of the line, but one that does what I need it to do. But I’m not criticizing people who buy an Apple Watch or Galaxy watch.

must say, very well said! Agree with everything. I find the concept of foldable phones intriguing, but number 1 too expensive. Number two I have a laptop I don’t need a folding phone yet. But there is a phone for everyone out there that is for sure.

S21 is a excellent phone no question, I love their telescope technology which Is the best out there no phone at the moment has , well besides Huawei. There going be some version of a manufacturer people going skip because something they didn't like or features left out or even not enough improvement. The thing is the Google pixel is very good device just because you didn't like a version that came out doesn't mean they suck , I've own many Samsung, pixels through the years and yes I might skip one of their versions because something I didn't like or felt i needed but doesn't mean I'm going to talk bad about them , pixels are not for everyone but neither is Samsung or other manufacturers.

You need to try a very low end device and come back and say hey that screen was horrible, the performance on it was unbearable , I have and pixels are very very very far from that. In the end your not going change my mind about pixels and I'm not going change yours , your going buy what you like and I'm going buy what I like so bashing pixels or any manufacturer is pointless. Samsung sells many devices but it's their midrange that sells the most and same for pixels and probably on iPhones or other main manufacturers.

I'd be more than extremely surprised if you paid this price without a trade in and/or carrier service credit. The going price on amazon is $999. You are not really making a case against the P5 when you compare it to another phone that is at least 40% more expensive.

Excellent perspective. I really hope we still continue to have competition in the market of cellphones so Samsung and Apple aren’t the only two options we have for quality. As much as I didn’t like LG, it’s a shame that they are supposedly getting out of the smartphone industry. That’s what I’ve heard. I don’t have any news stories to support it. But they clearly aren’t close to competing toe to toe with Samsung and Apple as far as units sold. They did have a solid performer in the V series phones. They were also the last phone to have a headphone jack which paired with their dac, made for a solid high quality music device.
