[CDMA HERO ROM] Gumbo 2.1

I am beyond confused at the moment. I have been running Gumbo 2.1 for two days and loving it. The login thing was getting annoying and I saw the update so I installed it. After that I did not need to log in again. A little while later I installed quickboot and pushed teeter and quickoffice. At the reboot it frooze and after a couple more tries it was still freezing.

So I flashed Gumbo again and it booted fine and I did not have to login. Guess I should have stopped there, but I installed the update again just in case it was needed. Now I have to login everytime and no matter what I try that is the case. I have tried flashing Gumbo again and the update and nothing works.

Any ideas?

As far as i know the update fix just patch"s it so we can see the protected apps in market and so we can send mms. For the having to sign in thing, Gb still working on that.

Oh, I guess I just misunderstood. I saw it said that the only thing not working now was "Camera" and I was thinking it was taken care of. I guess I was just lucky for a few boots.

Yeah. I've had periods where I could reboot 5-6 times in a row. The next 3 I have to log in again. It's seemingly random, aside from one thing: I've noticed that MOST of the time when I have it off the USB cable it goes right in and the login thing isn't an issue.

Probably coincidence though.

LWP in Home

Everything u should need to do to get live wallpapers to work in home:
(I pushed all of these files via freshs kitchen without any problem)

The two build.props, push those to /system
The two .libs push those to /system/lib
The two .apks push those to /system/app

Download Home Switcher in the market (its free) and launch home.
(while in the market download some live wallpapers)
Now set your wallpaper.

note: none of the Nexus LWP work at this time so they were not included
Some of the LWP from market will freeze and crash and you will need to do a battery pull or wait for the phone to unfreeze.
Download and try at your own risk
Nandroid back up if you feel the need.
Download:
lwp.rar

4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download wired_tether_1_2.apk

Install this like a regular apk and mess around. It starts, sets up dnsmasq just fine (according to the app), by my Laptop isn't seeing it running Slackware

Start app and start the tether BEFORE you plug it in (according to the developer)

I messed around with it for awhile but couldn't get it to work. Tried Easy tether lite from the market and it worked. Should be (hopefully) uploading a stock theme but instead of green/black making it blue/black.

One thing I've noticed running this. Every once in while when I hit the home key it asks me to choose Home or Sense. Even if I pick use as default, it will still asks me the next couple of times. Other than that it seems to be working well for a work in progress. :)

This has happened on numerous roms for me, and it happens randomly; I haven't tried this one yet to see if it happens. This issue also happens on my parent's Droid Eris, running the stock rom, unrooted. Seems to be an HTC bug more than anything else.

Guys and Gals -

First off, I had a read through and I'm glad for you all that it looks like you might get a working camera with the 2.1 leak. Congratulations to whomever figured it out.

Now on to the not so good news. This morning I received an email from the developer of a popular market application. It seems that someone has put out a ROM full of stolen software, and associated my name with it, as they took the boot image from one of my ROMS and called it their own. This developer and I have squared things away, so no harm no foul on my end.

It does leave me in a dilemma. Rather than have my name tossed in to a mix like this again, I've decided that I'm finished developing for the Hero. Enjoy the work, I won't take it down, and if I can get Google Earth and Nexus one wallpapers working a bit better (yes I have it loading and running, but it locks the system up after 30 seconds or so) I'll pass that fix to the few people here who have helped out so that they can package it up in any way they like.

The person responsible (and I won't name names - they know who they are, and the work they put out with my name attached isn't hard to find) has really soured me. I have been an open source developer for almost 20 years, and am very happy that the carrier I use for cellular service finally released a (mostly) open source operating system for me to play with. The way I see it this leaves me with two choices:

1. - Stop releasing work that others can use in any way they like
2. - Stop developing altogether for the Hero.

I chose number 2. There is already enough closed development and a "I'm first" mindset. That also goes against everything I believe in, so it's not an option. Bundling my name with software piracy and IP theft is not an option either. I will not let this happen again.

Keep the flames and ignorant comments to yourself please. I've thought about this all day, and this is my decision. I'll always be available to help others in any way I can, but I won't be publishing any more work. Rather then wasting time and energy to tell me how wrong I am, please use that effort to congratulate the individual who has placed me in this position. Sorry, but it is what it is.

Jerry.

Aw damn it, friggin selfish ignorants crapping it for the rest of us... Gb, I respect your decision. Thanks for all the releases and the support for us noobs. You will be missed.

Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that.
I was planning on holding off for your version of the 2.1 rom. Of all the roms and kernels I've tried, your work has by far been the finest and most consistent. I don't think there is a rom out there that does not use your custom memory killer kernel.
I can understand why you've made that decision though. All I can say is thanks for the work you've done so far, and good luck with whatever you do next.
It was because of you that I could stand to use and actually enjoy my 1.5 sprint hero.

Unbelievable. Here someone like you works their ass off and some f**ktard goes and throws it all away because he/she's a moron. Love it. It's people like that who keep the close source business (MS/APPLE/ETC) going. So congratulations whoever you are. You've just caused one of the best Hero devs to quit. I hope you're fu**ing happy with yourself.

To gbhil: I've only been using the Android OS a few weeks, but I've already come to rely on kernels you've written and your expertise. You will be sorely missed as a developer. People don't realize just how hard you folks work to create art..yes art. I want you to know I understand. I hope you'll change your mind, but it's understandable if you don't. In this new world of online plenty, reputations are easily made and broken. I can't fault you for not wanting your reputation destroyed because of the acts of one moronic *******.

wow. Not what I expected. Thanks for the support guys. And remember - there's no reason anyone can't pick up where I left off. It's really not as difficult as it seems, and I'm always open to share ideas and suggestions.

If you expected people here to give you a hard time about deciding to stop, I guess you were disappointed. :) MOST of the people who use your work appreciate what you've done. You won't get crap from us, you'll get the respect that's due.
