[EI22][GINGERBREAD] Gingerbread " Bug Thread "

On a different topic, does anyone else with multiple Google accounts who has Market notifications turned on see multiple notifications of available updates (1 per Google account)? I know Froyo didn't do this. Is there any way to get notifications once, and not multiple times? No matter how many Google accounts I connect, I only have 1 phone and apps only need to be updated once, not once per Google account. This is weird behavior to me, and I'd like to know if it can be fixed. Thanks.

I had this same issue. I fixed it by doing a factory reset and reinstalling everything. When I setup my google account I did my main account first and setup my main account to sync my mail, calender and contacts. Then setup my 2nd account. I synced only my mail. I haven't had the duplicate update notifications again.

Gingerbread broke my bluetooth.

I used my phone with my Kenwood KDC-X994 receiver in the car. I've always had an issue with the receiver erroring while downloading my somewhat large contact list upon each connection. However, I've been able to work around this by simply denying the authorization request on my phone each time the devices connect. The phonebook isn't downloaded, but I could stream media and make/receive calls just fine.

Gingerbread seems to have removed this authorization request. I no longer receive it when the devices connect. The receiver automatically begins downloading the phone book and eventually throws an error that prevents anything from working. The only way I've been able to get around this is to completely disable the receiver from using the phone as a phone. It can connect to the phone as a media streaming device, which brings us to my next problem.

Since Gingerbread, my phone and receiver will not auto-connect. They show as paired, but not connected. I have to manually go into either the phone or the receiver and initiate a connection every single time I get into the car.

Thanks for the info. But considering I had to factory reset the phone to get it out of some type of reboot loop when I was manually updating to Gingerbread, I don't really want to wipe it again just for this. I check for updates through AppBrain regularly enough already, that I can just turn off the Market notifications. It's not a terribly big deal, but I was wondering if others had it and if there was an easy fix for it. If there's no easy fix besides wiping the phone clean, I'll just leave notifications off.

Stock Epic 4G Sprint Update to Gingerbread - Can't move apps to SD Card. LED Indicator stopped working for most of the day. (Lookout DOES NOT BACKUP CONTACTS!!!!)

Sprint automatically updated my phone this morning and my indicator light stopped working so I foolishly did a factory reset. My phone had gotten a bit slow so I thought it was a good time to do it. I backup up the SD card to my PC and use both McAfee Wave Secure and Lookout to backup my data. Here's what I found out:

1. Factory reset also wipes out the SD card despite what some websites say.

2. After unsuccessful attempt to get my LED light working by using Android Market apps, it just started working by itself about 15 minutes ago. @#*!

3. I can't use Norton anymore to move apps to SD card. It moves them to "USB" but nothing goes on the card. Hopefully Sprint will eventuall fix it like they did the LED indicator light.

4. LOOKOUT @#*$&. They claim to backup your phone contacts but only backup your google contacts. You have to synch your phone with Google. Who the @#* does that??? Dishonest slimeballs. Lookout has some neat features but NO REAL BACKUP.

5. Fortunately, being a nerd, I also use McAfee Wave Secure. All my contacts are safe and secure.

6. The new Swype Keyboard auto fill is pretty annoying when it replaces the word you are typing WITH SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Did Google pickup the Microsoft programmers that screwed up MSOffice? They made it "better" the "Microsoft" way.

SDCARDS do not get wiped by a factory reset. Your pictures, music, videos, 3rd party ringtones, wallpapers stored on there remain fine.

If anything you might be referring to any apps you have moved to sdcard, well those may have not necessarily gotten removed but the "link" to them and the little bit of each app that is left in the internal memory was "broken" by the wipe. If you were to pull your sdcard you would find everything should still remain after a factory reset.

Thanks for your quick reply. That's what I thought but the 14gb SD card read 0gb after the factory reset and all music, pics, etc. were gone from the card. Confirmed this by using Norton. No worries though. Just wasted a good part of the day putting stuff back. At least I was able to clean out the phone. It looks like my resinstalled apps have been moved to the SD card. For some reason Norton show "Move to USB" rather than "Move to SD Card". New pics and music are being transferred to the SD card successfully.

Anyway, on the Sprint community forum, there's a lot of ranting about a whole legion of woes resulting from this update. I consider myself lucky. A bit of forced housecleaning. My LED indicator light is now back to normal. The Handcent LED app does not appear to work on Gingerbread Epic 4G's. I never tried it on Froyo so maybe its a platform issue.

The main thing is I wanted to warn all LOOKOUT users that their phone contacts are NOT backed up if they didn't synch their phone with Google. McAfee Wave Secure saved my bacon. I made the mistake of synching with Google after the fact with Skype and now my contacts are doubled up in my phone. @#&*!

I see that you use a Nexus. I'm guessing that the unique stuff Samsung put in the Epic 4G (keyboard, Samsung stuff, etc.) may be messing stuff up. I'm sure that was one of the reasons for the long delay for the update. Too bad they still had a buggy update. The Sprint Epic 4G forum at the Sprint community website is not pretty.

good luck getting help with your bluetooth questions here. I've stopped trying to connect with my car. I'm just going to use my upgrade this weekend the update has spoiled the epic 4 me.

Very strange, something else must have gone on to erase your sdcard. I did dozens and dozens of factory resets when I had my Epic 4g and never once lost a thing on my sdcard. It has always been considered a safe spot because its not in the coding to touch the sdcard during a factory reset/wipe. I see your using Norton and other apps, these could very well be part of the problem with you losing data. Nortons and other virus scanning apps on mobile devices have never had a good reputation. They have been noted to do more damage or mess with a system setup than good.

Also the Move to SDCARD has been renamed Move to USB.

Yes I am now running the Nexus S4G. I was a happy, proud 9-10 month user of an Epic 4g. I learned everything I know on it, developed a ROM & a bunch of themes and flashed the heck out of that device back and forth.

I agree the Sprint community website is a mess... I'm sure the physical keyboard and some other aspects were a big reason for the delay in getting official GB out.

Sorry to see you go 1rtwan. Any idea what device you are planning on moving to?

Does anyone know how to take the key click sounds off when using the onscreen keyboard? It was an option on Froyo before updating to GB

Something that I've noticed: During a call, I can no longer use the pull-down notification. For instance, if I'm on a call and I get a text message, I can't simply swipe down to check it. I literally have to hit the home key to back out of the calling app in order to access the pull-down notification bar. Any one else experience this? And is there a fix? Thanks guys...

Update: Stock Epic 4G Gingerbread Update

My LED indicator lights are no longer working after working intermittently late last night. Very odd. Other than that, phone appears to be working normally (the usual number of force closes and delayed responses). I'm using the "No LED" application for the Galaxy S's without LED's and that is getting me by with the necessary vibrate and visual notices for incoming calls, email, SMS, etc.

Ok. There are two ways to turn off the sounds to the keyboard.
Settings/sound/uncheck audible touch tones or
Settings/sound/volume/ slide system volume all the way to the left. Both ways work for my phone.

Since manual install GB went so badly, and factory reset didn't help, I went to the Sprint store, and they reinstalled GB. They were a little cagey about whether it was the same as the OTA version, but wifi works now, and the sdcard is no longer hot enough to melt the tabs off my snap-on case. Bad news: still have noisy camera shutter, no tethering, and worse, cannot access sd card via computer USB. So much for using Klink to tether, either. Made a 2d trip to Sprint store, and they agree USB syncing is gone. They say it's not a reported bug, and the only fix is to order a replacement and see if it ships with Froyo instead.

Thats good well at least you had your issues resolved. Unfortunately I think the Sprint people were just pulling for answers from nowhere on the OTA/manual update issue.

I have watched personally via log cat on my device when we received the Froyo EC05 OTA update back months ago.. Same place as the OTA update comes from is the same link we use for the manual update. So I know its the same, just for whatever reason the initial install of GB on your device didn't gel the right way.

Thanks, Paul627g! I'd still like to get back to the functionality I had on Froyo. Since there's no way for my pc and phone to connect directly, I wasn't able to use the reset method you suggested. Have tried to connect on both Win7 and Unbuntu Oneric. The Sprint tech agrees something about EI22 is preventing it. I'll look around to see about a no-pc root that people have used since EI22. (Will click a proper "thanks" when I get to my desk) -Deborah
